Cotswolds village dubbed Britain's Beverly Hills has just one pub and a cafe

Welcome to Britain's Beverly Hills – where the hum of private jets fills the air and a single sausage roll will set you back £8.

The tiny chocolate box village of Great Tew in Oxfordshire has just 156 residents and is served by one pub and a small cafe. But in recent years, famous names have arrived in their droves, with everyone from the Beckhams and Simon Cowell to US chat show host Ellen DeGeneres calling it home.

And hundreds descended on the local church last month to watch the late tech billionaire Steve Jobs' daughter Eve, 27, wed Olympic showjumper Harry Charles, 26. The newfound popularity of Great Tew – which has more thatched cottages per square mile than anywhere else in the country – has sent house prices skyrocketing, with a simple three-bed in the OX7 postcode now fetching at least £2.5million.

Travel fans urged to visit European country now – 'before it becomes popular'
Villagers reckon celebrities are drawn to the peace and quiet, but fear the parish will buckle under the strain. One says: 'We're overrun. People come here to celebrity spot. We've gone from being a place virtually nobody's heard of to one of the UK's most sought after. It's pretty unbelievable when you think about it.'

It hasn't always been this way. In the 1970s, many of the cottages lay derelict. One historian described it as 'one of the most depressing sites in the country' and coachloads of people would visit to get a glimpse of the abandoned village that time had forgotten.
But things changed in 2015, when exclusive private members' club Soho Farmhouse pitched up on the outskirts. The venue hosted Meghan Markle 's hen do in 2018. The £2,500-a-year club, which offers everything from surfboard yoga sessions to a Japanese grill house serving seared fish salads, quickly became the go-to weekend escape for the well-to-do.

A year later, David Beckham, 50, and wife Victoria, 51, nabbed the neighbouring barn conversion, which boasts a pool, football pitch and outdoor kitchen, for £6.15m. They were quickly followed by Simon Cowell, 65, and his fiancée Lauren Silverman, 48, who, locals say, have got stuck into village life.
One resident reveals: 'Simon rides an electric bicycle. He's a creature of habit and rides around the village each day on his set route before picking up a latte and smoothie from Quince and Clover.'

A small coffee at that cafe-cum-delicatessen costs £4, while ice creams start at £6.50 and smoothies at £7.95. Eggs and avocado on toast is priced at £17.50, a salt-beef bap is £16.95, and a sausage roll – albeit one adorned with fennel and sunflower seeds – comes in at £8.
Prices at the Falkland Arms pub next door – the go-to watering hole for the Soho Farmhouse set – are more modest, with cocktails starting at £8.45. Many of the rich and famous arrive in helicopters and private jets, landing at nearby Enstone Airfield before being ferried to the pub in one of the club's electric Porsches.
Ellen DeGeneres is another local – and the 43-acre pad she bought there is on the market for £22.5m. The US TV host, 67, and her wife Portia de Rossi, 52, paid £15m in 2019 and, according to the estate agent, have transformed the converted barn into 'an enchanting and secluded rural retreat'. There is a gym and pool, and the potential to turn the helicopter hangar into a tennis or padel court.
There wasn't, however, enough room for Portia's beloved horses, so they moved nearby. Great Tew is smack bang in the middle of the so-called Cotswolds' golden triangle, sandwiched between the affluent market towns of Chipping Norton and Burford. Former PM Boris Johnson, 61, and his wife Carrie, 37, live in the nearby village of Brightwell-cum-Sotwell and 65-year-old Jeremy Clarkson 's Diddly Squat Farm is a 15-minute drive away. And US Vice President JD Vance, 41, is reportedly spending his summer in a sprawling manor house a stone's throw away.

TNT Sports 'pick Gareth Bale as Rio Ferdinand's replacement' after star impressed bosses

