Great entertainment in the last pre season friendly before Friday. Lots of work to do before then but promising for both sides.

Chris KirklandFormer Liverpool goalkeeper speaking on BBC Sport Live
When you want to play the attacking football that Liverpool do, you leave gaps at the back and throw players forward.
But every team in the Premier League can harm you.
Gravenberch was a massive miss today, he was my Player of the Season last year.

So now the Community Shield is a proper trophy? That means I have to delete all my anti-Arteta posts … turns out he has won three big trophies - one as recently as 2023.

I don't think there's reason to panic for Liverpool fans right now. There were glimpses in the first half of some fine play but they seemed to run out of steam in the second half.
As Chris says, another striker and a centre half seems to still be needed before the window closes.

We want Isak, we have bid for him, and he wants to come to us.
Normally, when that is the case, a deal gets done.
I want a centre-back and a forward because we are all greedy in this world!

Palace are a very good team and the draw [in normal time] was probably fair.
And it was the same for Liverpool really, we were exciting going forward but slightly weaker in defence.
I would love to see another defender come in. Wirtz, you can see how good he is. Ekitike started well and then tired later on.
It is disappointing to lose but they will be fully focused now on recovering and getting ready for Friday.

Wonderful by Crystal Palace. That might kick-start their summer transfer window too.
There is a big day for them tomorrow, with the verdict of their appeal against being removed from the Europa League, but it seems as though this result will give a bit more optimism around the football club.

Michael Owen names prediction for Premier League Young Player of the Season award... but bizarrely admits he hasn't watched 'enough of him'

Michael Owen, England's youngest-ever Ballon d'Or winner, has chimed in early on the Premier League 's Young Player of the Season race, but admits he's flying blind. Despite being a pundit regularly in the public eye, the former striker conceded he hasn't watched enough to form a full opinion, and instead is leaning on 'sources' for his verdict. Revealing his choice, Owen told the Premier League website: 'I'm joining the hype train really as I haven't seen enough of him to form a strong opinion, but my sources tell me that he is a little bit special so I'll follow that as opposed to my own eyes at the moment. 'We might not see him play an awful lot this season but even glimpses of his talent would be an exciting thing.' The young man in question is Arsenal 's 15-year-old attacking midfielder Max Dowman. He debuted at Under 18 level aged just 13, scoring 17 goals in 22 U18 Premier League matches last season. In September 2024, he became the youngest-ever goal-scorer in the UEFA Youth League. In December 2024, aged just 14, he set a record as the youngest player to feature in Premier League 2 and was soon invited to train with the senior squad, with a view to integrating into the first team for the 2025–26 campaign. Dowman earned his first caps for England at both U16 and U17 level in 2024, before being named in the squad for the 2025 European U17 Championship, where he started all three of England's matches. Dowman rounded off his breakthrough this summer by making first-team pre-season appearances - most notably drawing a penalty in Arsenal's 3–2 win over Newcastle in Singapore In 2024-25, the Premier League Young Player of the Season award was claimed by Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch.

