Youngstown Area Jewish Federation speaks out against Colorado mall ‘terror attack'
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — The Youngstown Area Jewish Federation released a statement Sunday night in response to what the FBI is describing as a 'targeted terror attack' at an outdoor mall in Boulder, Colorado.
According to the Associated Press, several people were injured and possibly burned, and a suspect was taken into custody after an attack at a popular pedestrian mall where demonstrators with a volunteer group called Run for Their Lives had gathered to raise awareness for Israeli hostages who remain in Gaza.
The Associated Press said video from the scene showed a witness shouting, 'He's right there. He's throwing Molotov cocktails,' as a police officer with his gun advanced toward a bare-chested suspect with containers in each hand.

The Youngstown Area Jewish Federation is horrified to learn of the brutal firebombing in Colorado during a march for Israeli hostages, especially on the evening of Shavout, a two-day Jewish holiday that commemorates the date when God gave the Torah to the Jewish people at Mount Sinai over 3,000 years ago. Our hearts go out to everyone involved and we pray for the quick recovery of those injured. We don't yet have all the details of what happened, though video footage of the suspect has emerged suggesting extreme Jewish hatred as a motive. We will keep our community up-to-date as we learn more.

San Diego authorities arrest 3 noncitizens allegedly involved in transporting more than $5M worth of meth
Federal and local authorities in San Diego arrested three men in the U.S. illegally – two from Mexico and one from El Salvador – after they allegedly transported nearly 8,000 pounds of methamphetamine worth more than $5 million earlier this week. The incident took place on Monday around 7 p.m. during a joint narcotics investigation in the South Bay region, the San Diego County Sheriff's Office announced Thursday evening. SDCSO detectives and U.S. Border Patrol agents observed three vehicles they believed were being loaded with bundles of drugs. A federal complaint filed by the U.S. Attorney's Office of the Southern District of California said the vehicles were being loaded in a parking lot on Otay Mesa Road. Two of those vehicles were driven toward a motel in San Ysidro, while the third vehicle went to a motel in Chula Vista, the sheriff's office said. All three drivers were ultimately arrested. They were identified by the Justice Department as 27-year-old Erick Omar Arriola, of El Salvador, and Mexican nationals Eugenio Lizama, 35, and Baltazar Rodriguez Reyes, 49. Arriola is a felon convicted of driving under the influence, battery of a spouse and false imprisonment, the DOJ said. When authorities searched their vehicles, they found a total of 61 bundles of methamphetamine, weighing more than 7,700 pounds and valued at around $5.5 million. "It was one of the biggest seizures of methamphetamine in 2025 in the Southern District of California, and the most significant so far by the new Homeland Security Task Force San Diego, which was recently established by the Department of Justice and Department of Homeland Security at the request of President Trump," the DOJ said. All three men were booked into the San Diego Central Jail and face charges related to conspiracy, transportation and possession of controlled substances for sales.

2 men, 1 dog survive drive into Whiskeytown Lake near dam; Kennedy Memorial Drive reopens
Kennedy Memorial Drive reopened just before 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, after Whiskeytown National Recreation Area staff and local law enforcement pulled a vehicle out of Whiskeytown Lake. The park closed the road between East Beach and Glory Hole Spillway at 1:15 p.m., park staff posted on social media. The road stayed closed for almost four hours while a dive team located, then towed "a private vehicle out of the bottom of the lake," according to the announcement.