Rio Ferdinand announced he was leaving TNT Sports in May after over a decade in the role as he looks to pursue personal projects and Gareth Bale has been lined up as his successor TNT Sports has reportedly agreed a deal with former Tottenham and Real Madrid star Gareth Bale to become one of their main pundits for the season after the departure of Rio Ferdinand. ‌ The broadcaster has been on the lookout for new pundits after Ferdinand announced he would be stepping down from his recurring role in May following ten years in the job. ‌ Ferdinand has been one of their most recognisable faces on TNT during Premier League, Champions League and Europa League matches and has been an ever-present since joining in 2015 under the channel's previous name BT Sport. ‌ The Manchester United legend said he wanted to experience a new chapter and focus on his own YouTube channel Rio Ferdinand Presents, as well as his other business interests. TNT have now made their move in finding Ferdinand's long-term successor by securing five-time Champions League winner Bale as their next big-name pundit, according to the Guardian. Bale will accompany his former Tottenham team-mate Peter Crouch and Chelsea legend Joe Cole as part of TNT's line-up alongside the likes of Ally McCoist, Owen Hargreaves, Michael Owen and Steve McManaman. The former Wales winger has been seen more regularly on TNT in recent months, having been part of the coverage group for the Europa League final between Tottenham and Manchester United. He will be seen on TNT's Premier League and European coverage, with the broadcaster having exclusive rights to the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League this season. ‌ They have also secured a four-year deal to show FA Cup games, though the BBC will still air a total of 14 matches, including two quarter-finals, one semi-final and the final. Ferdinand explained in a statement earlier this summer that he was excited about experiencing new challenges as he revealed his decision to quit TNT. He said: "Since retiring from football it has been a privilege talking about the game I love for a decade for sports fans watching on BT Sports and TNT Sports. ‌ "The network continues to thrive with more rights than ever, and I look forward to following its progress and the exciting future that lies ahead. "As I turn the page to the next chapter. I carry with me countless memories. I'm excited about what the future holds, spending more time with my family, focusing on Rio Ferdinand Presents and my other business interests. I hope to stay connected with all of you in different capacities. Thank you once again for everything." Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. Based in London and Dubai, the PT is among the Instagram influencers proving that being 'fit' doesn't have an age limit. After turning 45 in June, she's cracked the code when it comes to thriving in midlife, saying she feels: 'Fit, strong and calm.' Here, Sarah reveals exactly what it takes to look and feel that good – and you don't have to be an Olympian to achieve it. Walk Every Day I walk most mornings at 6am, usually for around 45 minutes, which is about 6,000 steps. It warms me up and gets my body moving, and it also helps clear my mind ready for the day. Walking is such an underrated form of exercise – whether it's taking a stroll at lunchtime, doing the school run on foot or meeting friends for a walk and talk, it's a simple activity to incorporate into your day. Eat Protein For Breakfast I start the day with three eggs or 300g of steak and vegetables. I appreciate most people don't want steak for breakfast – Greek yoghurt is also high in protein, so just mix with some nuts for a dose of healthy fats. The protein from the eggs or steak helps support my muscles, plus it keeps me feeling full. I choose savoury over sweet, because a high-sugar breakfast can cause a spike in blood glucose levels, followed by a crash, and then the need for more sugar or caffeine to pick the energy back up. Sarah Lynsey's home and gym workout to get a body like Sydney Sweeney Take Collagen daily I add Correxiko Marine Collagen Powder, £39.95 for 30 servings, to my morning coffee and evening hot chocolate. I also take a spoonful of collagen jelly at some point during the day. Collagen helps to support my joints, bones and muscles, plus keeps my gut health and my skin looking young. Add Supplements My top-five supplements are magnesium, zinc, creatine, collagen and NAD+ (a coenzyme found in every cell of the body). These help me recover after exercise, sleep well, improve my cognitive function and reduce inflammation, which helps to stop me falling ill. Do an Afternoon Workout As I've grown older, I feel more vulnerable to injury in the mornings, so I save more intense workouts for later in the day, once my muscles have warmed up. I will never train without eating first. Training when fasted doesn't make you burn more fat, but it does increase your chance of burning muscle. Aim for 40-Minute Sessions I weight train for 40 minutes, three times a week, doing full-body workouts. Any more than that and I struggle to stay focused. I always train with a plan – I don't just wing exercise and hope for the best. Every session has a clear purpose, with no ego lifting, just smart training that keeps me moving and living well. On days that I do train, I have a protein shake afterwards to help my recovery. Switch it up regularly You have to mix up your weight training every month or so, otherwise your body will stop adapting and progressing. I tend to change the exercises I do, the amount of weights I lift and/or the length of rest periods between exercise sets. I'll also change my training focus, such as strength, muscle growth, endurance, conditioning or power, so that I can keep improving, getting stronger and fitter. At the moment, I'm doing 15 reps per set, because I am in a conditioning phase. This means I'm improving my aerobic fitness and muscular endurance. Increase Rest Time I do exercises in pairs and alternate between upper- and lower-body movements. For example, a set of squats immediately followed by a set of bicep curls. It's important to do compound moves, like squats, which involve multiple joints and muscles, as well as isolation moves, such as bicep curls, which involve one muscle or joint. Your training programme depends on your health, injuries, experience and current level of fitness, rather than your actual age. The most important thing to adjust as you get older is to increase your rest times – as you age, you need more rest days to support recovery. If you don't recover, you don't improve. Opt for Home-Cooked food When I'm eating at home, I keep it simple. For lunch, I have two salmon fillets, potatoes and salad. For dinner, I eat three chicken thighs with rice and veg. Being organised is important, because if I'm starving I'll go for the most convenient food, whatever it is. So having something balanced and healthy already made helps me avoid fast food. I will have a couple of snacks during the day, such as nuts, fruit or sometimes toast. I don't count calories, but it can be useful if you're trying to make changes to body composition, such as getting leaner or adding muscle. Never Ban Treats I do have a sweet tooth and I don't restrict myself, which is why I never binge on sweet stuff. Food is one of life's greatest pleasures, and if I want something, then I will have it. My go-to sweet treat is always dark chocolate. I like Booja-Booja, because it's rich and full of flavour, so I only need a couple of chocolates to feel satisfied. Or I'll have a few dates or some sweet popcorn. If you have unhealthy eating habits or if you feel guilty when you eat treats, you need to try to reframe your thinking. This is a huge and complicated topic and very individual, so it's difficult for me to advise. The most important thing is to not beat yourself up about it, and to try and make a realistic plan to form new habits. Limit Alcohol intake Alcohol is my biggest nutritional downfall – I'll drink champagne to celebrate, have wine with dinner, Aperol on holiday or a gin and tonic at my local pub, but I'm pretty good at having a few, then stopping. When you realise how much more productive you feel the next day without overdoing the alcohol, it makes it far easier to stop after just a few. It's also a good idea to drink water between each alcoholic drink, as this slows down your drinking. Know your Numbers I have semi-regular blood tests to check if I'm deficient in any nutrients. If you can't get in shape because you constantly crave certain foods and alcohol, then it's worth checking for deficiencies. For example, if you're always craving dark chocolate, it could mean you're deficient in magnesium, or craving salty snacks might mean a sodium deficiency. From the age of 40, everyone should be getting their NHS Health Check every five years, which measures things like blood pressure and cholesterol. Refine your Bedtime Routine A bit of discipline can go a long way to improving your sleep quality. Aim to finish eating three hours before going to bed, and stop using your phone or anything else digital at least an hour before bed. A colder room can often help you sleep better, and if you're someone with a busy brain, journalling before getting into bed can be a game-changer to get your thoughts out of your head and on to paper.

