Quick Summary
All Xbox Game Pass members get Grand Theft Auto V for free as part of their subscriptions this month, whether on Ultimate, PC Game Pass or Standard.
It will be added to the service on 15 April, with Xbox Series X/S owners getting the 2022 remastered version and PC owners getting GTA V Enhanced when it's available.
Microsoft has a superb lineup of games coming to Game Pass this month, with a big day one release, one of the most fun shooters of recent times, and arguably the best game of all time being made free on the platform.
The headliner is undoubtably the latter – Grand Theft Auto V. Even though it was originally released more than a decade ago (on Xbox 360 and PS3, in fact), it still stands today as one of the finest games you can play.
It's been through a number of remastered iterations since, gaining enhancements for subsequent console generations, and the version we have today is as sumptuous to look at as it is to play.
It is this edition that'll be available to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and Standard members, plus PC Game Pass subscribers from 15 April. Xbox Series X/S owners will get the improved variant released for Xbox Series X and Series S a couple of years ago.
PC gamers with rigs that are capable enough will even get the forthcoming GTA V Enhanced update at no extra cost, which adds new vehicles and modifications, plus some incredible and transformative new ray tracing effects.
The game itself needs no other hype – it is, in my opinion, one of, if not the greatest of all time. There's good reason behind its original 97 score on Metacritic. And it's one of very few titles to have received maximum scores across many review outlets.
In terms of the other games available on Game Pass in April, Borderlands 3 Ultimate Edition, All You Need is Help, Still Wakes the Deep, and Wargroove 2 are each available to download and play right now – with the latter two arriving on Game Pass Standard for the first time.
The all-new action-adventure from the developer of We Happy Few, Compulsion Games, will be available from 8 April, when South of Midnight makes its debut. While Diablo III: Reaper of Souls – Ultimate Evil Edition will also arrive the same day.
Then there's Commandos: Origins – another day one release – and Blue Prince, which will be added on 9 and 10 April respectively.
Finally, rounding up the first half of the month, will be Hunt Showdown 1896 on 15 April.
All games will be included as part of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, but you should check the official Xbox blog post for other details on console type, plus PC and cloud availability.

Microsoft reveals new handheld Xbox Ally gaming PC in partnership with Asus

As with the Xbox Series X|S, the ROG Xbox Ally will ship in two models: one aimed for power users (Ally X), and a cheaper model (Ally, shown here) with slightly lower specs. (Xbox Image) After months of rumors, Microsoft officially debuted its ROG Xbox Ally gaming PC on Sunday, made in collaboration with Taiwanese computer company Asus. The ROG Xbox Ally is planned to ship this holiday season with two separate SKUs, with the same scheme and coloration as the Xbox Series X|S console. The white Ally is a lower-powered model aimed at casual players, while the more expensive black Xbox Ally X is billed as the 'ultimate high-performance handheld.' No prices have been announced. Both models of Xbox Ally are custom-made versions of Asus' ROG Ally handheld unit, with exclusive features such as a dedicated Xbox guide button. They're designed to support local native downloads, remote play by connecting to a local Xbox console, or streaming gameplay through the newly-rebranded Xbox Cloud. According to Microsoft, the Xbox Ally runs an optimized version of Windows 11 Home that integrates features from both Microsoft's Game Bar and Asus' Armoury Crate app. The Windows OS also lets you install games from multiple digital storefronts such as and Steam, or use apps such as Discord. The Xbox Ally is also stated to feature a 'Xbox full screen experience' that aggregates all your games from every available library connected to the device, eliminating the need to hunt through all your various apps to find what you're looking for. Both versions of the Ally are planned to ship with the recently-announced Copilot for Gaming integrated into the Game Bar, billed by Xbox as an AI-powered 'personalized gaming companion.' The Xbox Ally X is also powered by an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme chip, which is designed to 'power the latest AI features as they are introduced.' The Xbox Ally was revealed as part of this year's Xbox Showcase, a 90-minute presentation held as part of the annual Summer Games Fest in Los Angeles. While past Showcases have been broadcast live from the Microsoft Theater, this year's was pre-recorded, with segments hosted by Microsoft's Sarah Bond, Matt Booty, and Phil Spencer. Bond made a point of noting during the Showcase that every game that was shown this year will ship day-and-date on both Xbox Game Pass and will be compatible at launch with the Xbox Ally. One big surprise about the Xbox Ally, mentioned almost in passing during the Showcase, is that the long-awaited indie platformer Hollow Knight: Silksong is currently scheduled as a 'launch title' for the Ally. This is the first mention of Silksong anywhere during Summer Games Fest, which is a shock, as 'where's Silksong?' has been a running joke during every major gaming show for the last couple of years. In a slightly lower-key detail, this was the first Xbox Showcase held after Microsoft's recent move into cross-platform publishing. While no specific announcements were made on the topic, every game that's also headed to competing storefront like the PlayStation 5 or Steam was labeled as such during the Showcase. That was not the case before today. Obsidian's The Outer Worlds 2 lets you fight or potentially join the minions of 'Auntie's Choice,' the company that's bleeding the system of Arcadia dry. (Xbox Image) Other announcements at this year's Xbox Showcase included:
