Brian Barry-Murphy appointed Cardiff City head coach
Cardiff City have appointed Brian Barry-Murphy as their new head coach.
Barry-Murphy, 46, had worked as assistant to Ruud van Nistelrooy at Leicester City since December.
The Cork-born coach replaces Omer Riza, who was dismissed in April, and will lead Cardiff as they embark on their first season in the third tier since 2002-03.
Midfielder Aaron Ramsey was placed in interim charge of the club for the remaining three games of 2024-25 after Riza was sacked, but he could not prevent the club's relegation to League One as they finished bottom of the Championship.

The role marks Barry-Murphy's first senior head coach role since he departed Rochdale in 2021.
He went on to spend three years working with Manchester City's under-23 side, helping with the development of future Premier League players including Cole Palmer, Romeo Lavia and Oscar Bobb.
Barry-Murphy led City's under-23s to two Premier League 2 titles and is highly regarded as a coach for playing a progressive, possession-based style, heavily influenced by Pep Guardiola.
'Pep changes the way you think about football. I used to hear people say that and think, 'Really?'' he told The Athletic in September.

'It sounds a bit dramatic, like. But he does. He makes sense of the way you have to work repetitively every single day to bring to life the things you want to see on the day of a game.
'It's so simple in terms of how he implements it, but it's so difficult in terms of how obsessive he is about repetition and preparation. He's incredible, incredible.'
Leicester were relegated from the Premier League under Van Nistelrooy last season following an 18th-place finish in the top flight.

Gareth Bale is set to be the face of a potential takeover of League One side Plymouth Argyle. The former Wales international, who spent much of his career with Real Madrid and Tottenham, retired from football in 2023 as a five-time Champions League winner.
