Reach consensus first, negotiate MP allocation with DPM Fadillah, Anwar tells Opposition lawmakers
He said that Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof is ready to hear the Opposition, but also said that there must be a consensus among them first.
'There must be consensus among the Opposition MPs. Currently, there is no consensus — some want one thing, some want another, some agree to negotiate, and some do not.
'Therefore, I suggest that an agreement be reached among the Perikatan Nasional MPs first, and then communicate this consensus to DPM (Fadillah), who holds the mandate,' he said during Prime Minister's Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday (Aug 5).
He was responding to a supplementary question by Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim (PN-Arau), who had asked Anwar on whether the government will provide allocations for the Opposition MPs.
'Will you provide justice for all Malaysians by providing allocations for all MPs?' Shahidan asked after highlighting Anwar's achievements in facilitating a ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia.
In a supplementary question, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin (PN-Larut) asked if Anwar was ready to meet with the Opposition to discuss domestic matters.
Anwar said that he was always ready to discuss any issues with the Opposition.
'However, if the issue is about the MP allocations, the mandate is with the Deputy Prime Minister 2 (Fadillah).
'I leave that issue to him. On other matters, I'm ready,' he said.

Gig Workers' Bill 2025 to be tabled in Dewan Rakyat on Aug 14
KUALA LUMPUR: The Gig Workers' Bill 2025 will be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat for its first reading on August 14. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi confirmed the second reading will follow on August 26. He explained that the second reading will involve detailed discussions and debates by MPs from both government and opposition benches. A simple majority vote will be sufficient for the bill to pass, without requiring a two-thirds majority. Ahmad Zahid shared these updates during the *Sembang Santai Teh Tarik Industri Gig* session organised by the Human Resources Ministry (KESUMA). The event was attended by gig industry representatives and stakeholders, including Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong and his deputy Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad. At a press conference, Ahmad Zahid highlighted the need for greater awareness among gig workers regarding social security contributions. He noted that only 188,000 p-hailing and 132,000 e-hailing workers are currently contributing to the Self-Employment Social Security Scheme (SKSPS). This figure represents a small fraction of the 1.12 million workers in Malaysia's gig economy. Sim added that Malaysia will become the 16th country globally to enact legislation specifically protecting gig workers. The International Labour Organisation (ILO) has shown interest in Malaysia's approach, recognising its comprehensive yet balanced framework. Sim revealed that Malaysia's bill was developed after studying legal frameworks in 15 other countries, including Singapore, the Philippines, the US, and India. During his visit to the ILO in Geneva last June, Sim noted strong international interest in Malaysia's gig worker protections. The drafting process involved 40 engagement sessions with around 4,000 stakeholders, including workers, employers, and NGOs. Sim emphasised the government's efforts to balance worker protections with the gig economy's competitiveness. 'We don't want PwDs or people with mental illness to be an excuse if this sort of thing happens again,' he said in his statement. 'I hope the education ministry will take this matter seriously so that it will be a lesson to all, and I urge the ministry to investigate the PwD. Were they physically or mentally disabled? If the person was mentally disabled, why were they allowed to work on school premises?' he added. He then called out politicans who he accused of politicising the issue, and stated that the matter is not a question of politics, but about patriotism for the country. DAP Youth leader called on Akmal to apologise, but he retaliated with a damaging reply In response to Akmal, DAP Youth (DAPSY) leader Yap Yee Vonne urged him to publicy apologise to the PwD who raised the shcool flag upside down and the entire PwD community as well. According to Yee, Akmal had offended and insulted the PwD community with his statement. 'Is Akmal trying to say that PwDs have less value? Less qualified? Less able? He said the insult was aimed at his critics, not the disabled community Akmal later hit back at the DAP Youth leader who accused him of insulting the disabled community. Referring to his Facebook post about giving OKU cards to the DAP Youth leaders, he said the statement was aimed at them and not the PwDs. 'This is why it's important for Malaysians to understand Bahasa Melayu, which is our national language. 'For DAP Youth's information, I said I wanted to give a mirror and an OKU card to DAP Youth, not the disabled community,' he said. Hey.
