US court allows DOGE access to Education Department data: Here's how it impacts students
Department of Education, as well as the Treasury Department and the Office of Personnel Management. The decision restores DOGE's access to federal databases while the broader legal challenge continues.
What is DOGE and why does it matter for students?
DOGE was established under the Trump administration to improve efficiency across federal agencies. The office, closely associated with Elon Musk, who served as an informal adviser to former President Trump, has employees embedded in multiple agencies to review operations and data.
Although Musk stepped down from his White House role in May 2025, DOGE continues its work.
According to the
EdWeek
, the American Federation of Teachers, along with other unions and individuals, had challenged DOGE's access, arguing that it violated the Privacy Act of 1974 and placed sensitive data at risk. Specifically, the lawsuit noted DOGE employees accessed the Student Loan Data System, which contains records of approximately 43 million Americans, including teachers.

The suit did not allege that K-12 student records were accessed.
The court's reasoning
In its 2-1 decision, the 4th Circuit cited procedural issues with the lawsuit and indicated that the plaintiffs would likely have difficulty proving a violation of the Privacy Act. According to the
EdWeek,
Judge Julius N. Richardson, a Trump appointee, wrote that DOGE employees are tasked with a broad duty to improve agency efficiency and would find it challenging to know what needs reform without reviewing the data.
Judge Richardson further noted that 'each plaintiff's information is one row in various databases that are millions upon millions of rows long,' suggesting that the potential harm from granting access to a handful of government employees differs in kind from the risks posed by reporters, investigators, or paparazzi.
The majority also referenced a U.S. Supreme Court order in June that allowed DOGE employees access to Social Security Administration files, which similarly faced privacy concerns. According to the
EdWeek
, Richardson stated, 'This case and that one are exceedingly similar'.
In dissent, Judge Robert B. King, a Clinton appointee, argued that the district court had provided a thorough analysis demonstrating the plaintiffs were likely to succeed on the merits of their Privacy Act claim. He described DOGE's access as 'sudden, unfettered, unprecedented, and apparently unnecessary' and emphasised the sensitivity of the personal information involved.
Implications for students
For students, this ruling highlights the ongoing tension between government efficiency initiatives and the safeguarding of personal data.
While K-12 records were not part of the lawsuit, the ruling still involves access to large federal education databases, which could include higher education loan records and other student-related information. It underscores the need for students and educators to remain aware of how personal data is accessed and managed at the federal level.
The case is not yet fully resolved. The full 4th Circuit is expected to examine the broader implications of DOGE's access in the Social Security Administration case in September, which may provide further clarity on the limits and oversight of such government data initiatives.
As legal proceedings continue, students and education stakeholders may see changes in how government offices access and use sensitive educational and personal data, making this a topic worth monitoring closely.

Promising new crypto launches you can still get in early
Advertorial Spotlight Wire Every financial market goes through cycles of hype and speculation, marked by sentiments of hope, confidence, regret. This happens mainly when the market is bullish and opportunities, both taken and missed, create an environment of chaos. Here is a list of new crypto launches that are trending this season. They have yet to list on exchanges, which means investors have a short window to grab them for fixed, discounted prices in their ongoing presales. $T6900 is driven by the crypto community's well-known love for satire. $HYPER sets out to bring Layer-2 functionality to the Bitcoin blockchain, and Best Wallet challenges the dominance of MetaMask. 1. TOKEN6900: This new meme coin embraces honesty Meme coins defied the age-old notion of fundamentals in finance. DOGE proved that internet memes are all it takes for a project to bring together people from around the globe and raise billions in market cap. If the meme hits, the crowd follows. That's how new meme coins such as DOGE and PEPE blew up. Now TOKEN6900 ($T6900) is jumping into the mix, skipping jargon-laced white papers and leaning into chaos. Interestingly, that's working better than most new crypto coins. Instead of fixing finance or revolutionising markets 'using AI' or 'the metaverse,' the meme coin offers satire, sarcasm, and nostalgia. The presale has already crossed $2 million, with 80% of its total supply open to the public and a hard cap of $5 million. It even objectively stands superior to its spiritual predecessor, SPX6900, by minting one extra token. Despite its refusal to offer utility, TOKEN6900 rewards early holders with passive returns right from the presale phase (over 40% APY or annual percentage yield at the time