Robert MacIntyre falls short as JJ Spaun clinches US Open win
That made him the clubhouse leader at one over and he looked set for at least a play-off against Spaun, who had two holes to play.

But the American first sent a stunning 309-yard drive onto the green at the short par-four 17th and two-putted for a birdie before sinking a mammoth 64-foot putt on the 18th green to seal glory.
MacIntyre was watching open-mouthed in the scorer's office and could do nothing but applaud his opponent.
He became a major champion for the first time and was the only man to finish in the red with a score of one under.
While the 17th hole helped Spaun's dreams come true, it killed Tyrell Hatton's.
The Englishman was in a five-way tie for the lead at one over when he found himself still in the rough after three shots. He bogeyed that and then the 18th to finish three over.

Spaun may consider the thunderstorm at around 4pm local time (9pm BST) to be divine intervention.
Before the heavens opened at Oakmont and forced a 96-minute delay, the first-round leader was five over for his round after eight holes.
But while leaders Sam Burns and Adam Scott floundered in the soaking conditions after the resumption, Spaun found his best game and birdies at the 12th, 14th, 17th and 18th took him to glory.
Indeed, Burns and Scott could not cope after the restart as they seemed in competition to see who could find the worst positions in the rough.
Burns was the overnight leader at four under but his round disintegrated after the resumption, with two double bogeys in an ugly round of eight over par to finish tied for seventh on four over.
Scott, hoping to win a major for the first time in 12 years, fared even worse, going round in 79.
Jon Rahm and Scottie Scheffler ended up tied for seventh after impressive rounds, while Rory McIlroy produced his best round of a difficult week to finish on seven over.

Anthony Joshua's trainer slams Jake Paul challenge as 'deluded' as fight edges closer
Anthony Joshua is being heavily linked with a fight against Jake Paul in the near future and the Brit's trainer, Ben Davison, has been speaking about the potential showdown Anthony Joshua 's trainer Ben Davison reckons Jake Paul is "deluded" for believing he can step into the ring and take on the two-time heavyweight champion. Joshua hasn't fought since enduring a devastating knockout loss to Daniel Dubois. It appeared likely that the duo would clash again straight away, but 'AJ' required additional time to heal after sustaining some knocks during their heavyweight showdown. The former two-time world titleholder is currently recovering from elbow surgery and is anticipated to make his return later this year. Remarkably, the leading contender to face Joshua in his comeback bout is the YouTuber-turned-boxer. A clash between the two could happen as soon as next year. Paul is so eager to get in the ring with the Brit that he's even prepared to accept just a ONE PER CENT share of the fight purse. A sports finance specialist has forecast that a potential bout between them could generate $40million (£30m), reports All Out Fighting. With millions worldwide expected to watch, it's hardly shocking that both fighters would be handsomely compensated for their participation. Joshua's trainer has hit back at Paul after the American repeatedly challenged 'AJ' to a fight, asserting that his star boxer could easily handle the social media star. Davison and Joshua have been a team for nearly two years, forming a strong bond. When questioned about a potential showdown between the 35-year-old and the 'Problem Child,' Davison told the Stomping Ground: "You cannot judge people from where they have come from because everybody gets to certain different places in life and reaches the top all with different walks, different backgrounds." The renowned boxing coach acknowledged Paul's success before tearing into the internet sensation. "Yeah he is (successful) in lots of different fields, but like I said, Anthony Joshua is probably the most dangerous man, or one of the most dangerous men in the sport. To be stepping in the ring with him, I just think it is deluded from Jake Paul." He added: "I have no idea (if Paul can win) but I can categorically tell you that he is not winning that. He cannot win that fight, but AJ could win that fight and do whatever he wanted to do with him." Davison then reflected on former UFC fighter Francis Ngannou 's bout with Tyson Fury, arguing that the Cameroon heavyweight was more suited to fight Joshua before once again tearing into the American. "Do you think Jake Paul would go 10 rounds with Tyson Fury? No. Francis Ngannou did. "But look what happened there with Francis Ngannou. Francis Ngannou was more qualified to box Anthony Joshua than Jake Paul and look what happened there. That is one of the most durable men on the planet, Francis Ngannou. Never mind and undersized Jake Paul." When is Anthony Joshua's next fight? With Joshua currently recovering from surgery on his elbow, the British heavyweight is hoping to make his comeback before the year is out. His promoter, Eddie Hearn, has recently disclosed that 'AJ' is now looking to move forward with his career after repeatedly chasing a clash with Fury, though he remains optimistic of eventually settling their differences with the 'Gypsy King' before retiring. Speaking to Sky Sports about Joshua's future, Hearn said: "Yeah, good, he had that operation recently... that elbow surgery, which went very well. You will see him return in October, November or December."

