
Bengaluru metro's Yellow Line gets safety clearance from CMRS for operations
Speaking to The Hindu, Yashwanth Chavan, chief public relations officer of BMRCL, confirmed that the CMRS has issued the mandatory safety certification necessary for passenger services to begin on the new route.
Another senior BMRCL official said that the clearance comes with certain conditions, which must be fulfilled before commercial operations can commence. 'The CMRS typically makes a series of observations and recommendations during inspection. Once we comply with all the directives, we will submit a compliance report. Only after receiving final clearance can passenger operations begin,' the official told The Hindu.
The CMRS inspection, led by A.M. Chowdhary, took place over three days starting July 22. The review covered all aspects of safety and readiness, including power supply systems, signalling, tracks and viaducts, curves, fire safety measures, passenger information systems, and amenities at the metro stations.
Will PM Modi launch new line?
While a formal date for the line's inauguration has not yet been finalised, BMRCL is working towards an August 15 launch. 'We have informed both the State and Central governments about receiving safety clearance, as per protocol,' another official said.
Regarding reports that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to attend the inauguration, an official said it is subject to his schedule. However, there is no official confirmation of his participation yet.
Initially, limited services are expected, with three driverless trains operating at a 20-minute frequency. BMRCL plans to gradually scale up to full-fledged operations with peak hour frequencies of five minutes or less by March 2026.
Delayed project
The Yellow Line passes through several high-density areas, including Central Silk Board, HSR Layout, and Electronics City, making it a vital corridor for commuters and tech workers in the city. The line was originally scheduled to open in 2021, but missed multiple deadlines, the most recent being a revised target of June 2024.
Delays were primarily due to complications in procuring rolling stock. In 2019, BMRCL awarded a ₹1,578-crore contract to Chinese firm CRRC to supply 216 coaches and set up a manufacturing unit in India. However, CRRC failed to meet contractual obligations, severely hampering the project's timeline. This led BMRCL to issue several warnings and explore invoking a ₹372-crore bank guarantee.
To revive progress, CRRC partnered with Kolkata-based Titagarh Rail Systems Limited. This collaboration allowed deliveries to resume, though at a slower pace than originally planned. So far, BMRCL has received three train sets for the Yellow Line. A fourth train is currently undergoing trials at the Titagarh facility and is expected to be shipped by July 28, reaching Bengaluru around August 12.

'This historic visit of the Indian naval ships and the upcoming maiden maritime cooperation activity collectively set a positive tone for the state visit of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to India next week, underscoring the deepening partnership and expanding cooperation between our two nations,' said Philippine national security officials, diplomats, defense attaches, and other guests, at a reception aboard the INS Shakti (A57) on July 31. The Indian Navy ships guided missile destroyer INS Delhi (D61), fleet tanker INS Shakti and anti-submarine warfare corvette INS Kiltan (P30) were docked in Manila on July 30 for a port visit. Meanwhile, Surveillance ship INS Sandhayak (Yard 3025) arrived in the Philippine capital on August 1. 'The visit of the Indian naval ships to the Philippines is a powerful testament to the enduring friendship and growing maritime cooperation between the two countries. It also symbolises our shared commitment to the freedom of navigation and a free, open and rules-based Indo-Pacific region,' Jain said. In light of this, Armed Forces of the Philippines chief Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. described the upcoming 'coordinated patrol' as 'a clear demonstration of our mutual resolve to safeguard freedom of navigation and uphold the law of the sea.' It is important to note that the island nation has carried out similar patrols with the United States, Australia, Japan, France and Canada. Amphenol nears $10-billion deal to buy CommScope's broadband connectivity and cable unit: Report
Connecticut-based Amphenol is nearing a deal to buy communication network infrastructure provider CommScope Holding 's connectivity and cable unit, in a deal valued at roughly $10 billion including debt, the Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday, citing people familiar with the matter. The transaction could be completed as soon as Monday, assuming no last-minute snags, the newspaper reported. In May, Bloomberg News reported that North Carolina-based CommScope was exploring a sale of its broadband connectivity and cable solutions division, its largest unit by sales and operating income. CommScope's wireless network provides infrastructure for mobile networks , while its antenna systems unit provides services for cellular infrastructure inside venues, campuses and enterprises. Connecticut-based Amphenol struck a deal last year to buy CommScope's outdoor wireless network and its distributed antenna systems businesses for $2.1 billion in cash. Reuters could not immediately verify the report. Amphenol and CommScope Holding did not immediately respond to Reuters' request for comment.

Parth Electricals & Engineering raises Rs 13.8 cr from anchor investors ahead of IPO
Parth Electricals & Engineering, an electrical components manufacturer, on Sunday said it has raised Rs 13.8 crore from anchor investors ahead of the opening of its Rs 49.72 crore initial public offering on August 4. ADVERTISEMENT Capri Global Capital, Beacon Stone Capital, and IndiaMax Investment Fund are among the investors which participated in the anchor investor round, the company said in a statement. The company has fixed the IPO price at Rs 160-170 per share. The Rs 49.72 crore initial public offering (IPO) will hit the capital market on August 4 and concludes on August 6. The shares will be listed on the NSE SME's platform Emerge. The public issue is entirely a fresh issue of 29.25 lakh shares worth Rs 49.72 crore. The company had mobilised Rs 12 crore through a pre-IPO placement. The net proceeds from the issue worth Rs 20 crore will be used towards funding of establishing GIS manufacturing facility in Gujarat, Rs 19 crore for setting up a new manufacturing facility in Odisha, Rs 15 crore for payment of debt and the rest will be used for the general corporate purposes. "From 900 RMUs two years ago, we now produce 3,000 annually. We're also manufacturing around 100 compact sub-stations every year. ADVERTISEMENT "The company currently operates out of a facility in Vadodara, Gujarat, and is investing Rs 40 crore to set up two new plants -- one in Vadodara for gas-insulated switchgear and another in Khurda, Odisha -- to cater to high-growth regions such as eastern India," Parth Electricals & Engineering's Managing Director Jignesh Patel, said. Parth Electricals' order book stood at Rs 140 crore, buoyed by a recent Rs 48 crore contract from Waaree Energies for a 6.5 GW solar project in Navsari. With growing demand from utilities like Tata Odisha, TP Western Odisha Distribution Ltd (TPWODL) , and Damodar Valley Corporation, the company is also doubling down on talent, aiming to expand its workforce from 250 to 550. ADVERTISEMENT The Vadodara-based company's clientele includes Aditya Birla, UltraTech Cement, L&T, Reliance Industries, Adani, Tata Power, Schneider Electric, BHEL, Tata Steel, Siemens, GFL, and Jindal Steel & Power.
