Bengals' trade candidate listed as fit for Colts, Rams
The Cincinnati Bengals remain likely to move on from linebacker Germaine Pratt at some point this offseason after the veteran's trade request.
While much of the attention when it comes to trade rumors in Cincinnati (incorrectly) focuses on Trey Hendrickson, Pratt continues to fly a little under the radar. He's been away from the team since the swap from Lou Anarumo to Al Golden as defensive coordinator and the Bengals followed that up by drafting two linebackers.

Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox, at least, puts Pratt in his top five on a trade big board, suggesting the Indianapolis Colts and Los Angeles Rams as fits.
"The Colts, who employ former Bengals defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, should consider bringing Pratt into the fold. Indy ranked 29th in total defense last season, and Pratt "was close" to Anarumo, according to Rapoport."
As always, Pratt's struggles last season, his $8.2 million cap hit and how obvious it is he's done in Cincinnati make it hard for a trade to happen.
Teams like the Rams and especially the Anarumo-coordinated Colts might be much more inclined to wait around and see if and when the Bengals cut Pratt.
Those Bengals drafted Demetrius Knight and Barrett Carter to form a rejuvenated linebacker group with Logan Wilson still at the heart of the unit.

Indianapolis Colts' running back Jonathan Taylor still has two years left on his current contract, but could be in store for another big payday when he hits free agency in 2027. Anthony Holzman-Escareno of put together his 'All-Paid Team of Tomorrow,' and at the top of the running back position group was Taylor. Holzman-Escareno projects that Taylor could earn $21 million per year on his next deal. Advertisement "With the cupboard bare of running backs who are poised to legitimately challenge Saquon Barkley for the All-Paid crown, Taylor is shunted to the top of the list," wrote Holzman-Escareno. Taylor signed a three-year, $42 million extension with the Colts back in 2023. At that time, he was still just 24 years old, and when he's set to be a free agent again, he will still only be 28 years old at that time. Currently, Taylor is averaging $14 million per year, which heading into the 2025 season, is the fourth-highest mark in the NFL. Taylor appeared in just 18 total games between the 2022 and 2023 seasons, but stayed relatively healthy in 2024--missing only three games--and he was highly productive once again. On the year, Taylor rushed for 1,431 yards, which was the fourth-most in football, and scored 11 rushing touchdowns. In Cincy, the team broke the piggy back to keep happy their star wide receiver tandem of Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, resulting in a cost of over $275 million between the two contract extensions. But left in the dust - so far, anyway - is one more star And if the Bengals can't figure out how to also keep happy their biggest defensive star, defensive end Trey Hendrickson? Maybe that's that's where the Commanders can swoop in. Hendrickson has asked for a contract extension since the start of the offseason. He is currently slated for an over $18 million cap hit in the final year of his deal. ... and there is market-based logic now that makes it clear he can ask for $30 mil per year or maybe even more. Advertisement He was initially encouraged to seek out a trade. That didn't work. He's been involved in extension talks. That hasn't worked, either. So now comes a major turn: Teams have called; we bet that group includes Washington and GM Adam Peters. The Bengals have been steadfast in stating that they want first-round value for the veteran if they do deal him. As Hendrickson grows more angry and claims the Bengals have lied to him? That's not happening. And another twist: ESPN is suggesting a trade that would cost Washington nothing more than two Day 3 picks and young D-lineman Jer'Zhan Newton. Really? That's it? Advertisement Maybe Cincy management folds and pays the guy who gets a rather amazing 17.5 sacks per year. Or maybe it means management demonstrates a willingness to accept less than a premium pick package. Washington is shy on picks; it can only offer so much as a result of the Laremy Tunsil and Deebo Samuel trades. But Washington isn't shy about being aggressive in talent grabs. And to ESPN? Hendrickson is "grabbable.'' Advertisement What's the one trade you want to see by the time training camp rolls around? I want to see Trey Hendrickson get traded because I don't think he is going to get paid by the Cincinnati Bengals. So I'd like to see him get traded and, uh, of course, I, he's got to go to a contender. This probably wouldn't happen because it's within the same conference, but I'd like to see him get traded to the Los Angeles Chargers because they're sitting on just over $26 million in cap space right now. So they've got enough to fit the first year of a big pass rusher contract extension. The Chargers had a lot. lot of needs coming into the offseason and they do have some questions along the interior offensive line. Advertisement That's still outstanding. But the other big need that I don't think they really satisfied this year was getting more juice, uh, in terms of their pass rush. They brought back Kul Mack. That's nice. He's had, he had a pretty good season for them last year, but they did wave goodbye to Joey Bosa, and I don't think they have someone just waiting in the wings there that can fill that. So, um, I do think that's a trade I'd like to see whether it's gonna happen or not. Uh, I don't say I have like all the little compensation notes for you, but I'd love to see that one get done. Hendrickson and Khalil Mack is like perfect as far as like synergizing two edge players. Advertisement Khalil Mack is just, I mean, just a badass on rundown. It's really good against the run, still a good sack guy. You have the passer, but then you get a guy that's a true more finesse guy, and Hendrickson that you have to passer. That's the perfect little pairing. So I, I really like this one. I'm not. Um, really wasn't even came to mind maybe for Hendrickson. I've, I've been kind of just see kicking around some of the teams that have cap space, but Charles, any thoughts on this one? Yeah, it makes it makes a lot of sense, um. It's just, it's just, uh, it's probably because the Chargers like you're in a spot where you, you probably need a lot of help if you're actually going to go out there and compete for the AFC title, but your quarterback is so good that it's going to be difficult to add, uh, the help that you need. Advertisement So I think getting someone that uh that already has NFL pedigree, like Trey Hendrickson, he's only 30, so you can still get a couple more years out of him maybe before he hits the wall. I think this makes makes a lot of good sense to add him to the roster.
