The soft flicker of flameless candles bathed the ballroom of Hyatt Centric Ballygunge in a warm, golden glow on Sunday evening, setting the stage for the inaugural Candlelight Concert – a stirring hat-tip to AR Rahman.
The ambience felt cinematic, almost surreal – hushed, dreamlike, and gently luminous. A four-member ensemble – on the sitar, tabla, santoor, and keyboard – took the audience on a soul-stirring journey through Rahman's timeless discography. From the spirited cadence of Ghanan Ghanan to the haunting tenderness of Tu Hi Re, each composition was reimagined with intricate precision and emotional depth, striking a delicate balance between rhythm and reverie. As the hour-long performance unfolded, evergreen tracks like Jiya Jale, Yeh Haseen Vadiyan, Luka Chuppi, and Kun Faya Kun washed over the room, drawing soft hums and nostalgic smiles from the audience. 'I've always loved Rahman's music,' said attendee Anjali Jha, 'but hearing it live, stripped of lyrics, felt like hearing it for the
first time.'

Did AR Rahman troll Coldplay for the viral kiss cam scandal during his live concert? Watch viral video

At a recent stop on his Wonderment Tour in Washington, AR Rahman had the audience in splits with a perfectly timed one-liner that many believe was a sly dig at Coldplay's recent kiss cam fiasco. As the camera panned to fans waving and smiling in the crowd at the Tacoma Dome, Rahman paused mid-performance and said with a chuckle, 'I won't get you into trouble. Don't worry.' The remark drew instant applause and laughter, with many in the audience catching on to what seemed like a light-hearted jab at the now-viral Coldplay incident. — ARRahman_News (@ARRahman_News) Explore courses from Top Institutes in Please select course: Select a Course Category Project Management Operations Management Degree Public Policy Finance Data Analytics Data Science Leadership Product Management healthcare Design Thinking PGDM MBA others Data Science Technology MCA Management Others Cybersecurity Digital Marketing CXO Skills you'll gain: Project Planning & Governance Agile Software Development Practices Project Management Tools & Software Techniques Scrum Framework Duration: 12 Weeks Indian School of Business Certificate Programme in IT Project Management Starts on Jun 20, 2024 Get Details The timing couldn't have been more spot-on. Just days earlier, Coldplay's concert at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts made headlines for all the wrong reasons. When the kiss cam zoomed in on a couple—later identified as Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and Chief People Officer Kristin Cabot—their affectionate moment was broadcast on the big screen. What looked like a sweet moment turned controversial, sparking rumours of an extramarital affair and ending with Byron's resignation from the company. Even Coldplay's frontman Chris Martin chimed in at the concert, joking, 'Either they're having an affair or they're just very shy.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo About AR Rahman's tour and upcoming work Meanwhile, Rahman's tour continues to garner massive attention, with stops across the US, Canada, and the UK before wrapping up in India. AR Rahman shares excitement about collaborating with Hans Zimmer for Ramayana: ‘Who would have thought…'

Oscar winners AR Rahman and Hans Zimmer have joined forces to compose the music for Nitesh Tiwari's upcoming film Ramayana, starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita, and Yash as Ravana. In a recent interview, Rahman opened up about working on Ramayana's music. In a conversation with Connect Cine, Rahman was asked about entering the 'Rahman 2.0' phase and how he is keeping pace with the rapidly changing music industry. 'I think I am born everyday. The whole world is changing everyday. A few thoughts have to go and new thoughts have to come,' he said. The singer added that he ensures his core remains constant despite the changes. 'But, the core of me is the same. What I believe in and what we can do with my music and how I can share it with people who love me, accept, or don't accept me. My efforts and the whole intention are the same. But, there are many other changes happening because the studios are different, artistes are different, the way they are recording is different, the way we vibe is different and the projects are different too.' It's our Indian culture and I am really proud of that project. I hope that everything goes well.' Rahman further shed light on the process of working with Zimmer. 'The first few sessions we had were great. The first session was in London, the second one was in LA, and the third was in Dubai. Wherever Hans travels, I also find a base there. He is very similar, I mean…how curious he is about the culture and how open he is to criticism. He also heads the narrative, where he says, hey I can't understand this, can I bring in a Western perspective?' Produced by Namita Malhotra and Yash, Ramayana also features Lara Dutta, Ravi Dubey, and Sunny Deol. The part one of the film is slated for a Diwali 2026 release and part two will be released in 2027.
