DKSH Business Unit Healthcare has reached a significant milestone in building a more sustainable healthcare supply chain by successfully tracking carbon emissions across its value chain through a collaboration with UOB FinLab's GreenTech Accelerator and Smart Tradzt in Thailand. This achievement also marks the implementation of a reusable cold-chain packaging solution. The initiative underscores DKSH Healthcare's ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility and its proactive approach to advancing sustainable business practices.
BANGKOK, Aug. 20, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- DKSH Business Unit Healthcare has achieved a significant milestone by successfully measuring Scope 3 carbon emissions within its supply chain in Thailand. This initiative was accomplished through a collaboration with UOB FinLab's GreenTech Accelerator and Smart Tradzt, a Singapore-based sustainability technology provider.
Scope 3 emissions, representing indirect greenhouse gas emissions from sources across the value chain, constitute a substantial proportion of the total healthcare and logistics emissions. Accurately tracking these emissions is important but remains a complex task.
Recognizing this challenge, DKSH Business Unit Healthcare tapped on UOB FinLab's GreenTech Accelerator, a regional program which resulted in 16 successful pilots across Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand between corporations and innovative startups to address regional sustainability issues in the areas of energy, sustainability reporting and carbon management, circular economy and waste management, food and agriculture, sustainable cities and urban planning. UOB FinLab provided financial support, mentorship and access to community networks for Smart Tradzt, reducing costs for DKSH to undertake this comprehensive assessment.
The collaboration saw DKSH Healthcare Thailand partner with Smart Tradzt to utilize their digital platform for executing a Life Cycle Analysis (LCA), providing a comprehensive view of the environmental impact of its operations and suggestions on sustainable processes optimizations. The analysis adhered to internationally recognized standards, including the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol and PACT Methodology, covering all life cycle stages from material sourcing to manufacturing, distribution, product use, and disposal.
Despite facing operational challenges such as limited LCA awareness from small scale suppliers resulting in more limited data availability and limited visibility into end-user disposal practices, the LCA showed clear results – DKSH Healthcare's reusable cold-chain packaging solution, B-Box, demonstrated a significant reduction in carbon emissions over its lifecycle. Specifically, its reusable B-40 box recorded emissions of almost 27.19 kg CO₂e per box over five years, establishing a clear advantage over single-use Styrofoam alternative which recorded roughly 5.03 kg CO₂e per box.
Building upon these results, DKSH Business Unit Healthcare will be able to more effectively disclose the impact of avoided carbon emissions as it expands its reusable packaging to other markets. This increasing transparency across the value chain is a milestone benchmark for what can be explored across the region. Ultimately, sustainability tracking initiatives will assist clients and partners in addressing growing regulatory and stakeholder demands for accurate environmental reporting and sustainability accountability across value chains.
Bijay Singh, Global Head Business Unit Healthcare, DKSH, commented: "Our collaboration with Smart Tradzt and UOB FinLab details the importance we place on the topic of sustainability. Even as we continue to advance our goal of achieving equitable healthcare across Asia Pacific, we are committed to keeping our supply chain transparent and accountable. Scope 3 carbon emissions remain complex and require deep value chain collaboration. As healthcare partners, this initiative not only help us in meeting the growing regulations, they also let our clients and partners see tangible datapoints which can be used for their own reporting. Whilst challenging, this step is a showcase for our commitment to value chain transparency and sustainability."
Shannon Lung, Head of UOB FinLab, added: "At UOB FinLab, we are proud to serve as a community enabler, helping companies like DKSH Healthcare accelerate their sustainability journeys. Through our GreenTech Accelerator and other outreach programs, we connect corporates with innovative solutions that drive measurable impact. This collaboration is a testament to how targeted support and strategic partnerships can empower businesses to meet their sustainability goals, enhance operational transparency, and set new benchmarks for environmental accountability across ASEAN."

