Texas A&M Beats Out College Football Playoff Contenders In Major Recruiting Win
Texas A&M Beats Out College Football Playoff Contenders In Major Recruiting Win originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Head coach Mike Elko and the Texas A&M Aggies continue to surge on the recruiting trail ahead of the 2025 college football season.

The Aggies signed a top-10 class in Elko's first recruiting cycle and are in the hunt for a similar finish in the class of 2026. The current group, featuring 12 four-star commits, ranks seventh nationally with much of the cycle still remaining.
And Wednesday's news marks a significant win for Texas A&M, which fought off some perennial powers to land four-star cornerback Camren Hamiel, the latest highly-touted recruit to pledge to the Aggies.
Hamiel plays for Desert Edge High School in Goodyear, Arizona, where he ranks as the top player in the state, the No. 12 cornerback and the No. 86 recruit overall in the 2026 class (ESPN).

Hamiel (6-foot-1, 180 pounds) racked up 50 tackles (5 for loss) with three pass breakups and three interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown, as a junior last season.

Elko and Co. were battling with defending national champion Ohio State, Oregon and Alabama for Hamiel. There is certainly now shortage of recruiting prowess among those College Football Playoff contenders, as each signed top-10 classes in 2025.
Hamiel's pledge adds to a group that already features four-star cornerback Victor Singleton, also one of the top players at the position. Defensive backs coach Bryant Gross-Armiento and safeties coach Jordan Peterson played key roles in recruiting both to College Station.
Hamiel is fresh off an official visit to Texas A&M and previously scheduled an official trip to Oregon on June 12.

Former Texas A&M Closer Evan Aschenbeck Named Midwest League Pitcher of the Week
Former Texas A&M Closer Evan Aschenbeck Named Midwest League Pitcher of the Week Former Texas A&M closer Evan Aschenbeck is in the best stretch of his minor league career since leaving Aggieland. After tossing seven scoreless innings on the road against the Fort Wayne TinCaps, he's been named the Midwest League Pitcher of the Week. Aschenbeck found his rhythm early, holding the TinCaps hitless until the bottom of the sixth inning. Backed by a 10-1 win, he earned his second victory with the South Bend Cubs, allowing just one hit and striking out five across seven innings. He will be back on the mound on Thursday night against the Lake County Captains. During his time at Texas A&M, fans grew used to seeing Aschenbeck come in to close out games. But since turning pro, he's proven himself as a quality starter at the High-A level. Time will tell whether he continues climbing the ranks to Double-A and beyond, but for now, he's making the most of every opportunity when his number is called. 5-star CB Brandon Arrington sets commitment date with Oregon football as a finalist
5-star CB Brandon Arrington sets commitment date with Oregon football as a finalist On Monday morning, 5-star cornerback Brandon Arrington took to his social media and teased some big news to come. On Monday night, he delivered, announcing that he was cutting his recruitment down to two schools — the Oregon Ducks and Texas A&M Aggies — and moving his commitment date up to this Thursday, June 19. Arrington was originally set to announce his commitment on July 5, but after taking an official visit to Oregon earlier this month, he is accelerating that timeline. However, Arrington is also scheduled to take an official visit to Texas A&M this coming weekend. It seems as if he will either take that visit as the newest member of the Aggies' 2026 class or cancel that visit after committing to Oregon. Arrington stands at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds, and is rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 10 player in the 2026 class and the No. 1 ATH. From Spring Valley, California, Oregon has been recruiting him heavily for a long time now and is projected as one of the favorites to land him. There are currently no Crystal Ball projections for Arrington on 247Sports, but the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine has the Texas A&M Aggies as the heavy favorite to land the 5-star player, with Steve Wiltfong logging a prediction all the way back in October of 2024. In just a few days, we will find out at long last where the blue-chip player is headed. Thunder Make NBA History After Game 4 Win Over Pacers
Thunder Make NBA History After Game 4 Win Over Pacers originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Oklahoma City Thunder flirted with disaster in Game 4 of the NBA Finals. However, in the process of avoiding a worst-case scenario, they made NBA history. Advertisement After a tight contest throughout the first three quarters of Game 4, the Thunder were catapulted to a decisive 111-104 victory over the Indiana Pacers after a strong 31-17 fourth quarter. The win evened up the NBA Finals at 2-2. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was held without an assist for the first time in the entirety of 2024-25 NBA season. However, this season's MVP did deliver his usual dosage of scoring medicine, dropping 35 points. It was the first time since 1962 that an NBA Finals game featured a performance that involved a player scoring 35-plus points and no assists. Jerry West was the last player to be in that elusive club. That was not the only piece of history in this matchup for the Thunder. They set a new standard for an NBA team in a single season. Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (2) shoots the ball against Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton (0) during the first half during game three of the 2025 NBA Finals at Gainbridge Terada-Imagn Images The NBA posted on Twitter/X, "After tonight's game, the Thunder have scored 12,205 points, setting a new NBA record for most total points scored across the regular season and postseason, passing the 2018-19 [Golden State] Warriors (12,161)." Advertisement The Thunder are the new benchmark for scoring excellence in league history. Oklahoma City averaged 120.5 points in the regular season, and have continued that success with 116.2 in the NBA Playoffs. There could be one key reason for the Thunder not wanting to be in the same company as the 2018-19 Warriors, though. That iteration of the Golden Dynasty wound up losing the 2019 NBA Finals. Kawhi Leonard and the Toronto Raptors took down the Warriors in six games to win the Larry O'Brien trophy that season. However, the Thunder have already better-positioned themselves in an aim to avoid a similar disaster. The 2019 Warriors fell behind 3-1 in their NBA Finals matchup. Meanwhile, after setting the new scoring mark, the Thunder will head home to Oklahoma City for a pivotal Game 5 matchup with the series tied.
