Umno leaders must explain unity govt role to members says Khaled
He said that while the collaboration is gradually gaining acceptance, some members at the grassroots level remain confused or disillusioned.
'Since Barisan Nasional's (BN) defeat in the 2018 general election, no single party has dominated the national political landscape. Umno, too, has contested only as part of a coalition,' he said when officiating the Kuala Terengganu Umno Division Delegates' Meeting today.
Also present were Terengganu Umno Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Rozi Mamat and division chief Datuk Mohd Sabri Alwi.
Mohamed Khaled, who is also Defence Minister, stressed that Umno remains committed to its founding principles, particularly the defence of Malay rights and privileges.
He said the party had set clear conditions before joining the Unity Government, including recognition of Malay leadership.
'Our strategy may have shifted, but our values and principles remain unchanged even in cooperation with DAP.
'There's no need for doubt. Umno's ideology is rooted in the party's constitution. Any claims suggesting otherwise are mere attempts to weaken the party,' he added. - Bernama

Suddenly championing Sabah rights
Published on: Sunday, July 13, 2025 Published on: Sun, Jul 13, 2025 Text Size: I REFER to your report on Minister Datuk Armizan exposing the hypocrisy of Sabah Umno leaders who are now pretending to champion Sabah's interests (DE July 6). I wonder if one of them is the same one who vigorously defended convicted former PM Najib Razak, insisting there was no such RM42 billion 1MDB scandal. He also said Sabahans should just celebrate Malaya's independence on Aug. 31 instead of Sept.16 (Malaysia Day, it was carried in your paper). He started his political career in PBS, then jumped to Umno where he realised his dream briefly, quickly dumped Umno and joined PKR when Umno was rejected. He was probably hoping to lead PKR in Sabah. But when he found it was not so easy, he wormed his way back to Umno and is now issuing statements regularly to portals like FMT suddenly championing Sabah. Is Dr M really a statesman?
'Without feelings of respect, what is there to distinguish men from beasts?' - Confucius COMMENT | I waited a day to pen these thoughts. Dr Mahathir Mohamad turned 100 on July 10, and I'm not the type to spoil a birthday bash. Call it decency. The type mentioned in Scott Fitzgerald's 'The Great Gatsby' as 'a sense of the fundamental decencies… parcelled out unequally at birth'. And like all decent Malaysians, I often reflect on what we could have achieved as people and a country if our politics had taken a different turn. Mahathir's tenure from 1981 to 2003 turned a multi-racial country into a Malay-supremacist state. It hasn't worked out well. How else can we explain his...

Losing time and again isn't a free pass to party-hop, Zambry warns Kelantan Umno members
KOTA BARU, July 13 — Barisan Nasional (BN) secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said Umno members in Kelantan need to discard a defeatist mindset and remain loyal to the party's struggle even though they have been in the opposition seat for a long time. He said that the actions of certain parties who easily give up and jump parties after defeat are a big mistake that undermines the strength of the party. 'There are those who, after losing, immediately admit defeat and jump to another party in the hope of being accepted. That is a mistake, and if they can do that to their own party, what guarantee do we have that they won't do the same thing again?' he said to reporters after officiating the Umno Division Delegates' Meeting in Pengkalan Chepa here yesterday. Zambry, who is also the Minister of Higher Education, praised the success of the 102 Umno branches in Pengkalan Chepa that managed to hold meetings, even though Umno in that state has been in opposition for more than five decades, thus reflecting the party's grassroots strength. At the same time, he reminded party members to continue cooperating at all levels, including the Women's, Youth and Puteri wings, to strengthen the party's efforts. — Bernama
