Stuart Kettlewell hails Max Stryjek after Kilmarnock's cup win over Livingston
The Pole denied his former club on a number of occasions as Killie took control of Group H.
Stryjek has returned to Scottish football three years after leaving Livi for Wycombe and after a season of largely playing understudy at Jagiellonia Bialystok in his homeland.
Speaking after his first home match in charge, Kettlewell said of his keeper: 'You just see his experience, don't you? He's some character, but he just wants to play football. He wants to get back out on the pitch.
'He's been a guy for a number of years now that's been active in the game, playing, being involved, under pressure, doing well.
'So I think you can kind of see that in his performance. He's been really vibrant about the place and delighted that he performed as well as he did.'
Killie triumphed thanks to a 31st-minute own goal from Mo Sylla, who was unfortunate to see the ball bounce in off him after some poor handling from goalkeeper Jerome Prior.
'I need to rein myself in for being negative, because I absolutely think we can play much better than what we did,' Kettlewell added. 'I think we'll have to over the course of the season.
'What the players showed us was a bit of grit, a bit of determination, to make sure they dragged themselves across the line to get the three points.'
Livingston manager David Martindale was encouraged by some of his team's attacking play and is set to add to his squad in the coming days.
Martindale will attend a work permit hearing on Thursday in a bid to sign 36-year-old DR Congo international striker Jeremy Bokila from Willem II, who were relegated from the Dutch top flight last season.
'I'm pretty confident it will get passed, he is coming from a real top level,' he said.
'And then there's two younger ones who I'm speaking to their parent clubs about. Whether that's going to be loans or permanent deals…
'If I can get those three players in the building this week or early next week, I'll be over the moon with what we've got, although we would need to trim the squad a bit.'

Ryan Hunter haunts old side Brigade and leads Newbuildings to T20 Cup Final joy
The former Ireland Under-19 international top-scored with an unbeaten 66 (five fours, four sixes) as Newbuildings made 145 for four at Ardmore. Hunter shared a third wicket stand of 72 with West Indian international Peat Salmon (44), but the pair hadn't really managed to break the shackles of the Brigade bowlers. Holywood were also in top form as they steamrollered Lisburn to win by nine wickets in their last-four clash at Wallace Park. The game was as good as over as the home side slipped to 15 for six with Player of the Match Erin Bond taking four wickets and Lara Maritz two. Beth Kennedy (21) led a recovery of sorts, but Alex Atkinson claimed three wickets for just five runs, and a final total of 57 was never likely to cause Holywood any trouble. Dutch international Madison Landsman hit an unbeaten 28 from just eight balls (two fours, three sixes) as Holywood eased to victory in just the fifth over. The Final is set for The Lawn on Sunday, August 3, while the two are also embroiled in a title race that looks like going to the wire.

There are plenty of movers and shakers in the transfer market with former Jambos amongst them. One of them could be Uche Ikpeazu, who fired home a late winner for St Johnstone in their latest Premier Sports Cup group stage match, scoring the only goal in a 1-0 away win at Inverness CT. The striker had a knee injury with several complications that meant his St Johnstone debut did not come until April this year. Ikpeazu said at the time of the nightmare scenario: 'Some days you come in and think: 'Where do I go from here?' The club sorted me out to see Dr Iain Murray in Edinburgh and he analysed the knee, had another surgery and found what was going on. An infection was hiding in there and he sorted it out quite quickly. 'That's five operations. If not for Dr Murray and how meticulous he was, I don't know when I would be back. A big thank you to him. He kind of saved me. I didn't think I'd play this season and, to be honest, I didn't know when I'd play. And it was great the club brought in Caitlin (physio Caitlin Wright, who moved from Hamilton mid-season). 'She's very thorough and takes her job seriously, which is important for a physio. You can't say that about everyone. Early mornings, late afternoons. There have been a lot of hard hours. I've missed so much football.'