Man Utd accept Roma's transfer offer for 'bomb squad' member Jadon Sancho
Manchester United have accepted Roma's transfer offer for their 'bomb squad' member Jadon Sancho, according to reports. The two clubs have reached an agreement on a deal worth €19m (£16.4m) plus €5m (£4.3m) in add-ons, totalling £20.7m, Sky in Italy have reported. It's unclear if the move will get over the line, though, with Serie A side Roma having been unable to agree personal terms with Sancho so far. Sancho is said to have turned down Roma on Monday but the Italian club are hoping to change his mind before the summer transfer window closes. United are attempting to convince Sancho into joining Roma too – having deemed him surplus to requirements at Old Trafford. Metro's new weekly football newsletter: In The Mixer. Exclusive analysis, FPL tips and transfer talk sent straight to your inbox every Friday – sign up, it's an open goal. Sancho is a member of Ruben Amorim's 'bomb squad' and United are keen to offload him so they can focus on bringing new players to the club. Leon Bailey, who has just joined Roma on loan from Aston Villa, is a friend of Sancho and is also trying to convince the winger to join him in Rome. In football, the term 'bomb squad' describes a group of players excluded from the first team, often made to train apart from the main squad or with youth and development sides. Clubs frequently use this tactic to apply pressure on unwanted players to secure moves elsewhere. Sancho has scored 12 goals and provided six assists across 83 games for United since he joined the club in a £73m deal from Borussia Dortmund. The Englishman has been loaned back to Dortmund and has also spent time on loan at Chelsea since he moved to United four years ago. The 25-year-old could now be heading to Roma if the club can agree personal terms with the player but it's said they 'won't be waiting for long' for him to make a final decision. Sancho has already snubbed a move to Turkish side Besiktas, rejecting the chance to work with United legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Meanwhile, Roma are interested in a deal to bring in a second member of United's 'bomb squad', Tyrell Malacia, according to The Athletic. United want to sell Malacia permanently but it's said that a loan 'cannot be ruled out' for the left-back. More Trending Malacia has attracted interest from Porto too – as United look to offload the 26-year-old after recruiting Diego Leon this summer. The other two players in United's 'bomb squad' are Alejandro Garnacho and Antony. Garnacho looks like he could be on his way to Chelsea while Antony has been linked with a permanent move to Real Betis after his loan spell at the Spanish club last season. Marcus Rashford was in United's 'bomb squad' before he was loaned to Barcelona, with a buy option included in the deal. Dundee Utd knock back Will Ferry MLS transfer bid as Tannadice club eye James Penrice style fee
The Major Soccer League transfer window closes this week and it remains to be seen if the American side comes back in Dundee United have knocked back a major six-figure bid for Will Ferry. Record Sport understands the offer has come in from a Major League Soccer side but is well short of United's valuation. It remains to be seen if the club from the Western Conference side comes back in with an increased offer before the MLS transfer window closes on Thursday night. The Tannadice club is under no financial pressure to sell and would only let one of their prize assets go if they were to receive a significant offer. Ferry was ranked as one of the standout full-backs in Scotland last season when it came down to the data analytics, while he also holds up well in leagues across Europe. and Hibs sold Lewis Miller to Blackburn for a deal that could net them £1.5million. Ferry is very much at that same level and it would take a decent seven figure bid to even get United to the table. Jim Goodwin 's side are also in a good place because Ferry is still under contract for this season and next. The 24-year-old has also been named as United's vice captain and also skippered them through their Conference League campaign. Ferry's form has also not gone unnoticed by Ireland and he is very much on the radar for a full call-up. He has previously been capped at under-21 level but new national coach Heimir Hallgrimsson has had him scouted and he is very much in his thinking. Ferry has been something of a coup since Goodwin signed the wing back from Cheltenham last summer and he was a key figure in their fourth place finish.
