Nothing Phone 3 confirmed to offer extended software support: All details
The Nothing Phone 3 will officially debut in India on July 1, 2025. This year, Nothing teases the products as 'first true flagship' as it teases premium materials, powerful chipset, refined software and improved camera. Just a few days ago, Nothing revealed that the Phone 3 will be powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 processor, raising eyebrows about its flagship capabilities. Now, company co-founder Akis Evangelidis has confirmed the smartphone's software support, which offers about 7 years of security updates. As the launch gets closer, we expect that Nothing will gradually reveal more details about the Phone 3 model and what it will offer in the flagship segment.

After Nothing Phone 3 was revealed to be powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 processor, many people on social media showed their doubts. Therefore, to provide clarity, Evangelidis shared a post on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting the chip's capabilities. The post highlighted performance improvements in comparison to Phone 2, which showcases the Phone 3 has 88% improvement in GPU, 33% faster CPU, and 125% upgrade in NPU.

However, a user questioned, 'Why not 8 Gen 3, isn't it better? ' To which Evangelidis replied, saying that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor has weaker performance in comparison to the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, and that it offers 4 years of OS and software support by default. Whereas, Nothing Phone 3 with the new chip will offer 5 years of software updates and 7 years of security updates. This will come as a major upgrade since the Phone 3 supports only 3 years of software and 4 years of security updates.

This year, the Nothing Phone 3 will ditch the iconic glyph light interface, but it may bring a transparent rear panel. The smartphone could feature a 6.7-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It is tipped to feature a 50MP triple camera setup that may include a 50MP telephoto lens with up to 3x optical zoom. Reports suggest that the Phone 3 may come with an upgraded battery, with an expected size of about 5200mAh. Apart from these hardware upgrades, the software is also likely to provide users with seamless AI integration. However, nothing about AI has been revealed as of now. Therefore, we will have to wait until July 1 to know what Nothing has planned for its flagship model.

Apple's hardware chief: AI will transform how we build the world's most advanced chips
Apple is planning to harness generative artificial intelligence to accelerate the design of its custom chips, marking a significant shift in how the tech giant develops the silicon powering its devices. Johny Srouji , Apple's senior vice president of hardware technologies, revealed the company's AI ambitions during a speech in Belgium last month while accepting an industry award. "Generative AI techniques have a high potential in getting more design work in less time, and it can be a huge productivity boost," Srouji said, according to a recording reviewed by Reuters. The executive emphasized that Apple consistently adopts cutting-edge tools for chip development, including the latest software from electronic design automation companies. The move reflects Apple's aggressive push into AI-powered semiconductor development The announcement comes as major chip design software companies Cadence Design Systems and Synopsys race to integrate AI capabilities into their platforms. "We went all in, including a monumental software effort," he said. Apple's chip design ambitions extend beyond current products. Recent reports indicate the company is developing new processors for upcoming smart glasses and AI servers, with launches targeted for 2026-2027. The company's M5 chip, built on advanced 3nm architecture, has reportedly entered mass production. This AI-driven approach to chip design represents Apple's latest effort to maintain its competitive edge in custom silicon, a strategy that began with the A4 processor in 2010 and has become central to the company's hardware differentiation strategy. Nothing Phone 3 to get 7 years of software support with Snapdragon 8s Gen 4
The Nothing Phone 3 will offer the brand's longest software support yet, with five years of OS updates and seven years of security updates New Delhi British consumer technology brand Nothing has confirmed that its upcoming flagship smartphone, the Nothing Phone 3, will come with an extended seven-year software support window. Responding to a question on X (formerly Twitter) about why the company opted for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chip instead of last year's flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, Nothing co-founder Akis Evangelidis stated that the newer chip enables a longer support timeline. According to Evangelidis, using the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 would have limited the Phone 3 to four years of software support, whereas the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 allows for five years of OS updates and seven years of total software support, including security patches. In addition to longer support, Evangelidis said the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 offers better GPU and NPU performance, enhanced connectivity, and improved image signal processing (ISP), making it a more forward-looking choice. Earlier this week, the company had officially announced that the Phone 3 will be powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, promising up to 88 per cent better GPU performance, 33 per cent improved CPU output, and a 125 per cent jump in NPU efficiency for AI tasks, compared to the Nothing Phone 2. Apple eyes using AI to design its chips, technology executive says
By Stephen Nellis SAN FRANCISCO: Apple is interested in tapping generative artificial intelligence to help speed up the design of the custom chips at the heart of its devices, its top hardware technology executive said in private remarks last month. Johny Srouji, Apple's senior vice president of hardware technologies, made the remarks in a speech in Belgium, where he was receiving an award from Imec, an independent semiconductor research and development group that works closely with most of the world's biggest chipmakers. In the speech, a recording of which was reviewed by Reuters, Srouji outlined Apple's development of custom chips from the first A4 chip in an iPhone in 2010 to the most recent chips that power Mac desktop computers and the Vision Pro headset. He said one of the key lessons Apple learned was that it needed to use the most cutting-edge tools available to design its chips, including the latest chip design software from electronic design automation (EDA) firms. The two biggest players in that industry - Cadence Design Systems and Synopsys - have been racing to add artificial intelligence to their offerings. "EDA companies are super critical in supporting our chip design complexities," Srouji said in his remarks. "Generative AI techniques have a high potential in getting more design work in less time, and it can be a huge productivity boost." Srouji said another key lesson Apple learned in designing its own chips was to make big bets and not look back. When Apple transitioned its Mac computers - its oldest active product line - from Intel's chips to its own chips in 2020, it made no contingency plans in case the switch did not work. "Moving the Mac to Apple Silicon was a huge bet for us. There was no backup plan, no split-the lineup plan, so we went all in, including a monumental software effort," Srouji said.
