As the ski season nears its end, Seven Springs celebrates with fan-favorite event
Although spring has technically arrived, it hasn't stopped people from hitting the slopes at Seven Springs Mountain Resort.
Around a dozen skiers and snowboarders braved frigid water Saturday during the ski resort's annual Pond Skim.
The daring contestants, often in outrageous costumes, did their best to cross 90 feet of water without falling in. While some did succeed, many ended their run with a big splash. They were all trying to impress judges to win best skim, best costume or best splash.
Sevens Springs officials say this winter has been 'one for the books,' and hope the slopes will stay open a little longer. They are monitoring conditions and will decide next week if the slopes can open again for another weekend.

Seven taken to hospital from Oakmont Thursday, officials remind people to stay hydrated
The heat on Thursday was a major thing for many people, especially because, other than going into the merch tent and some other tent areas, there were really not many areas to get out of the sun. Officials have been trying to remind people to drink enough water. There are hydration stations all around the different fan zones around the course where you can fill up a water bottle for free. Channel 11 spoke with some fans about the heat today. 'Very hot. Very hot,' said Don Szoszorek of Allison Park. 'It's great, we've never been, it's been an awesome course, great watching everyone play.' 'It's been fun, we've been staying put some times, moving around others, so overall pretty good, hard to find shade, but it is what it is,' said one fan. 'Make sure you take care of yourselves,' said Brian Maloney, Director of Operations for Plum EMS. 'Kind of be prepared, preplan, that's one of the most important things you can do, and have a good time, safely.' EMTs on site have responded to 850 calls this week – most of them minor. Officials tell Channel 11 as of 5:30 p.m. Thursday, they took 13 people to the hospital since Monday — seven of those transports happened Thursday. Warm morning leading to plenty of sun, humid afternoon
It's a bit warmer this morning, with most neighborhoods starting off the day in the low 60s. Expect plenty of sun today along with some cumulus clouds and highs pushing into the upper 80s. Humidity will become more noticeable by this afternoon. Friday won't be as warm, but it will be humid with widely scattered thunderstorms popping up during the afternoon. Severe weather is not expected, but storms may contain heavy rain, given the high moisture content. Off and on showers and storms are expected each day this weekend, although no day will be a washout. With more clouds and rain around, temperatures will struggle to get out of the 70s, but it will remain muggy and a bit unsettled going into early next week.
