Local community backs charity fundraiser after lifeline van damaged
Chris Halliday, founder and chief executive of the Halliday Foundation, discovered one of his delivery vans smashed up after a meeting in Dennistoun on July 16.
'I just couldn't understand why this had happened' Chris told STV News.
The charity was getting ready to move into the area and provide furniture to social housing tenants, as well as food packages and fuel vouchers to families living in poverty.
But, after their vehicle was vandalised, the charity was forced to cancel and postpone vital services.

'There was a family sleeping on the floor, and we were supposed to bring them beds. We had to cancel and get it done at a later time.
'We already have a huge backlog of people waiting for our help as well as 25 to 30 referrals a week, and that's just for furniture.'
The charity launched a GoFundMe to ask for funds to make up an insurance excess of £250.
Chris told STV News that the response from the Denniston community has been 'reinvigorating' with all the money needed raised within a week.

Chris said, 'The vandalism wasn't a good welcome to the area, but we've had a lot of response from the community.
'We've gotten calls asking to please still come and provide our service – that people still really need our support (in Denniston).
'Most have come from the local Denniston community, and we had others phoning in to provide support and donations.
'It's been really reinvigorating.'
Police Scotland said it is investigating the damage.

Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court heard he told a woman he was delivering takeaway to, 'oh my God, you're gorgeous', before asking her for her phone number. Yaseen later returned to the address, and was invited inside for coffee. A few minutes later, while sitting next to the woman, he touched her chest and stomach, to which she immediately replied, 'you don't do that'. He left, and police were contacted. They took a statement from the woman, and Yaseen's DNA was found on the woman's dress. Police sergeant Grant Robinson told the Licensing Sub-Committee on Tuesday: 'I am of the opinion that by reason of this conviction for a serious sexual offence against a stranger, the private hire car licence held by the licence holder should be suspended. 'In my opinion, the licence holder is no longer a fit and proper person to hold the licence, and carry out the licensing activity, as it is causing and likely to cause affect to public safety.' Yaseen was found guilty at the sheriff court on June 13 of this year. Police Scotland wrote to the council on June 19 requesting the immediate suspension of his private hire driver's licence, which was granted. On Monday, the committee agreed to extend that six week suspension, the standard length for any urgent stop to a private hire licence, to the end of his licence's validity on August 5. Yaseen told the committee the woman had given him his phone number while he was delivering food to her home, and invited him in for a drink. He said he declined because he was working, but came in when she offered coffee instead. According to him, he accidentally brushed her dress with his hand while in her home. Liberal Democrat councillor Neil Ross said: 'Despite everything the applicant has said, we have a conviction in front of us, he needs to make his appeal to court, not to this committee.' Conservative councillor and Sub-Committee convener Joanna Mowat added: 'This has been tried in court, where solicitors can call witnesses. 'We haven't got a witness in front of us, but we do have a prosecution. I don't see us doing anything other than continue the suspension given that this has been tried at a trial court.' Cllr Ross came back in to ask: 'If we suspend the unexpired portion, which takes us to August 5, which isn't very long, is there a new application process? Is this likely to come back to us?' Mr Mitchell replied the licence holder would still be able to apply to renew his private hire licence, and the renewal could be referred back to the committee. The committee agreed to extend the suspension of Yaseen's private hire licence until the end of its term. He applied for his first private hire driver's licence in August 2024, which was granted on August 16 of that year. Yaseen is due to be sentenced at a hearing on Monday, July 28.

Man rushed to hospital after ‘disturbance' sparks major police response in Glasgow
A major police operation was launched at Hyndland Street in Partick bringing traffic to a standstill. A man has been taken to hospital following a 'disturbance' that brought a significant police presence to Glasgow's West End. Emergency services raced to Hyndland Street in Partick around 4.45pm on Tuesday, July 22. The street was shut in one direction, with nearby Gardner Street also sealed off as officers dealt with the incident. A 49-year-old man was taken to hospital, with the extent of his injuries currently unknown. Police confirmed enquiries into the incident remain ongoing. A local resident described seeing a 'huge police presence' descend on the busy street, with multiple emergency vehicles at the scene. They told Glasgow Live: 'There's a huge police presence on Hyndland Street in Partick, next to the Quarter Gill, and the road is closed off at Dumbarton Road. "I counted six police cars and vans and three ambulances, and there's a cop standing guard at one close. The area is really busy at the moment so drivers will probably want to avoid it. Four charged on suspicion of human trafficking after raids across Dundee
The two men and two women were detained by officers following raids at properties in Dundee. Four suspects arrested on suspicion of drugs offences and human trafficking have been charged in connection with the operation. The two men and two women were detained in Dundee yesterday, Monday, July 21, and Police Scotland has said they have now been charged. The men - aged 34 and 35 - and women - aged 29 and 32 - were arrested following police raids on a number of properties in the City of Discovery. Officers from Police Scotland searched residential properties in the city's Douglas, St Mary's and Lochee areas, and a business premises in Douglas as part of the sting. The force said at the time of the arrests that they were not the end of the investigation, and that a probe into illegal activity in the city was still ongoing.
