went down with a scary injury in Game 6 against the

, shaking up the team's playoff momentum. The 20-year-old rookie has been a defensive standout this postseason, and his unexpected exit could have major consequences. With the series hanging in the balance, Bichsel's health suddenly becomes Dallas' biggest concern.
Dallas Stars' playoff control slips after Lian Bichsel's Game 6 injury
The Dallas Stars were cruising with confidence, holding a 3-2 lead over the Colorado Avalanche in their high-stakes first-round playoff battle. With a roster stacked with scorers like Jason Robertson, Matt Duchene, and Roope Hintz, it's easy to focus on the flash. But anyone really watching knows it's been the defense, especially 20-year-old Lian Bichsel, that's kept Colorado's lethal offense in check.

Midway through the second period of Game 6, Bichsel crashed violently into the boards during a routine battle with Jack Drury. It didn't look ordinary and it didn't feel minor. The young Swiss blueliner stayed down, clutching what appeared to be his shoulder, and needed help to leave the ice. Just like that, the Stars' backbone looked broken.
Without Bichsel, Can Stars be able to hold the line?
Bichsel may only be in his rookie season, but his impact has been anything but rookie-level. He's been logging double-digit minutes with composure, physicality, and a maturity beyond his years. In fact, it's Bichsel's pairing with veteran Alex Petrovic that has helped keep Colorado's sixth-ranked regular-season offense frustrated and limited.
His absence, whether temporary or long-term, could dramatically alter the tone of this series. The Avalanche, hungry and dangerous, only need the smallest crack to seize momentum. And if Bichsel's shoulder injury keeps him sidelined, Dallas might have just given them one.

As of now, the Stars have not confirmed the severity of the injury. But the optics don't lie, he wasn't able to skate off alone, and he hasn't returned. That silence is deafening for a team that has relied on his quiet brilliance all postseason.
The Stars still lead the series. But if Bichsel is out, the road to Round 2 just got a lot steeper.

PL: Chelsea, Palace battle out goalless draw, Nottingham beat Brentford 3-1

The early Premier League kick-off on Sunday provided very contrasting results as Chelsea were held to a frustrating goalless draw at home, while Nottingham Forest dazzled with a 3-1 win over Brentford. At Stamford Bridge, Chelsea dominated proceedings with 71% possession and a host of chances, but failed to break down a resolute Crystal Palace side. Debutant Estevao and fellow Brazilian Andrey Santos came closest for the Blues in the second half, while Palace thought they had taken the lead in the first period through Eberechi Eze's free-kick, only for VAR to rule it out. Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca handed debuts to several summer signings, including winger Jamie Gittens and centre-back Josh Acheampong, the latter starting in place of the injured Levi Colwill. Despite the attacking trio of Joao Pedro, Cole Palmer, and Pedro Neto creating pressure throughout, Chelsea were unable to convert, leaving them to settle for a point in their season opener. Meanwhile, over at the City Ground, Nottingham Forest delivered a blistering first-half performance to brush aside Brentford. Chris Wood netted twice before the break, the first a clever finish from a corner mix-up, and the second after rounding the keeper following Elliot Anderson's slick through-ball. Swiss winger Dan Ndoye, another summer addition, also opened his Forest account with a well-taken header, as Nuno Espírito Santo's side raced to a 3-0 halftime lead. Brentford pulled one back via an Igor Thiago penalty late on, but the damage had been done. Forest's win marks their first opening-day victory since 2017, while Chelsea will be left to rue missed chances in front of their home crowd. The early signs suggest Forest could be one to watch this season — while Chelsea search for cutting edge in attack and may look to add another forward this window.

Squaring up! Wayanad top bidder on day one of premier chess league auction

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Premier Chess League (KPCL), billed as the world's first fixed 20-board chess league, was launched in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday with the unveiling of jerseys, release of the theme song sung by Usha Uthup and player auctions. Wayanad ruled day 1 of the auction with a top bidding of Rs 42,000. As many as 654 players have registered for the event, which will be held on September 6 and 7. The competition promises to promote grassroots talents and make chess accessible to all. In fact, its rule that each of the 14 district-based teams must include at least 10 Kerala players, is aimed at shattering the game's elite image and taking it into schools, rural areas and everyday community life, said the organisers. 'Wayanad did not even have much interest in chess. Today, it made the highest bid of `42,000 for Swayams Mishra, a Grandmaster. That's the aim: to popularise chess and take away the perception of its eliteness. The game should be accessible to all,' said Renjith Balakrishnan, the CEO of Premier Chess Academy who is organising the event. He, along with Deputy Chief Umpire K A Yunus, unveiled the jerseys for the umpires and teams on the day. KPCL features 25-member squads per team – 20 active players and five reserves. The 20×20 format ensures representation across age, gender and skill levels. Matches will follow six Swiss rounds before the semi-finals and finals, with blitz or Armageddon tiebreakers, if required. Renjith said the league is designed to transform chess into a spectator-friendly sport and give grassroots players a chance to compete alongside Grandmasters. 'This is not just about competition, it is about creating a culture where chess beginners and top players share the same team,' he said.

Donald Trump's biggest NFL blunder? Passing on the Cowboys before Jerry Jones turned them into a $12.8B empire

Donald Trump once declined to buy the Dallas Cowboys. Jerry Jones bought the team in 1989 (Getty Images) President Donald Trump once waved off the chance to buy the Dallas Cowboys. Four decades later, that shrug reads like one of sports business's most expensive what-ifs. In 1984, when the franchise could be had for roughly $50 million, Donald Trump reportedly scoffed, saying he felt 'sorry for the poor guy who is going to buy' the team. Today, the Cowboys sit atop the NFL's value rankings at an estimated $12.8 billion—proof that the 'poor guy' turned into the richest brand in American sports. How a dismissed opportunity became a masterclass in brand building and media leverage The Cowboys haven't lifted a Lombardi in more than 25 years, but their business has boomed under Jerry Jones , who purchased the franchise in 1989 and rewrote the NFL's revenue playbook. From premium stadium experiences and relentless merchandising to global licensing and omnipresent media exposure, Dallas maximized every touchpoint. 'America's Team' became a 365-day content machine, drawing audiences well beyond wins and losses. The valuation gap tells the story. With the Cowboys at $12.8 billion and the next-closest NFL team—the Los Angeles Rams—far behind, Dallas's edge is rooted in cultural ubiquity as much as football results. In other words: championships are great; distribution, storytelling, and star power are scalable. The Jerry Jones era's paradox: commercial dominance amid on-field frustration Jerry Jones' stewardship hasn't been without friction. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Wonosari: Unsold Sofas Prices May Surprise You (Prices May Surprise You) Sofas | Search Ads Search Now Undo Contract standoffs and the perception that some stars weren't rewarded quickly enough have fueled periodic unrest, most recently around headline names in Dallas. Yet the franchise's financial arc kept climbing, showing how a powerhouse brand can thrive even when playoff exits sting. Donald Trump's 1984 quip doubles as a timeless business lesson. Sports franchises are media companies wrapped in uniforms; their upside compounds with smart timing, infrastructure bets, and an owner willing to sell the vision daily. Jones did all three. The result: a team worth roughly 240 times that old price tag—and a cautionary tale about passing on undervalued cultural assets.
