‘Gutted' Dancing on Ice star bursts into tears after being eliminated from ITV series

Independent27-01-2025

Ferne McCann broke down in tears after becoming the second celebrity to be eliminated from this year's season of Dancing on Ice.
The former The Only Way is Essex (TOWIE) star, 34, performed a Trolls -themed routine to 'September' by Earth, Wind and Fire with her professional skating partner Brendyn Hatfield.
McCann and Hatfield scored 28 points for the choreography, based on the Dreamworks musical animation, which included a move in which the reality star sat down in a chair position while skating.
Many Dancing on Ice fans presumed there would be no elimination in week three as comedian Josh Jones withdrew from the competition after sustaining an injury in rehearsals on Sunday (26 January).
However, presenter Holly Willoughby confirmed a contestant would still be axed from the series despite Jones' withdrawal.
'Tonight, there are no second chances,' she said. 'The lowest placed couple will go straight out [of] the competition with no skate-off to save them.'
When it was revealed McCann would be leaving the competition, the TOWIE star tearfully said: 'So gutted, but it is what it is. It's been amazing. Thank you so so much. It's just been brilliant. So fantastic.'
The reality star's partner added: 'We've had just the best time skating together and learning and growing, and she had so much more in her.'
McCann was far from the bottom of the leaderboard, with EastEnders star Charlie Brooks, sitting below her with 27 points for her Ghost -themed routine and Olympic rower Steve Redgrave securing just 20 points.
Viewers quickly took to social media to express their dissatisfaction over McCann's 'unfair' elimination with no skate off, despite being middle of the leaderboard.
'It's a stupid and unfair idea not to have a skate off,' one person complained. 'I don't know who thought of it.'
Meanwhile, another viewer added: 'Hate there's no skate off. Makes it just a popularity contest and not much about skill. Shame.'
Another baffled fan wrote: 'Don't understand dropping the skate off - it's madness. Ferne didn't deserve to go at all!'
Dancing on Ice announced Josh Jones had withdrawn from the competition in a statement released on the show's social media accounts on Sunday night – just hours before the live show was due to air.
'Josh Jones sustained an injury during rehearsals and has had to withdraw from Dancing on Ice,' it read.
'Josh and Tippy's partnership will be greatly missed. We will be helping to support Josh and wish him well with his recovery.'

So social media has broken even Elon Musk. I'm forced to ask: U OK hun?

Did you see Elon Musk apologise for some tweets this week? (Please don't be naff and call them 'X posts'.) Like me, you will be so embarrassed for Earth's primo edgelord that he feels pressed into doing something so excruciatingly conventional. This is worse than when Kate Moss was scapegoated into rehab. Imagine owning the world's premier shitposting platform – in fact, having spent $44bn (£32bn) on it, specifically so that your magic mirror would tell you each day that you were the fairest shitposter of all – and then shuffling sheepishly on to your own pixels to mumble something about having gone 'too far' with your hurty words. Buck up, sadsack – honestly. We'll come in a minute to how this hilariously preposterous spectacle should surely mark the absurdist endpoint of humankind's intensely brief, intensely passionate, and intensely destructive relationship with social media. But first, a recap. Elon's apology, of course, related to last week's spectacular online beef that he'd started with US president Donald Trump over the latter's OBBB. (Sounds like a specialist Pornhub search term; actually stands for One Big Beautiful Bill.) Amusingly, the two men were not able to directly confront each other, each feeling that they could only engage on their own platforms – X in Musk's case, Truth Social in Trump's. Going forward, we surely need some proxy platforms these two superpowers can fight on, like the proxy war countries of the cold war. Maybe Threads and Bluesky could play the role of Vietnam and Nicaragua? After all, I'm sure these two will do battle – covert or otherwise – once more. The path to war had been set the second they became buddies, despite the Maga crowd's comic refusal to see the inevitable. It was only a few months ago that Fox News bobblehead Sean Hannity did a fawning joint chat with the pair, telling them and his viewers: 'I feel like I'm interviewing two brothers here.' Yep. Caned and unstAbel. (Completely unrelated, but in 2019, polling found that 13% of Americans still believe that men are 'better suited emotionally for politics than most women'. Could the poll be rerun in light of new information?) And it was only a few months earlier that Musk was explaining to a rally crowd: 'I'm not just Maga, I'm dark gothic Maga.' Mm-hm. Anyway, in this battle, Elon ended up getting resoundingly beaten by the final boss of posting. As we know from the fact that Musk tuned up to his first day at Twitter carrying a sink and honking 'let that sink in', this is a guy who just loves a crashingly literal joke. So it's a shame the president was too busy playing golf to turn up at Elon's Texas babymother compound with some latex buttocks, an elated wink to camera, and the words: 'I handed him his ass!' Maybe next time. This week was all about the apology, which should be a defining moment in man's – and woman's – understanding of precisely the pitfalls of being extremely online. It's extraordinary to think that social media didn't meaningfully exist 20 years ago, but has – in that very short span – now hurtled toward the spectacle of the world's richest man functioning as a warning about what can happen to anyone if they spend way too much time on it. The man who literally owns X has been hoist by his own platform. Guys, no one is safe! How much more wake-up do we want our calls to be? For a long while back there, it was fashionable to refer to the particular disorder engendered by excessive Twitter use as brainworms. Elon Musk is surely riddled with them. Intriguingly, despite essentially running the free world from the platform during his first term in office, Trump himself has remained weirdly resistant to the brainworms. If anything, his particular arrangement reminds one of that old Private Eye headline when Rupert Murdoch had some prostate bother a few decades ago: 'Cancer has Murdoch'. And so with Trump and the brainworms. Brainworms have Trump. Maybe Trump IS the brainworms? Sadly for Musk, he didn't have the same mysteriously resistant gene. He loved Twitter so much he bought the company – for a price that was the sort of joke someone might make on Twitter – and it actually seemed to get him what he wanted for a time: a president who was buddies with him, a more-than-fair wind for all his government contracts, and every one of his posts liked by bazillions of followers who absolutely weren't mostly bots. It might have lost money in and of itself, but seemed like a super-successful and lucrative political project when considered in the round, given his other business interests. But this is what spending too much time on social media does to you! It makes you feel like you're being productive, and important, and 'not complicit' in whatever you've just farted out a couple of hundred characters on. But – and spoiler alert for anyone still unaware of the import of watching Musk deliver his equivalent of the Notes app apology meme – this is all an illusion. Spending lots of time and energy on social media platforms simply means you work for the guys who own them. For free. Whether this week's cautionary tale starring one of those very guys will shake humanity out of its potentially fatal attention spiral is, regrettably, doubtful in the extreme. But after watching Musk act like someone tearfully trying to de-cancel themself, no one can say the message of the spectacle was anything less than sledgehammer: delete your account, sir. Bikini-clad Amy Childs hits back at trolls over extreme weight loss as she admits she needs to 'learn to love' herself again