of writing). As more investors join, the APY will gradually drop, encouraging early participation and optimism. project calls itself the first true NCT (Non-Corrupt Token) as it doesn't inflate supply or hide behind smoke-and-mirror features. With growing social media presence, influencer mentions, and a community already forming, can TOKEN6900 be the next meme coin to explode? That remains to be seen, but with its unapologetically honest narrative, it might be what today's educated meme coin crowd is looking for. Visit the $T6900 presale 2. Bitcoin Hyper: This new crypto is ready to expand Bitcoin's functionalities Bitcoin Hyper ($HYPER) is another top new altcoin to watch this season. As legacy meme coins such as DOGE and SHIB cool off, Bitcoin Hyper is heating up, raising over $9 million in its ongoing presale. The project brings a Layer-2 solution for Bitcoin using the Solana Virtual Machine (SVM) to deliver speedy transactions, ultra-low fees, and a new playground for decentralised finance (DeFi) and decentralised apps (dApps). It does all this while staying anchored to Bitcoin's ecosystem. Hyper allows users to bridge their BTC into a high-performance chain. Once inside, they can buy, sell, earn, swap, and interact with applications at Solana-level speeds, all powered by Bitcoin-native could unlock serious potential, as billions worth of BTC sitting idle on Layer-1 enter active circulation within Hyper. How? By fuelling decentralised apps and reducing the available BTC supply. That's a powerful idea when Bitcoin is climbing toward $130, ongoing $HYPER presale follows a tiered model, with each stage increasing the token price. Early buyers not only get the best price deals, but also access to high passive rewards, around 180% APY at the time of writing. These dynamic rates encourage early locking and long-term holding.$HYPER isn't just another crypto concept stuck in theory. It's already live on devnet. According to the website, the devnet already supports: Programme deployment via Solana CLI Contract calls and tx flows through the web console Account state management and instruction tracing Real-time transaction visibility via the explorer If it continues to deliver on its roadmap, Bitcoin Hyper could become a core pillar of the BTC DeFi narrative. Visit the $HYPER presale. 3. Best Wallet: The crypto wallet that's more than just storage Third on this list of top crypto launches to watch now is Best Wallet Token or $BEST. The upcoming altcoin has raised over $14 million in its ongoing presale and already powers a noncustodial wallet with 250,000+ active users. The demand for secure, user-friendly wallets has never been higher. Best Wallet answers this by pairing comprehensive app security with 2-factor authentication and Fireblocks MPC security addition to providing a secure space to store crypto under the complete control of the owner, Best Wallet makes the wallet work for them. Unlike clunky legacy options such as MetaMask, Best Wallet is designed for speed, simplicity, and perks. To begin with, it plans to offer cross-chain compatibility with over 60 blockchains, five of which are already integrated. Built-in swap tools and secure fiat on-ramping add to its charm. There's more coming, including limit orders, MEV protection, and a crypto-linked debit card (Best Card).Holding $BEST unlocks benefits, including reduced transaction fees, early access to hyped presales via the 'Upcoming Tokens' feature, and exclusive passive rewards. Early backers are rewarded for their patience and faith in the platform, with APYs reaching up to 90%As institutions expand their crypto reserves amid growing regulatory clarity, investors are seeking reliable wallets. Best Wallet's combination of self-custody security with DeFi and iGaming perks makes it hard to ignore. Having already raised $14 million, the undervalued altcoin is expected to be listed on exchanges soon. Before that, $BEST tokens are available in the ongoing presale for fixed, discounted prices. Visit the $BEST presale. Backed by successful presales and growing social media presence, these three new crypto projects have caught the attention of early is still in the early rounds, with prices climbing up. $HYPER just crossed the $9 million mark, while $BEST has already pulled in over $14 the next bull cycle about to begin, these new tokens seem to be more than just noise. India scours the globe for more oil ahead of Trump-Putin summit
India's refiners are diversifying crude oil sources amid potential US pressure to curb Russian imports, spurred by President Trump's demands and tariff hikes. State processors are actively purchasing non-Russian crude from various global markets for September-October delivery. While private refiners may continue Russian imports, concerns over secondary sanctions are pushing some to explore alternative payment methods and smaller banks. Tired of too many ads? Remove Ads Tired of too many ads? Remove Ads Refiners in India, the world's top importer of seaborne Russian crude, are scouring the globe for alternative supplies, hedging their bets ahead of a summit between the US and Russian Donald Trump, eager to gain traction in talks with Vladimir Putin, has demanded that India stop purchases of cut-price crude that fuels the Kremlin's 'the war machine,' and last week doubled tariffs on the country's