Sarawak collects RM4.3bil in first four months, eyes full-year target of RM14.2bil

KUCHING: Sarawak collected RM4.3 billion in revenue in the first four months of the year, or 30 per cent of its projected annual revenue of RM14.2 billion, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah told the State Legislative Assembly today.
He said the state sales tax contributed RM1.76 billion of the total, while cash compensation in lieu of oil and gas rights accounted for RM1.17 billion.
"A sum of RM608 million was derived from investment dividends, RM229 million from raw water royalty, and RM250 million from interest income," said Uggah, who is also the Second Minister of Finance and New Economy, during his winding-up speech in the State Assembly.
He added that RM65 million came from forestry receipts, RM59 million from land premiums, RM25 million from federal grants and reimbursements, and RM137 million from land rent, mining royalties, and water sales.
Uggah also told the assembly that the state sales tax on oil and gas has contributed a total of RM21.38 billion to the state coffers since 2019.
He said the sales tax on oil and gas remains the major contributor to the overall state revenue.
However, he said that given the challenging economic environment and ongoing geopolitical issues affecting global oil and gas markets, the state government anticipates that this year's revenue projection may be impacted.

Dialog records stronger Q4 earnings, full-year net profit slips 47pct

KUALA LUMPUR: Dialog Group Bhd posted a net profit of RM147 million in the fourth quarter ended June 30, 2025, up 6.5 per cent from RM138 million a year earlier, supported by lower operating expenses and higher contributions from joint ventures and associates. Despite stronger earnings, lifted by higher other operating income, revenue fell 24.9 per cent to RM608 million from RM810 million, weighed down by weaker upstream contributions and reduced overseas business activities. In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, the group said domestic performance was lifted by midstream operations, which recorded stronger earnings on the back of healthy tank storage occupancy. Downstream operations also contributed positively, driven by cost optimisation and the completion of several projects. However, upstream revenue and profit declined due to lower production from scheduled maintenance shutdowns and weaker realised oil prices. The group said international operations also registered lower revenue and profits, following the completed sale of Dialog's entire 60 per cent stake in Dialog Jubail Supply Base. For the full year, net profit dropped 47 per cent to RM303.8 million from RM575 million, while revenue fell 20.6 per cent to RM2.5 billion from RM3.15 billion. Dialog said its core business remains intact as it refocuses on key strengths across upstream, midstream and downstream segments. The group plans to tap into rising upstream activity by offering engineering and specialist technical services, while continuing phased capacity expansions for long-term midstream customers. "Our focus will be on our ongoing development of Pengerang Deepwater Terminals into one of the largest petroleum and petrochemical hubs for the Asia Pacific region. "Within the development, Dialog and Petronas Gas Bhd joint venture has commenced work on the liquefied natural gas-driven air separation unit facility," it said. The group added that downstream operations will continue to leverage its integrated technical expertise in engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC), plant maintenance, catalyst handling and specialist products. "Given the current geopolitical and market uncertainties, the group will conduct thorough risk assessments for new projects and strategically pursue opportunities that align with our risk management framework and strategic goals. "Dialog will take a cautious and selective approach to bidding for EPCC contracts, prioritising in-house projects," it said.

ECM Libra unit to sell Penang hotel property for RM51.89mil

KUALA LUMPUR: ECM Libra Group Bhd 's wholly owned subsidiary ECML Hotels Sdn Bhd will dispose of two adjoining freehold land parcels in Penang to Wealthpro Holdings Sdn Bhd for RM51.89 million. ECM said in a Bursa Malaysia filing that the property consists of two adjoining freehold plots with an 11-storey hotel building featuring 258 rooms. Proceeds from the sale will be used for bank loan repayments, project developments, future business expansions, working capital needs, and estimated taxes and expenses. The group added that the disposal will not cause ECM Libra to become a cash company or a PN17 company under the Listing Requirements. ECM Libra said the group is undertaking the disposal as part of its strategy to constantly evaluate its portfolio of investments and, where possible, to seek opportunities to unlock and realise the value of its investments for the benefit of shareholders. "Based on the disposal consideration and the audited net book value of the property as at Dec 31, 2024 of approximately RM22.9 million, the group is expected to record an estimated one-off pro forma gross gain on disposal of approximately RM29.0 million before deducting estimated taxes and expenses of RM4.3 million,' it said. Barring any unforeseen circumstances and subject to all requisite approvals being obtained, the disposal is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2026. - Bernama

