Drug driver, 81, told police someone slipped cocaine into his birthday lemonade
An 81-year-old has been disqualified from driving after he was found behind the wheel under the influence of cocaine. Arthur Ball was more than three times the legal limit when he was tested driving home from his own birthday party on June 2. Police had pulled Ball over just after midnight in Warrington, and his car – a Motability Toyota Yaris – had a police marker on it as potentially being used by a drug dealer. Ball said he had not been drinking alcohol or taking drugs, but while his roadside breath test result was a 0, the result of his blood test led to him being arrested. The pensioner claimed a guest at his birthday must have slipped a wrap of cocaine into his lemonade during the party. His results showed Ball had 162micrograms of benzoylecgonine (BZE) per litre of blood in his system. BZE is a breakdown product of cocaine and the legal limit is 50mg. Ball appeared at Warrington magistrates court where he pleaded guilty to drug driving. He was fined £120, banned from driving for a year, and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £48 surcharge. His lawyer Mark Lever said in mitigation: 'He had been out for his birthday, a late birthday celebration. He had not been drinking. He believed that what he had drunk had been contaminated by cocaine. He does not use cocaine. More Trending 'He cannot bring evidence of that so he accepts that he has committed the offence. 'He was pulled up by the police. Strangely, police have a marker on his car for a drug dealer. He is not a drug dealer. How it got there goodness knows. 'His driving was not impaired. He has not driven in an erratic manner. He would like to drive again but he accepts he is going to find it difficult over the next 12 months.' Figures released in 2023 suggested drug driving had become more common than drink driving, with an average of 80 drug drivers caught every day. An article was published on the official royal website to mark King Charles's sister's special occasion on Friday. But number 14 revealed Princess Anne had two stepchildren from her second marriage to Sir Timothy Laurence, called Tom and Amy Laurence. In reality, the Princess Royal was Sir Tim's first wife when they tied the knot in 1992 - and he did not have any kids. Meanwhile Anne has a son, Peter Phillips, and a daughter, Zara Tindall, with her first husband Mark Phillips. Mark and Anne, who were married for 19 years, divorced the same year she wed Sir Tom. The falsehood was taken down from the website shortly after royal fans were quick to point it out. It's not known exactly where the information came from, although the same error was published by Woman & Home magazine a few years ago. There's speculation whoever wrote the royal website article may have used AI, which found the info from this 2023 piece. A palace source told the Daily Mail: "The facts were checked, and that one was a late addition, sourced from a reputable publication online, which unfortunately wasn't put back through the checking process. "There was no AI sourcing on our part." Royal Engagement: Peter Phillips to marry NHS nurse Harriet Sperling Buckingham Palace has been contacted for comment. Meanwhile, other facts published in the list ranged from the royal's birth to memorable public engagements. "Her Royal Highness was born Princess Anne Elizabeth Alice Louise at Clarence House on 15 August 1950, VJ Day, at 11:50 am," read one fact. It was shared alongside a heartwarming photograph of the late Queen Elizabeth holding the royal baby. 10 Queen Elizabeth holding Princess Anne as a newborn Credit: Instagram/@theroyalfamily 10 Anne has made a staggering 562 overseas trips, visiting every continent Credit: Getty 10 Peter Phillips and his sister, Zara Phillips photographed in July 1988 Credit: Getty - Contributor 10 The royal was the first in the family to hold an HGV licence Credit: Instagram/@theroyalfamily The article went on to explain how Princess Anne was a proud member of the first Buckingham Palace Company of Brownies and Guides. It also highlighted her honourable charity work, with more than 400 organisations worldwide. And, she has made a staggering 562 overseas trips, visiting every continent. It has seen her become Colonel-in-Chief of more than 20 British and Commonwealth regiments. Royal fans may have been intrigued to learn Princess Anne was even nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize by the President of Zambia in 1990. The Princess was also the first in the Firm to appear on a TV quiz, BBC's A Question of Sport. And, the first to hold an HGV licence - seeing her get behind the wheel of a double-decker London bus and a police vehicle. She was also the first member of the British Royal Family to compete in an Olympic Games, when she entered as part of the British Equestrian team at the 1976 Montreal Games, the list revealed. Other facts included her being the Patron of the Scottish Rugby Union. Sister to the king, she set to spend her birthday next month as she always does - sailing with her husband around Scotland for just ten days. After this brief period she will return to her work as a senior member of the royal family. This comes royal fans have also theorised hard-working Anne could now prove vital in Harry and Charles' peace talks. The Princess Royal is thought to have some useful advice to offer Harry on life as a "spare" in the Royal Family. A source close to the Royal Family told The Times that Anne could offer some words of wisdom to her nephew. The source said: "She often talked about how, as children, she was treated so differently from Charles. "She was second to him and kicked further down the line of succession as a woman, but she forged her own path. "In her twenties she was bolshy and upset about a lot of things, but she came through that. "He should talk to her about her experiences. She is shrewd. She could tell him a lot about what she went through.' Anne reportedly doesn't plan to retire until her tenth decade, following in Prince Phillip's footsteps. A dutiful and hard working member of the Royal Family, Anne overcame an injury just last year and returned to her duties just a few weeks later. The Princess Royal was admitted to intensive care last June with head injuries and a concussion after reportedly being kicked in the head by a horse at her Gatacombe Park