Amy Childs has hit back at cruel internet trolls who have sent her hurtful comments over her recent weight loss. The TOWIE star, 34, has sparked concern with her new slimmed-down appearance after dropping an incredible two stone. But Amy admitted some of the 'awful' comments she has received about her looks have got to her and she knows she needs to put back on some weight. Taking to Instagram, she wrote: 'I wasn't going to post this, as I have been having such awful comments about my weight… 'I just want to come away be happy and feel amazing, I need to learn to love myself again, I have a long way to go and I definitely need to put on some weight but I will get there ♥️ positive vibes please.' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the Daily Mail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Alongside the note, Amy shared a video of herself in a brown bikini as she displayed her slimmed down frame. The star posed on a balcony in Portugal where she has been filming the latest series of TOWIE with her co-stars. Last month she revealed the real reason behind her extreme weight loss after calling off her wedding to her fiancé Billy Delbosq. Addressing the weight loss and cruel trolling she's received as a result of the weight loss in an emotional interview with OK! Magazine she said: 'I'm going through so much at the minute that the weight has fallen off me. 'I worry about my mum constantly. She's very emotional – she thinks she's going to have another heart attack.' 'People think I'm not eating, but I do eat. To be honest, I do feel better when I'm a bit heavier than I am at the moment. There's so much going on at the minute – it's the result of pure stress. We're also having renovations done in the midst of parenting four kids.' Amy added: 'But I'm strong, I've been in this industry for 15 years. I've had lots of people concerned about me, which I completely understand, but yes, people can be so quick to judge.' Amy also explained how she once tried using weight-loss injections 18 months ago, but it made her 'so ill she threw up three or four times'. Amy wrote: 'I wasn't going to post this, as I have been having such awful comments about my weight' Amy has recently shed two stone and also admitted to trying weight loss jabs 18 months ago (pictured in April 2024) Amy also recently called off her wedding to her fiancé Billy after a stressful period dealing with her mother's ill health and her own extreme weight loss. The reality star, who is said to be 'gutted' over the decision, has reportedly decided to cancel their impending nuptials to focus on her personal life. It was previously claimed that Amy's 'perfect' day was under threat and it has now been reported by Closer magazine that the day is totally off for now. According to the publication, the plans have been pushed back due to 'last minute changes', after she first delayed the wedding in 2023. An insider said: 'Amy has had to cancel her wedding and she's absolutely gutted. There was going to be a show around it, following the run-up to their big day.. 'But they've had to make some last-minute changes based on what's going on in their lives.'

