Alexander Isak NOT on Newcastle pre-season tour as Liverpool transfer target stays home
It comes just days after Newcastle boss Eddie Howe sent the striker home because of the 'speculation' surrounding his future. Isak had been involved in the Magpies' training camp in Austria.
Newcastle insist that the Swede isn't for sale and would demand at least £125million - a British record - if they were forced to sell. Isak was left out of Newcastle's squad as they faced Celtic in their second pre-season friendly on Saturday, as they suffered a 4-0 thrashing.
Howe's men are due to play Arsenal in Singapore at 12:30pm on Sunday. Newcastle will then play two matches in South Korea, facing the K-League All-stars and Tottenham.
But Isak won't be involved, with the club reportedly concerned over how the long-haul flight could impact the Liverpool target's injury. Isak has also been linked with a big-money move to Saudi Arabian heavyweights Al-Hilal.
Following the Celtic defeat, Howe explained: "It was my decision. He travelled back to Glasgow with us but I decided to send him home due to the speculation around him.
"The last thing he wanted is to be sat in the stand watching, that wasn't fair to him. But I'm confident he will be a Newcastle player come the end of the window.
"It's difficult for me to give 100 per cent clarity on any player. Alex is happy at Newcastle, he loves the players, the staff, the team. I'm confident he'll be here at the start of the season.
"Yes, I've had discussions with him but that's not abnormal. I respect a player's career and how short it is. Alex has been really good, he's trained really well and I realise there'll be noise around him."
Isak also didn't feature when the Magpies hosted non-league side Carlisle United in a behind-closed-doors friendly prior to their visit to Austria.

Newcastle have not held contract talks with Alexander Isak
Eddie Howe has revealed no contract talks have been held with Alexander Isak but hopes to keep the striker at Newcastle. Isak has been at the centre of transfer speculation over the summer window and it was reported earlier in the week that he has asked to explore a move away. The 25-year-old did not travel with the Magpies for their pre-season tour of Asia, with the club stating that he missed out due to a 'minor thigh injury'. Hours later, reports emerged that Isak – who has been linked with a move to Liverpool in recent weeks – had told club executives he wanted to explore the possibility of a transfer away from St James' Park. Isak missed Newcastle's first pre-season fixture against Celtic last weekend and ahead of their friendly against Arsenal on Sunday, Howe provided an update on the striker's situation. 'Of course there's things going on behind the scenes. He will be aware he's in the news every day, and I'm sure that's not easy for anyone in that situation,' the Newcastle boss told reporters. 'Conversations that happen between Alex and the club or Alex and myself will stay private for obvious reasons. We do share a really good relationship with him. 'He's been magnificent for us since he's joined. He's very popular in the dressing room and we'd love him to continue his journey at Newcastle.' Howe also added that there are no contract talks taking place with Isak, who has three years left on his existing deal. 'As far as I'm aware, I don't think there are any contract talks taking place at the moment. That'll be for a later date potentially,' said Howe, as reported by the Daily Mail and the Athletic. 'I think for now, with the situation as it is and the state of the window, in the sense that it's hurtling towards the end of the window very quickly from our perspective, there's still so much that could happen.' Howe confirmed that Isak is currently in Newcastle being assessed, adding at a press conference reported on the club website: 'With his injury, I've got no major update on that. He first mentioned his thigh just before the Celtic game and we assumed it would a be very minimal injury, nothing too serious. 'Then on the Monday after the Celtic game, he went in from training very early, didn't feel right, so he's now in Newcastle getting that injury assessed. 'Hopefully he'll be back soon playing in the black and white shirt. That's what we all want to see.' Isak joined Newcastle in August 2022 and has continued to flourish during his time on Tyneside. Last year's campaign saw the Sweden forward fire 27 goals for the Magpies as they lifted the Carabao Cup and secured Champions League football with a fifth-placed finish in the Premier League.

