Addressing the reporters at the BJP office, he said the Union Ministry of Tourism had sanctioned `450 crore for seven projects in the State, and discussions are ongoing with the Chief Minister to boost the irrigation and tourism sectors. On the occasion, Shekhawat promised complete Centre's support for the initiatives. On Kashmir, he said tourism has significantly increased, particularly in Pahalgam, and the region is now safe for travellers, forecasting a tourism surge in the next 15 days.
Reaffirming the BJP's commitment to Andhra Pradesh, Shekhawat emphasised job creation, infrastructure, and honouring the sacrifices of those who fought the Emergency.
During the press briefing, the Union Minister slammed former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi for imposing emergency on June 25, 1975, calling it the 'harshest assault' on Indian democracy. He said Sanjay Gandhi's actions during that period bordered on dictatorship.
Praising the resistance led by Jayaprakash Narayan and Atal Bihari Vajpayee, crediting their movement with restoring democracy, Shekhawat lamented that the Congress party has never apologised for the Emergency and urged youth to understand its historical impact to safeguard democratic values.

New Delhi, Aug 12 (UNI) The Lok Sabha today passed the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2025 by voice vote. The Bill aims to ensure the benefits of the mining sector reach the common people, introduce transparency in the allocation of mines and promote development in the sector. While presenting the bill in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister for Coal and Mines, G Kishan Reddy, said the proposed amendments aim to boost employment opportunities and ensure that tribals and those linked to the mining sector directly benefit from the reforms. He pointed out that prior to the Modi government, mine allocations were done with minimal oversight, allowing mafia groups to dominate the sector. This led to the Supreme Court cancelling 104 mine allocations due to corruption. He emphasised that the scenario has now significantly improved. Reddy also mentioned that the mining sector was once controlled by politically influential individuals and marred by exploitation. In contrast, he said, the current environment fosters development, with common citizens now seeing real benefits. Taking a dig at the Opposition members who were protesting the bill, he said that their opposition stems from a lack of faith in the people. Earlier, during the debate, BJP MP Malavika Devi highlighted that mine allocations were previously handled in an unethical manner, but reforms have changed that. She said the bill would help uplift the poor and improve the nation's global standing by ensuring transparency in mining. BJP's Brijmohan Agrawal called the legislation a key step towards the development of tribal regions, stating that it would benefit marginalized communities. CM Gurumoorthy Maddila of the YSR Congress and G Lakshminarayan from the Telugu Desam Party also took part in the discussion. BJP office-bearer among seven booked for gambling after police raid
PUNE CITY police's Crime Branch has booked seven persons, including a local office-bearer of the BJP, following a raid at a gambling den being operated from a tin shed in Dhankawadi area on Monday. The BJP functionary identified as Audumber Kamble, who was recently appointed to his position in Parvati constituency unit, was removed from the post after the incident was reported, BJP has said. Pune City police said on Monday evening they conducted a raid on a gambling den being operated from a tin shed nea Ashtdwar Society in Dhankawadi. The people present there were placing bets on 'teen patti' card game. Police booked seven persons including Kamble (42) and six others Sangram Dilip Bhosale (48), Mangesh Maruti Shelar (39), Yuvraj Nanasaheb Suryawanshi (38), Sagar Narayan Adagale (31), Bapu Laxman Patole (59), Rohan Shekhar Londhe (32). Cash and mobile phones, collectively worth over Rs 2.20 lakh, were also seized during the raid, a crime branch officer said. A case was subsequently registered against all the seven persons under provisions of the Maharashtra Prevention of Gambling Act. 'Acting on specific input, a team from the Crime Branch conducted a raid and apprehended seven people involved in gambling. The accused have been issued notices and instructed to cooperate with the investigation,' said a Crime Branch officer, adding that the offence does not carry provisions for arrest. When contacted, BJP's Pune city unit president Dheeraj Ghate said, 'Kamble was appointed to a position in a particular circle in Parvati constituency unit of the party. The appointment was made less than a week ago. After the reports came in, we confirmed his involvement and he was immediately removed from his position.'

"Won't Compromise, Will Find New Markets": Shivraj Chouhan Slams US Tariffs
New Delhi: Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his determination to protect the interests of farmers despite tariff pressure and said it has been decided that there will be no compromise with the interests of the farming. Speaking at an event in Subrahmanyam Hall in New Delhi, Mr Chouhan emphasised that India's population is its strength and the country will also find new markets. In a veiled reference to the United States imposing 50 per cent tariff on India and apparent pressure in trade talks for greater access to India's agriculture and dairy sectors, Mr Chouhan said there is vast difference in the size of landholdings and agricultural practices and cost of production in the two countries. "The whole country was apprehensive, know how much land they hold: 10,000 hectares, 15,000 hectares. Meanwhile, our farmers have land ranging from one acre to three acres, with many having just half an acre. We have a little land. Is this competition fair? You use GM seeds. There are different kinds of perceptions about our GM. The whole country was apprehensive, what will happen? They want their soybean to come here, their wheat, maize, rice," the Agriculture Minister said. "The cost of production per hectare is less there because GM seeds and other things are used, so the yield is more and the cost is less. The cost of production per hectare here is much higher than there, and if it had come openly, the prices of the crops here would have fallen further in our country. Where would the farmer go? Therefore, it was decided that no matter what happens, there will be no compromise with the interests of the farmer," he added. Mr Chouhan referred to PM Modi's remarks that no matter how much loss he personally incurs, there will be no compromise with interests of farmers. "Prime Minister Narendra Modi said recently that no matter how much loss I personally incur, but the interests of farmers will not be compromised. India is not going to be afraid of any threat. The whole world should hear that the Indus Treaty has been cancelled, and our water will be used for the farmers. This is Modi ji's decision. Such an unjust treaty, the rivers, land, water are ours and the canal will be built in Pakistan. We gave 80% of the water, and Nehru ji also gave money to build the canal there; this was a sin. Now this will not be allowed at any cost; our water will be used for our own purposes," Mr Chouhan said. Referring to Pakistan's support for cross-border terrorism against India, Mr Chouhan said PM Modi has made it clear that "blood and water cannot flow together". He said the government would soon bring in a new law to take strict action against those producing fake fertilisers and chemicals. He said various schemes for farmers' welfare are being advanced on priority and digital payment of insurance amounts was made to farmers on Monday from Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana.
