Brits travelling to Benidorm told to avoid 'huge mistake' when using taxis

Daily Mirror28-06-2025
A Brit abroad has warned people visiting Benidorm this year that there are allegedly "fake taxis" driving around, urging people to exercise caution when they're travelling
Heading to Benidorm this summer? One Brit abroad has shared that you may want to be careful about the taxis you're getting in while you're there. Harry, who posts regular Benidorm content under the username @harrytokky, shared the "warning," urging people to exercise caution because there are reportedly "fake taxis" which could turn out to be a "random stranger's car," and they will not take you to the destination you want to arrive at.
Harry explained in his TikTok video that he would tell people which taxis were safe to take and which to avoid completely if they wanted to stay safe in the party capital.

He said that "in Benidorm there's only one type of taxi that you should be getting into," and they are "white cars with a blue stripe down the middle".
Harry shared that they usually "have a light on the top of the roof," and it will be either green or red. "If they're red, the taxi is in use," whereas if the light is green, it's free to get in.
He said these taxis will "take you to your destination nice and safe," which is more than can be said for the "fake taxis" he speaks of.
Harry continued: "So guys, if you're coming out to Benidorm, they are the only taxis that you should be looking out for because you don't want to get into some random stranger's car" because they may not take you where you're going.
In the comments, someone wrote: "What about Uber? The last time I was there, I used Uber from Benidorm old town to the airport; it was a regular black car."
Others reiterated that they managed to use Uber while they were there, but others shared that they'd "struggled" and "couldn't get the app to work".

Another Benidorm visitor recommended "the Pide app," saying it was "really easy". Harry responded: "I totally agree with you. I should've mentioned that".
Somebody else said that they'd used the Pide app the "whole time" they were in Benidorm, saying it provided them with "fantastic service".
Radio Taxi Benidorm is a local taxi company that can be contacted by phone when you are in the area, and they provide safe taxi journeys that are legitimate.

In the comments, another person recommended that you look for the "blue stripe" on the car to be sure that it's a real taxi.
It's important to note that in high season, it may be more challenging to find taxis readily available at the ranks.
Others recommend that, for safety, you get your hotel to call you a taxi so you know they're real. You can also ask a restaurant to call you a taxi, so you're not walking around the streets to find one.
You can also check the Google rating of a taxi company before using it, but make sure you do your research online beforehand.

A cool, gritty Greek taverna has landed in the Shire – here's why you need to check it out

Say yasou to Homer Rogue Taverna – Cronulla 's newest 100-seat Athenian restaurant and wine bar from local legends Harry and Mario Kapoulas (yep, the brothers behind HAM café). Fresh from a culinary journey through Athens (we're sensing parallels to Homer's The Odyssey), they've brought back the Greek capital's culture and flavour to The Shire – minus the Mykonos clichés. Homer is gritty, grungy and gloriously unpolished – hence the 'rogue' in its name. The fitout is deliberately unpretentious; we're talking industrial concrete, mid-century chairs, a graffitied wall and a glorious three-metre wine fridge you're encouraged to explore yourself. The music is a vibe – you might even find a bouzouki player meandering between tables. The food? Made to share. Head chef Kirri Mouat (ex- Icebergs) and chef James Watson have eschewed fine-dining fare in favour of a menu full of Athenian attitude. There's charcoal-roasted chicken souvla, spanakopita, hand-rolled dolmades, saganaki flatbreads and family recipes like Mum's moussaka. Feeling adventurous? Try the koulouri sesame (Greek bagel) with tirokafteri dip, the beef stifado (stew) wrapped in crisp chicken skin to resemble a cigar, or baked manouri cheese in kataifi pastry drizzled with hot honey. Yep, that custom-built wood-fire oven is working overtime. To drink, there's Greek coffee, ouzo and mini Martinis. The wine list has a good balance of Greek and Australian drops, with Greek varietals like savatiano served by the glass or carafe. They've also teamed up with Young Henrys to brew their exclusive Homer's Epic Lager. At Homer, bookings are recommended – but walk-ins are welcome. So, breeze in from the beach, share a few plates, sip on something spirited – and relax. As owner Harry puts it, 'At its heart, it's about people coming together for a good time, good food and good drinks, with an atmosphere that reflects that.' These are the best new restaurants in Sydney.

Major Spanish airport in chaos as construction sparks huge queues

Travellers were subject to longer than normal security lines at a Majorca airport recently due to construction work, but the Spanish airport authority assures that this was a "one-off incident" Tourists travelling to and from Majorca have been subject to significant crowding and queues at this major airport. The delays are a result of construction work which has rendered some security lanes non-operational. ‌ Early on Sunday, August 3, Palma Airport was experiencing long queues for security and waiting times of fifteen minutes or more. At this time, 20 security lines were in operation, reports by the Majorca Daily Bulletin, ‌ The Aeropuertos Españoles y Navegación Aérea (AENA) airport authority shared that the long queues were a 'one-off incident' and that 'normal operations' soon returned. AENA manages the security check points and makes decisions as to how many are open based on passenger traffic forecasts that the airport management provides. It comes just after a warning to Brit tourists planning all-inclusive holidays to Spain. ‌ AENA insisted that the lanes were operating correctly and that congestion on Sunday was a small blip. "Thousands of passengers pass through the airport every day, and we have not had any incidents at the security checkpoint. What happened was a one-off incident that lasted for a few minutes but was quickly sorted out,' AENA is reported as saying in the Majorca Daily Bulletin. ‌ The airport has multiple measures in place already to reduce wait times while maintaining heightened security. These include security scanners that do not require passengers to remove liquids or computers from their bags. Palma Airport also has an ATRS (Automated Tray Return System) for optimising the flow of security trays—though this is quite standard at all major airports. While Sunday's incident may not have been particularly severe, more delays could be imminent in Majorca as workers from Palma Airport's main handling operator threaten to go on strike. ‌ On the Wednesday after the delay, 150 workers from the handling operator Groundforce, gathered to demand better working conditions and threatened to strike August if their demands were unmet. It comes as the employees council which is made up of Comisiones Obreras (CCOO), Union General de Trabajadores (UGT) and Union Sindical Obrera (USO) had raised concerns about the precarious working conditions they've endured for years. However, two meetings with company management had failed to produce any results, which led to the workers gathering at the airport on Wednesday, August 6. Margarita Alomar, a member of the works council, told local media: "We have reached a point of collapse. We cannot allow the airport to continue with this precarious situation for another season. This is the case at Groundforce, but it is happening at all companies." Alomar warned that if a solution is not put forward, partial stoppages or a strike are on the table. In a bid to avoid the outcome of a walkout, the works council has called for the "real intervention" of the Regional Ministry of Labour, Public Service and Social Dialogue. Employees are open to discussing the situation with the company; however, they are not willing to continue working under the current conditions.