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi sparks anxious Rangers injury wait as £10m man to get quick answer over Crystal Palace scare
The Ibrox side are keen to sign the England youth international on an initial loan with a £10million buy option Wanted man Jesurun Rak-Sakyi faces a quick-fire call over the severity of the injury he suffered in Crystal Palace 's friendly win over Crawley. Rangers are keen to sign the England youth international on an initial loan with a £10million buy option. The Eagles head to Austria this week as boss Oliver Glasner looks to sharpen the FA Cup winners with a double friendly against Augsburg on Friday ahead of their much-anticipated Community Shield showdown with Liverpool on August 10. Rak-Sakyi went down on Friday night and he was substituted in the 89th minute after coming on midway through the second half. The winger spent two minutes receiving treatment before he walked off the pitch. The setback came hours after Rangers boss Russell Martin admitted he's a player both he and the club's decision makers covet Martin, speaking to Sky Sports News, said: "He's a player I like. We tried to take him to Southampton, it didn't quite happen. I like him and the recruitment staff like him, but how far that's gone... I'm not too sure. "He's a really good player. We look at all sorts of different profiles that we think can help the team, it doesn't necessarily have to be one type of profile. Players are very different. "We just need the ones with the right mentality who are desperate to come and play here. We'll see where we end up in four weeks' time." Alexander Isak to Liverpool twist as Eddie Howe drops huge Newcastle transfer bombshell
Eddie Howe has spoken out on the future of Alexander Isak at Newcastle and admits that the hierarchy will ultimately make a decision on whether or not to sell the Swede Newcastle boss Eddie Howe insists the club have not put a timescale on a decision regarding Alexander Isak's future but confessed that the Liverpool target could leave the club this summer. The Swedish striker, who has become the team's leading light over his three years at St James' Park, has expressed a desire to explore his options away from the Magpies. It means Newcastle, despite winning a trophy and qualifying for the Champions League, could lose their best player. If Isak were to leave it would require a British-record transfer fee to tempt Newcastle and, currently, Liverpool are the only Premier League club to come forward. There is also interest in Saudi Arabia. Isak just enjoyed his best season to date in front of goal but is not part of the team's pre-season preparations at present, largely down to the speculation surrounding his future. Howe claimed there would be no immediate decision made as the club weigh up what's best in the long run. He said: "I wouldn't put a timescale on it. I think with these situations it has to be right for the football club, and everything then is taken into context below that. "But the club will make the right decision with all the information that it has, and ultimately to try and move the club forward in whatever way that is. Then it's up to us to make good decisions the other way and try and improve the squad as best we can. That's what we're trying to do, regardless of Alex's situation. "But I think there's a wider picture here. There's a whole football club that has to make the decision. The ownership, together with the board of directors, especially with the money involved in modern day transfers. The manager of course has an opinion, but ultimately the decision will rest with the board." He added: "Of course there's things going on behind the scenes (with Alex). He will be aware he's in the news every day, and I'm sure that's not easy for anyone in that situation. Conversations that happen between Alex and the club or Alex and myself will stay private for obvious reasons. We do share a really good relationship with him. "He's been magnificent for us and he's very popular in the dressing room. We'd love him to continue his journey at Newcastle. I certainly hope he stays. And I said (last weekend) I was confident that he'd stay. I don't see anything that's going to change that opinion of mine at the moment, but it's football and who knows what the future may bring. "All I would say on the broader picture is whatever happens has to be right for Newcastle. We're in a very strong position financially. We're determined to be successful. We are ambitious. We've got a great season ahead of us. We need to add to the squad and continue to improve, and the journey can continue in an upward trajectory.' Liverpool have just spent £79m to land Hugo Ekitike as their new No 9 from Frankfurt, but that may not stop them going back into the market to explore a deal for Isak. Already the Reds have spent more than £200m but still have the scope to spend considerably more if needed. It would be a huge blow to Newcastle, who have made no secret about their ambitions. They've been able to invest gradually since their Saudi owners came in and have retained their top talent up until now.