goods as punishment. The move left refiners in the world's third-largest oil consumer looking to switch up their procurement state processors have bought large volumes of non-Russian crude this week for prompt September-October delivery, extending a buying spree spurred by an early threat by Washington. Indian Oil Corp . and Bharat Petroleum Corp . have taken cargoes from all corners of the market including the US, but also Brazil and the Middle spot market purchases comes on top of supplies from long-term sellers like Saudi Arabia, which is set to send about 22.5 million barrels of crude to India for September loading, traders said. India's monthly imports from Saudi last exceeded that level in September 2024, according to data from analytics firm meeting between Trump and Putin in Alaska on Friday will be closely watched by the industry, eager for clues as to whether the US will ease pressure on Russian sales — or crank it up. India has long had close ties to Russia and Foreign Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will be traveling to Moscow next week with a delegation that's likely to include Petroleum Secretary Pankaj Jain, the most senior bureaucrat in the oil will hold talks with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov on Aug. 21, according to a post on X by Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on India has not been a significant importer of Russian crude, depending more heavily on the Middle East. All that changed in 2022, after the invasion of Ukraine and a $60-per-barrel price cap imposed by the Group of Seven nations that aimed to limit the Kremlin's oil revenues while keeping supplies flowing imports amounted to about 1.7 million barrels a day, or nearly 37% of the nation's overseas purchases, in mid-2025. They were mostly of Urals crude, a medium-density grade that can be interchanged with barrels from across the Middle East. While the total volume that India would need to find as replacement is significant, the task has been made less challenging in a market awash with oil after the return of OPEC+ barrels and softer demand from major economies such as now, Indian private refiners such as Reliance Industries Ltd. and Nayara Energy are still expected to continue buying Russian crude, some of which is procured via term contracts, even as state refiners hold back on spot purchases for loading in producers have already started to tout Urals more aggressively to Chinese buyers in response to the potential shift. Prices have been cut for offers of Urals for delivery in September to October, suggesting some of the oil was diverted from Indian importers who still want to take Russian crude are being met with hesitation from banking and logistics partners worried about the prospect of Trump's threat of so-called secondary sanctions on those supporting the trade. In light of such reservations, traders said some private players may increasingly look at buying more Russian crude using smaller banks, Chinese yuan and dark-fleet has warned he would impose 'very severe consequences' if Putin doesn't agree to a deal later this week, a threat that the oil market will struggle to fully quantify and prepare for. Oil-market observers have said that the Chinese may be wary of piling in on Russian crude — taking supplies that it doesn't desperately need due to ample flows from Iran — to avoid Washington's wrath.

India among fastest growing economies: JSW chairman Sajjan Jindal
JSW Group chairman Sajjan Jindal on Thursday countered US President Donald Trump's recent remarks on India, saying India is one of the largest and fastest growing economies in the world. Speaking at the listing ceremony of JSW Cement at the NSE here, Jindal said India is the fastest growing large economy and has a great future ahead, days after US President Donald Trump's remark of India being a dead economy. "We are going to see a great future for India, because India is growing, it's one of the largest, fastest growing large economies in the world. Whatever Trump may say, that doesn't matter. We are the fastest growing large economy in the world," Jindal said. "I don't care what India does with Russia. They can take their dead economies down together," Trump had reportedly said. Stating that JSW Cement will grow fast as accelerated growth is in the DNA of the Group, he said, "we can't be conservative, we have to be aggressive and that's what India requires. The company's market valuation stood at Rs 20,914.02 crore. The capital markets are not just about raising funds, it's about winning the trust of the investors, Jindal said and added that "in the long run, you don't need to take a big jump, but small steps and the investors are always with you." JSW Cement Managing Director Parth Jindal said that he was aiming to take the company to the top two in the industry. "... I have to dream to be in the top two and we all will dream to be in the top two and to build this company," he said. "We have just begun and I hope that we can create value for all our minority shareholders and take this company to its rightful place and be a big part of the future growth story of the JSW group," he said. He said that at present a lot of JSW group companies have the vision to go public, adding that," Now, I'm fully trained, fully ready and geared up to take all of you public as well.