Dancing On Ice pro Alex Murphy sobs as she reveals ‘hellish' fertility journey & shares incident that made her suicidal

DANCING On Ice pro Alex Murphy has broken down in tears after sharing her "hellish" fertility battle. The 37-year-old and husband Paul Klein, aka one half of YouTuber duo Woody & Kleiny, have been trying to conceive for two years. And while they've undergone numerous tests to find out why they haven't been successful, they ended up finding "nothing" - which Alex said is almost worse than finding something that can be fixed. 6 6 She appeared on Amy Hart's Mum's Club podcast earlier this month talking about their attempts to fall pregnant, as she said: "It wasn't a thing to me that I would have a time limit, but then when you start trying to conceive, all of a sudden everybody talks about the time limit, and you're like 'Oh my God'. "We started trying when I was 35, I hit 37 and I wanted to drive my car off a cliff." Alex added she feels "embarrassed" that her "body's not working", but still has "so much faith it's going to happen". She then further opened up in a video on her TikTok page, sobbing as she recalled an incident that had "derailed" her entire day. "I walk into town and this woman, who meant no harm by this in any way, shape, or form, comes up to me and she's like, 'Alex, so good to see you, how are you?'," she said. "She gives me a hug, goes, 'Haven't seen you in a while', grabs my belly, touches my stomach, and goes, ' No babies yet?' "If I can give anyone a piece of advice, I don't care if you're a mum or a daughter or a granddaughter or a sister, do not go up to someone and talk about pregnancy. "I don't care if they look nine months pregnant, don't talk to them about their pregnancy. "Do not ever ask them if they're pregnant, do not ever ask them why there's no babies, don't ever ask them anything. A Miracle Baby Story "Shut up and don't say anything." Alex said she had to sit there and grit her teeth as she said "No, none yet". "I am going through torture with my husband at this point, we are going through hell," she continued. "And this is the stuff that happens to me on a weekly basis - this is why I couldn't get away with hiding it from people anymore. "This is why, I would never go up to someone and touch their stomach." And while she insisted she knows the woman "meant nothing by it", she couldn't help get upset by her comment. Why being the child-free friend isn't as easy as everyone thinks By Josie Griffiths, deputy digital Fabulous editor. Josie Griffiths said: We get it, having kids is exhausting. And yes, there are loads of benefits to not having them - weekend lie-ins, more disposable income, freedom to make your holidays all about you - which trust me I am aware of. But as all your friends and family members start becoming parents, the truth is it's not THAT easy being the one who hasn't taken the plunge. My girlfriends regularly tell me how their annual leaving is clogged up by parents calling first dibs on the entire summer, or fret that close mates won't come to their wedding now they're parents. It's not unfounded either, we had five friends, including one my husband was best man for before he started a family, drop out of our wedding citing sick kids and other child-related issues. The truth is that once people have babies, life becomes all about them. And while those babies are of course lovely and we dedicate many weekends to visiting them, there is sometimes a gnawing thought in the back of my mind, that we have become second-class citizens. Not only are you the one constantly expected to adapt and evolve to children's nap times and swimming lessons, but the things you care most about suddenly become 'frivolous', met with an eye roll and a 'must be nice'. As someone who really wants children myself, I hope this is a short-term pain, but if we experienced any sort of fertility issues I know this would be made 100 times harder. I have friends who are in that position, and my heart breaks for them. And I also have female friends who've decided not to have children, for very well-considered and thought out reasons, who shouldn't ever be made to feel like their lives aren't as important as anyone else's. When it comes to people who are child-free by choice, we all need to learn to celebrate their wins more - whether it's renting their own flat on one income, getting the promotion, or taking a sabbatical to travel the world. But there are downsides too, they're just whispered over glasses of wine in restaurants and shared in private WhatsApp chats, instead of being plastered all over social media. "Don't touch someone, don't ever touch their stomach, don't ever insinuate anything about getting pregnant, don't ever insinuate anything about babies," she said. "She has fully derailed my entire day. "I was having a really good day, I was feeling really good and really positive about everything, we had gotten some hope, we had a really good call with the doctor last night, and that has derailed my entire f**king afternoon. "And now I have to go home and pull my s**t together again and ultimately just try not to think about this because I'm tired." Alex admitted she's felt like she needed to share their fertility struggle publicly, because if she doesn't she's "going to completely combust". "And if one more person comes up to me and touches my stomach, I'm going to slap them," she sighed. "And that's not like me. I'm not aggressive. "I'm trying my best to keep my s**t together as best I can. "But the thing with being in the public eye, people thinking they're entitled to knowing you and that I can't deal with anymore. "So it's out in the open. "We are struggling. We have some hope but my whole f**king afternoon is ruined because of this now. "It's literally ruined my whole afternoon and now I have to sit here and cry in my car and try to get my s**t together and not feel like I want to drive my car off a f**king cliff." She concluded by begging: "Please be better to the people around you. Please be better. "Be more cognitive. Be more aware and never touch somebody's stomach - whether they're pregnant or not." She added in the video caption: "Ladies, we have to do better. This is about the 10th time this has happened to me in the public with someone coming up to me and touching me and openly talking about this as if they have any right to know. "Now I know this wasn't done with any bad intent, but it has got to stop." "Aww Alex, this is heartbreaking to watch," one person wrote in the comments section. "I can't believe someone, anyone, thinks that's ok to say to anyone." "That is not acceptable on any level…. some people are just insensitive, please don't let one person ruin your day," another said. "I felt every word of this," a third admitted. "I get this from family and friends regularly, despite them knowing my struggles." 6 6