estate in Gloucestershire. She was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol for tests and treatment before returning to her duties that July. Anne has been almost unstoppable for more than seven decades now, working nearly without pause. She is reportedly notorious among her aides for resisting attempts to create downtime for her. Shying away from attempts to celebrate her 75th birthday, Anne instead opted to celebrate more than 100 of the 400 charities she is a patron of. The Princess Royal hosted more than 100 of her charities at a Buckingham Palace reception last month as part of her birthday celebrations. Aside from the reception, Anne has accepted the issuing of a silver coin to commemorate the momentous occasion. Released last week the coin features the Princess Royal's face and the words "The Princess Royal. Celebrating 75 years. Duty and devotion.' In other news Princess Anne's son Peter Phillips has announced his engagement to girlfriend Harriet Sperling. Peter, 47, will marry Harriet, 45, after dating the NHS paediatric nurse for the past year. The couple are yet to set a date for the wedding but have informed the King and Queen today of their engagement. 10 Anne has been almost unstoppable for more than seven decades Credit: Getty 10 Princess Anne on the BBC show A Question of Sport Credit: Instagram/@theroyalfamily 10 The Princess has worked with more than 400 charities worldwide Credit: Getty

Peter Andre shares bombshell response to Katie Price comments stating 'This ends today'
It comes after Katie, 47, blasted those producing their daughter Princess Andre's debut reality TV series. Princess, 18, is seen with her dad throughout the series, while her mum features very little. She had urged Peter to sit down to end their feud. Peter Andre has brutally hit back at ex-wife Katie Price in a scathing upload. The Mysterious Girl singer, 52, took to social media as the war of words between the former couple reached a new level. It comes after Katie, 47, blasted those producing their daughter Princess Andre's debut reality TV series. Princess, 18, is seen with her dad throughout the series, while her mum features very little. She had urged Peter to sit down to end their feud. How now, as the Mirror reports, Peter has responded in a fierce Instagram post. The celebrity said: "For sixteen years, I have stayed silent in the face of repeated lies from my ex-wife and her family, out of respect for my children and loved ones, but staying silent has been incredibly frustrating. That ends today. "The latest comments about my children's welfare and living arrangements compel me to set the record straight. For well-documented reasons, and for their safety, Junior and Princess came into my care in 2018 and remained with me until they reached adulthood. In 2019, the family courts issued a legally binding order to enforce this arrangement. I have never made this public before, out of respect for my children. "In 2011 and 2015, publicly documented court cases, found my ex-wife had made false claims. She was ordered to pay substantial damages and legal costs, and to apologise, to me and my management. The same falsehoods are being repeated today. "Unfortunately, there are many more lies and baseless accusations I have yet to address. Those will now be dealt with in the coming months." In response, a spokesperson for Katie told the Mirror: "Kate is in a much better and clear headspace and is at peace with the situation, this was in the past and she doesn't feel the need to bring up tit for tat comments, but more importantly she's dealing with this the right way and it's now in her lawyers hands. Kate will no longer be gaslight [sic] and bullied as she once was..." Peter and Katie share two children together, son Junior as well as daughter Princess. The former couple no longer have anything to do with each other. The former couple haven't spoken since their divorce, following the breakdown of their marriage in 2009. And Katie recently made her feeling be known about Peter's management team managing Princess' career. Katie said she was "very, very upset" at the situation and said she is being left out. She also said she won't be watching the new reality show, which she isn't a part of. The mum-of-five claimed she was banned from her daughter's 18th birthday party and that her former management team – who look after both Peter and Princess – did not want her on the show as they considered her 'trash'. Speaking on her podcast recently, Katie alleged: 'Princess was like 'I'm having a party'. And I wasn't invited because it was for 'filming'.' In the documentary, Princess addressed traumatic memories of her glamour model mum Katie's divorce from Pete as well as her other very public relationships. In a candid confession, Princess said: "I did have a counsellor, I do still see her every now and then. "But I don't feel like I can really talk, so I just write everything down in my notes. I do wish, like, I could have had a more happier childhood. In the sense of like, I had so many things on my plate at a young age." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Now, Katie has claimed the family could benefit from sitting down and talking. She suggested a sit down talk with Peter and her former management The CAN Group as she said: "I feel like I've missed out on so much and it's so not fair to bring Princess as piggy in the middle so I think it's about time all of us adults just sit down and talk about what their beef is with me and just get over it. Life would be such more at peace." In the latest episode of the podcast, she also shared hopes for the former husband and wife to support their children together. Katie suggested: "There's no reason why both parents can't be there to support her." And speaking about her lack of involvement in Princess' TV show, she went on: "I have to clarify this; I don't care that I'm not in Princess' show I don't need to raise my profile by being in Princess' show I do enough stuff. I'm in the press every day. "All what I want to do is just whatever my daughter does – and it's the same with Junior – I don't care if I'm in the background, but I wanna watch her photoshoots, I wanna watch her do her signings – because that's what I did and my mum and you [sister Sophie Price] and nan used to come along and support and I'm proud of her and I just wanna be there with her."
