Russian tennis star Veronika Kudermetova recently opened up on a light-hearted conversation with Holger Rune, in which she gave the rising star from Denmark a reminder on her personal life. Speaking on a podcast hosted by former Russian player Elena Vesnina, Kudermetova revealed receiving a text from the 22-year-old, currently ranked ninth in the world, and how she responded to the Dane's approach.
Kudermetova turns down Rune's approach in a witty manner
'Rune recently texted me. I told him, 'Boy, I'm probably too old for you. If you looked at my Instagram, you'd see I have a husband.' He replied, 'Oh, sorry.' After that, he stopped saying hi to me,' 28-year-old Kudermetova told the former doubles world No 1, as per The Express.

Kudermetova had married Sergei Demekhine, her coach since the age of 15 who also happens to be 13 years her senior, in a private ceremony in 2017. Their marriage, however, has not come in the way of their professional relationship as Demekhine continues to coach Kudermetova.
The world No 42, who had gone as far as the quarter-finals of the 2022 French Open, had won her maiden Grand Slam title last month at Wimbledon by clinching the women's doubles title along with Belgium's Elise Mertens.
Rune, who had charted a meteoric rise through the ITF Junior Circuit and had announced himself on the ATP Tour with his victory over Novak Djokovic in the 2022 Paris Masters, was reportedly romantically linked to Caroline Donzella, a Dutch-Italian high-end real estate agent based in Monte Carlo, in 2023.
Donzella, whom Rune had initially referred to as his 'friend', was spotted cheering for the Danish player at the 2023 Wimbledon.
Both Rune and Kudermetova, meanwhile, are competing at the National Bank Open which is taking place at Canada's Toronto and Montreal for men and women respectively. Rune has advanced to the Round of 16 after defeating Frenchmen Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard 7-6 (9-7), 6-3 and Alexander Muller 6-2, 6-4 in straight sets.
Kudermetova, meanwhile, lost her third-round clash against world No 2 Coco Gauff of USA 6-4, 5-7, 2-6 after victories over Cristina Bucsa and Olga Danilovic. She is also competing in the women's doubles along with Mertens, the pair advancing to the next round after beating the Brazilian-German pair of Beatriz Haddad Maia and Laura Siegemund 6-4, 4-6, 10-8.

Alexander Zverev on being coached by Toni, Rafa Nadal and what Grand Slam winning advice he got

Alexander Zverev spoke about a week he spent being coached by Toni Nadal and how Rafa Nadal couldn't help himself and joined in to help the German overcome himself in a bid to finally win a Grand Slam. For long, Zverev has been the No. 3 player in the world, trailing both Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. But the 28-year-old has now enlisted the services of Toni Nadal to cross the Grand Slam barrier. Zverev trained with Nadal senior for a week and said that next year onwards would see him take a more active role. It was during that week that Rafa Nadal joined him for dinner and then on the court to help him out as well. 'I was so surprised. I had played Rafa for 10 years of my career and was going to have a nice dinner, just come there and be nice to me, but he was so into it, and he came on court with me and was showing me forehands, trying to improve. That day he came on court with me; I played my forehand like Ernest Gulbis to be honest because I was so nervous,' Zverev said on the Nothing Major podcast. Zverev then said that one of the key bits of advice given by Rafa was that he needed to be a bit braver in the key moments of a match. Zverev has often been accused of being one-dimensional in a Grand Slam era of Sinner and Alcaraz. 'He told me during the week, I don't know how many times, that I need to be braver. He said I need to take it on myself in the most important moments. I know that as well, but hearing it from someone like him, said Zverev. 'I played him in some of the big matches; I played him at Roland Garros a few times and we had big matches. He always told me when you are aggressive, it's so difficult to hurt you because I could always move quite well, so I could find the aggressive game from difficult positions. But it is when I hold back that I become vulnerable; it's when I become more one-dimensional as well.' 'I don't have the serve and volley like my brother, or a good drop shot and slice like Novak. So, for me, when I become passive, that is when I am more hurtable for the top guys, and he always told me he truly believes, and I think I believe him, that he believes I can win a Grand Slam. He told me that a million times. But if I become more brave and take it on myself to do that.'