India's Modi meets China's top diplomat as Asian powers rebuild ties

NEW DELHI (AP) — Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met China's top diplomat on Tuesday and hailed the 'steady progress' made in improving the bilateral relationship after a yearslong standoff between the nuclear-armed Asian powers. Modi also noted 'respect for each other's interests and sensitiveness' in a statement on social media after meeting Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. China's Foreign Ministry said the countries have entered a 'steady development track" and the countries should 'trust and support' each other. Wang arrived in India on Monday and has met with Foreign Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar as well as National Security Adviser Ajit Doval about the countries' disputed border in the Himalayan mountains. India's Foreign Ministry said Wang's meeting with Doval discussed 'de-escalation, delimitation and boundary affairs.' Relations plummeted in 2020 after security forces clashed along the border. The violence, the worst in decades, left 20 Indian soldiers and four Chinese soldiers dead, freezing high-level political engagements. 'The setbacks we experienced in the past few years were not in the interest of the people of our two countries. We are heartened to see the stability that is now restored in the borders,' Wang said Monday. Modi emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and tranquility on the border and reiterated India's commitment to a 'fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable resolution of the boundary question,' his office said in a statement. The rebuilding of India-China ties coincides with friction between New Delhi and Washington after US President Donald Trump imposed steep tariffs on India, a longtime ally seen as a counterbalance against China's influence in Asia. India is part of the Quad security alliance with the US, along with Australia and Japan. The chill in relations after the deadly clash in 2020 between troops in the Ladakh region affected trade, diplomacy and air travel, as both sides deployed tens of thousands of security forces in border areas. Some progress has been made since then. Last year, India and China agreed to a pact on border patrols and withdrew additional forces along some border areas. Both countries continue to fortify their border by building roads and rail networks. In recent months, the countries have increased official visits and discussed easing some trade restrictions, movement of citizens and visas for businesspeople. In June, Beijing allowed pilgrims from India to visit holy sites in Tibet. Both sides are working to restore direct flights. Last week, the spokesman for India's Foreign Ministry, Randhir Jaiswal, said India and China were in discussions to restart trade through three points along their 3,488-kilometer border. 'Settling the boundary issue between the two countries requires political compromise at the highest political level,' said Manoj Joshi, a fellow at the Observer Research Foundation, a New Delhi-based think tank. He also served as a member of the advisory board for India's National Security Council. The thaw between Beijing and New Delhi began last October when Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping met at a summit of emerging economies in Russia. It was the first time the leaders had spoken in person since 2019. Modi is set to meet Xi when he travels to China late this month — his first visit in seven years — to attend the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, a regional grouping formed by China, Russia and others to counter US influence in Asia. Earlier this year, Xi called for India and China's relations to take the form of a 'dragon-elephant tango' — a dance between the emblematic animals of the countries. Last month, India's external affairs minister visited Beijing in his first trip to China since 2020. The renewed engagement comes as New Delhi's ties with Trump are fraying. Washington has imposed a 50 percent tariff on Indian goods, which includes a penalty of 25 percent for purchasing Russian crude oil. The tariffs take effect Aug. 27. India has shown no sign of backing down, instead signing more agreements with Russia to deepen economic cooperation. Trump's renewed engagement with India's arch rival, Pakistan, has also encouraged New Delhi's overtures to China, said Lt. Gen. D.S. Hooda, who led the Indian military's Northern Command from 2014 to 2016. In June, Trump hosted Pakistan's army chief for a White House lunch and later announced an energy deal with Islamabad to jointly develop the country's oil reserves. Both followed Trump's claims of brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan after the two sides traded military strikes in May. That clash saw Pakistan use Chinese-made military jets and missiles against India. 'China is heavily invested in Pakistan and, practically speaking, you can't have any expectation that Beijing will hold back support to Islamabad," Hooda said. 'But you can't have two hostile neighbors on your borders and simultaneously deal with them also.'

Delska's New 10MW Data Center in Latvia Achieves Tier III Design Certification

RIGA, Latvia, Aug. 19, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Northern European data center operator Delska's upcoming facility, EU North Riga LV DC1, has been awarded the prestigious Uptime Institute Tier III Design Certification—an important milestone ahead of its planned launch at the end of this year. Once operational, it will be one of the greenest data centers in the Baltic region. The Tier III Design certification ensures the facility meets strict standards for redundancy, safety, and uninterrupted service, guaranteeing 99.982% uptime. "In a world where even a few seconds of downtime can cost thousands, Tier III means our infrastructure stays online—even during planned maintenance," said Delska CEO Andris Gailitis. Addressing power shortages in major European hubs, the 10 MW site, offering up to 250 kW per rack, is built for next-generation workloads, including AI and high-performance computing (HPC). Its modular 6,000 m² layout is fully scalable, with the ability to expand the data center campus site up to 30 MW. Sustainability is at the core of the design. The facility will run entirely on 100% wind energy, with backup generators powered by Neste MY renewable diesel. Targeting a PUE of just 1.3, it will use advanced free-cooling systems, hot-aisle containment, an effective Weiss Technik wall cooling system and Trane Turbocor-based chillers. It supports both air cooling and high-density direct-to-chip cooling. Delska also aims for LEED green building certification, an achievement held by fewer than 15 buildings in Latvia. Upon completion, LV DC1 will undergo Tier III Facility certification to confirm its construction and operations meet the same high standard as its design. This will be Delska's third Tier III-certified data center and sixth overall, joining two Tier III Facility-certified sites in Lithuania. Plans include an additional Lithuanian data center and another facility in the region, strengthening Delska's Baltic data centers' network. About Delska Delska is one of the largest data center operators in the Baltics, with over 26 years in IT and network infrastructure. Operating fully green Tier III and PCI-DSS certified facilities in Riga and Vilnius with 19 MW capacity, Delska also maintains points of presence in Frankfurt, Amsterdam, and Stockholm. Its portfolio includes cloud, server rental, network, security, and managed services. Since being acquired by Quaero European Infrastructure Fund II in 2020, Delska has significantly expanded its infrastructure and improved energy efficiency. In 2024, DEAC (Latvia) and DLC (Lithuania) merged under a new Delska brand, and this year RackRay (Lithuania) joined the group of companies.