Bursa Malaysia stays lower at midday, in sync with weaker regional sentiment

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia stayed in the negative territory at midday, in tandem with the weaker regional market performance, weighed down by selling pressure in selected heavyweights. At 12.30 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) slid 7.42 points to 1,579.18 from yesterday's close of 1,586.60. The benchmark index had opened 0.31 of a point firmer at 1,586.91 and moved between 1,577.81 and 1,595.31 throughout the morning trading session. Market breadth was negative with 577 losers outpacing 307 gainers, while 491 counters were unchanged, 1,189 untraded and 17 suspended. Turnover stood at 1.40 billion units worth RM1.17 billion. Hong Leong Investment Bank Bhd said Wall Street was higher overnight as softer-than-expected United States (US) consumer price index reinforced bets on a rate cut during the US Federal Open Market Committee meeting on Sept 17. "Risk sentiment was further buoyed by US President Donald Trump's 90-day tariff truce with China and optimism ahead of the Trump-Putin ceasefire summit in Alaska, aimed at ending the three-year Russia-Ukraine war. "Focus now turns to tonight's US Producer Price Index print for clues on the US Federal Reserve's preferred inflation gauge,' it said in a research note today. Back home, it noted that the FBM KLCI surged to almost the 1,590 mark at the close yesterday, signalling sustained bullish momentum, with resistances revised higher to 1,600, 1,615, and 1,640 levels. "On a healthy pullback, key supports are located at 1,571, 1,557, and 1,547. A decisive break below these levels may lead to a deeper consolidation towards 1,535 and 1,522 levels,' it said. However, it said near-term volatility may persist, weighed by persistent foreign selling. The investment bank highlighted the year-to-date outflows of RM14.50 billion -- the highest since 2020's RM24.6 billion pandemic-induced exodus -- and the tariff overhang as Malaysia awaits clarification from the US on Malaysia-made chips after Trump proposed a 100 per cent levy on semiconductor chips made outside the US. "Also, near-term volatility could persist, weighed by muted earnings season and limited upside catalysts from corporate results. "Domestic policy risks, namely ongoing concerns over subsidy rationalisation and potential sales and service tax expansion, may dampen consumer sentiment and cloud earnings visibility,' it said. Among the heavyweights, YTL Power International eased 13 sen to RM4.16, YTL Corporation fell 8.0 sen to RM2.49 and Tenaga Nasional went down 14 sen to RM13.66, while IHH Healthcare was 4.0 sen higher at RM6.95 and Petronas Chemicals added 3.0 sen to RM3.63. In active trade, Oxford Innotech advanced 2.5 sen to 40.5 sen, Mtouche Technology and TWL inched up half-a-sen to 3.5 sen and 3.0 sen, respectively, and Tanco rose 1.5 sen to 72 sen, while XOX Technology slipped half-a-sen to 3.0 sen. Across the broader market, the FBM Emas Index slid 58.86 points to 11,745.32, the FBMT 100 Index trimmed 60.56 points to 11,528.45, the FBM Emas Shariah Index decreased 63.48 points to 11,705.07, the FBM ACE Index weakened 11.57 points to 4,643.04, and the FBM Mid 70 Index declined 115.49 points to 16,660.87. Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index slipped 37.65 points to 18,036.25, the Plantation Index reduced 17.61 points to 7,580.38, the Industrial Products and Services Index inched down 0.17 of a point to 158.34, and the Energy Index shaved 2.26 points to 735.38. - Bernama