'Le Mans with mowers' - Inside the 12-hour race

BBC Every year in West Sussex, dozens of drivers line up at the start of a prestigious motor race - but the vehicles might be more at home in a back garden, and there is no tarmac in sight. This is Le Mow, an annual 12-hour lawn mower race in Wisborough Green, known as the most affordable way to take part in competitive motorsport. It runs all through the night, from 19:00 BST to 07:00 BST and whoever makes the most laps around the track wins. "I've raced cars on circuits and nothing feels as fast as this, they can get up to 55mph," Callum McIntyre, who is competing in this year's race, told the BBC. Competitors stop every 45 minutes to pull into the pit lane, refuel, and fix damages to the mower - or to the drivers. "I've not had any bad injuries, only broken ribs," Callum's teammate Glyn Saunders, 54, said. Teams are typically made up of three drivers who share the effort throughout the 12 hours. Just finishing the race is a huge achievement. Daz Whitehead, of the team Northerners Kick Grass, is the most successful driver in the history of the race. Last year's victory earned him his seventh overall win, coming 26 years after his first, but this year his goals have changed. "Mark Rostron, who was part of our winning team last year, sadly passed away a couple days after last year's race," Mr Whitehead said. "The idea is just to race in his memory and what will be will be in terms of result." 'No better feeling' Lawn mower racing was dreamt up in 1973 at a pub in Wisborough Green by a group of friends bemoaning the state of motorsport and commercialisation. One suggested they race lawn mowers and reclaim the sport's values. Fifty two years later, this still remains true. "It's one of the cheapest forms of motorsport, which is probably why most people are getting into it," Nick Webb, who is competing for the first time this year, said. "The cart will probably cost you about £1,000, and the entrance fee's £65." Indianna Winchester, 28, competed in motocross when she was younger but when her brothers started a lawn mower team, she could not resist getting involved. "It's a different kind of sport," she said. "The endurance is obviously so much longer and there's no suspension, so the back takes a bit of a beating." Despite previous female-only lawn mower races drumming up interest in the sport, Winchester a is the only woman taking part in this year's race. "It would be nice to see some more women coming through," she said. "I think if you've got the heart for it then why not go for it? There is no better feeling than beating the boys." Alfie Walliss, 23, has lived in Wisborough Green his entire life but only recently made the race something of an annual tradition. "We always saw signs but assumed it was just a cutting grass competition," he said. "Two years ago me and my family popped in and had a great time. We've never looked back." Whether a team comes 1st, 40th or doesn't end up finishing, they are all bonded by the comradery of taking on such a demanding feat. "I can confidentially say I've got 200 friends out there. And they're all friends," Peter Hammerton, the event's president said. "It's my life's hobby and I've never even raced a mower." At the end of a long 12 hours, Bullseye Racing emerged as the winner's of this year's race. Follow BBC Sussex on Facebook, on X, and on Instagram. Fans teased Amorim by saying: 'He's taking lessons from Mikel Arteta.' Another declared: 'How can they prove they can win any game when they lost?' One noted: 'He's giving Erik ten Hag vibes.' Another added: 'Better team and you still lost.' Meanwhile, Amorim defended his decision to play reserve goalkeeper Bayindir after his blunder led to Arsenal's winner. The Turkish international flapped at a Declan Rice corner under pressure from William Saliba and presented Calafiori with a simple finish. Red Devils legend Keane blasted the understudy, who started as regular No 1 Andre Onana was not considered match fit. United boss Amorim and captain Bruno Fernandes stuck up for Bayindir – saying the goal should have been ruled out for a foul. 6 Amorim stuck up for Altay Bayinder after his high-profile error Credit: Getty Boss Amorim said: 'In that moment, you can choose to push a player or to get the ball. So he chooses to get the ball - but he's getting pushed. 'It's hard to accept when you lose a game like this. 'Players are touching the goalkeeper without the idea of going for the ball. So that is not allowed. 'We have referees making meetings that they should be going for the ball, but they are not going for the ball. 'They are looking for the ball. We know what they are doing.' Fernandes said: 'When you touch a goalkeeper when he wants to jump and go for the ball, that makes it difficult for him.' 'Altay was saying the moment he goes to get the ball he gets a touch but we know in the Premier League they don't give much in this type of situation. 'That's even though they had a meeting with us saying that they will whistle more if players block and don't look at the ball.' 6 Roy Keane was scathing in his criticism of Bayindir Credit: Alamy But Keane saw the incident differently, saying: 'If you are the goalkeeper just take control of the six-yard box. 'Keepers and defenders complain all the time that people are in their face - well, get in their face! 'Be aggressive. I have said many times to my goalkeeper: 'Come with violence. Come and be aggressive, that is your area, take control of it'. Asked about his decision to leave Onana on the sidelines, Amorim said it was a fitness issue, adding: 'It's not the case of dropping Ornana. 'It was not putting him in just one week after he returned, without seeing the game, without time, with training. 'I'm happy with the three goalkeepers we have.' Fernandes added: 'They created a lot, they were in the right positions. We know they are dangerous and they are a threat. 'We are very aware of what they can give to the team. It was a good first impression for them but I'm pretty sure they will do much better.' MAN UTD TRANSFER NEWS LIVE: All the latest deals and rumours from Old Trafford
