Serial offender threatened pub worker with knuckleduster
A serial offender threatened a Hamilton pub worker with a knuckleduster when he was refused a drink.
Jay Gibb also confronted a stranger with the weapon after leaving the bar.
Gibb, 23, of Wylie Street, Hamilton, appeared at the town's sheriff court on Friday.
He admitted acting in a threatening or abusive manner at Hemingways bar and in nearby Quarry Street on December 18 last year.
Lewis Devoy, prosecuting, said Gibb 'stumbled through the door' of the pub about 9pm.
The fiscal stated: 'He appeared to be under the influence and was told by a member of the bar staff that he wouldn't be getting served.
'The accused left but returned 10 minutes later. He had his jacket and jumper pulled up but was recognised by the same worker.
'He was again told he wouldn't be served and stated 'Do you know who I am?'.
'Gibb then took a knuckleduster from his jacket pocket and said 'Come on outside. I'm going to slash you.'
'This alarmed the employee but the accused then kicked the door open and left the pub.'
A man and his girlfriend were walking on Quarry Street at this point when Gibb approached, brandishing the knuckleduster.
Mr Devoy told the court: 'The accused asked 'Are you getting cheeky? I'll need to stab you.'
'This caused alarm and the couple walked away as quickly as they could.
'The accused followed briefly before turning and walking away.'
The police were informed and officers spotted Gibb throwing the knuckleduster into a bin at the bus station.
Gibb admitted a long list of previous convictions.
At the time of these offences he was under a supervision order for brandishing a BB gun at shop staff and carrying a knife.
Defence agent Gregor Jarrott said he had been doing 'exceptionally well' on the order for a time.
Sheriff Colin Dunipace deferred sentence until next month for background reports.
Gibb is currently in custody for another matter.

The army's 2nd Armoured Brigade Combat Team was created in 2016 when the service added more than 200 vehicles to an infantry unit of roughly 4,200 soldiers. Also known as the Spartan Brigade, the army has called the unit its 'most modern land fighting force'. Located about 40 miles south west of Savannah, Fort Stewart is the largest army post east of the Mississippi River. It is home to thousands of soldiers assigned to the army's 3rd Infantry Division and family members. The fort's three elementary schools were locked down, community superintendent Brian Perry told WTOC-TV. The schools have nearly 1,400 students, according to the Department of Defence. White House and Defence Department officials said President Donald Trump and Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth had been briefed on the shooting. The FBI was at the fort to help investigate, said deputy director Dan Bongino.