TALK OF THE TOWN: Becks may have splashed out on a lavish birthday dinner - but when it comes to gravy, he's a Bisto kid at heart

He may have spent thousands of pounds whisking his family to Paris and Bordeaux for his lavish 50th celebrations in May – but I can reveal there's one surprising thing that Sir David Beckham refused to splash out on at his Michelin-star birthday meal in London: gravy. I'm told that even though Becks hosted his family and friends at Core – a swanky Notting Hill restaurant where dinner costs £225 per person – the former footballer requested a classic dish of pie drizzled with Bisto. Instead of opting for a delicious gravy made by the finest chefs, Becks insisted that his sauce was crafted from Bisto gravy granules – which cost a mere £2.95 for 190g at Sainsbury's. The seven-course meal at Core, which was attended by the Beckhams' close friends Tom Cruise, Eva Longoria and Gordon Ramsay, was just one part of a decadent four days of celebrations for Sir David's 50th. The glamorous events kicked off with a black-tie party at the family's Cotswolds estate, followed by a spot of wine-tasting in Bordeaux, a slap-up meal at Sir David's favourite restaurant in Paris, L'Ami Louis, before they all checked in to the plush five-star hotel, La Reserve. The Beckhams' eldest son Brooklyn and his wife Nicola did not attend the birthday celebrations, which intensified speculation that the couple had fallen out with the rest of the brood. It's not the first time Sir David has shown his passion for Bisto: he shared his surprising recipes on Instagram during the pandemic, which included a shepherd's pie doused in Bisto gravy. Perhaps Sir Becks will strike up an advertising deal with the brand. Aah! Bisto? More like, aah! Becks. Mama Mia's not impressed I fear Mia Southgate's mother Alison is growing weary with her daughter's quest for the perfect Instagram reel. Mia, 24, whose father is former England manager Gareth, showed in a post that Alison, 58, right with Mia, has been acting as her camerawoman. In the video, Mia says: 'Outfit of the day today,' to which Alison snarls: 'This is doing my absolute head in.' Dua's dad lays into festival freeloaders Pop star Dua Lipa's father has launched a scathing attack on fans who asked for free tickets to see the singer perform at a festival in Kosovo last week. Dukagjin Lipa, 47, co-organiser of the event, wrote: 'All of you who are asking for free tickets, NONE of you are a social case. You can't put all of Kosovo in VIP!' Looks like in this case VIP stood for Very Irritated Papa! It's game, set and new match for Emma Raducanu's billionaire ex, Carlo Agostinelli, whom she dated for a year. He has reportedly struck up a close friendship with Italy's Princess Vittoria of Savoy. The pair have been seen at a football game in Paris and sharing cosy evenings in with friends. Former Made In Chelsea star Jamie Laing has been outed as a teenage drug dealer… by his mother. Speaking on her son's podcast, Penny Baines admitted to snooping on Jamie's phone as he was growing up. 'I read your texts,' she confessed, before revealing the bombshell message: 'I can't get you this but I can get you MDMA [ecstasy].' Jamie denied her claims but Penny added: 'You were horrendous.' Mane-changer Is Kate Moss's sister Lottie seeking a new career as an Aussie Rules footie player? I only ask because the 27-year-old has been showing off a shaggy mullet hairstyle, beloved of players of the sport. Lottie was spotted showcasing her new look at posh Notting Hill restaurant The Fat Badger. Lottie's top topic of the evening however, seemed to be her sadness that another swanky venue, the Chiltern Firehouse in Marylebone, ravaged by fire earlier this year, remains closed.
