Bihar: BJP's Sanjay Jaiswal claims
Gaya (Bihar) [India], June 30 (ANI): As the political heat intensifies in Bihar ahead of the forthcoming Assembly polls, BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal claimed on Monday that 80% of people associated with Jan Suraaj Party are 'criminals'. Hitting back, Prashant Kishor questioned his intent, asking why they are not arresting these people despite being in power in both Bihar and the Centre.
BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal said, 'Prashant Kishor doesn't care about people. A person who killed a Dalit community is holding a board in Bettiah claiming to be a candidate of Prashant Kishor's Bettiah Legislative Assembly. 80% of his associates are criminals... You can't expect a good party from such individuals.'
Replying to this, Jan Suraaj Chief Prashant Kishor asked the ruling BJP and NDA government to nab those 'criminals'.
'His government is currently ruling Bihar, and the BJP-NDA has the government in Delhi. So why have they let all criminals free? They are putting on their face by claiming that all the criminals in Bihar are connected to Jan Suraaj. If that is the case, then what are you doing? Catch those criminals and put them in jail. Are you taking money from them so that they can stay in Jan Suraaj?' Kishor said.
Bihar elections are expected to be held later this year, in October or November; however, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has not announced an official date.
While the NDA, comprising the BJP, JD(U), and LJP, will once again seek to continue its stint in Bihar, the INDIA bloc, comprising the RJD, Congress, and left parties, will aim to unseat Nitish Kumar.
In the current Bihar Assembly, comprising 243 members, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) consists of 131 members, with the BJP having 80 MLAs, JD(U) having 45, HAM(S) having 4, and the support of 2 Independent Candidates.
The Opposition's INDIA Bloc comprises 111 members, with the RJD leading with 77 MLAs, followed by the Congress with 19, the CPI(ML) with 11, the CPI(M) with 2, and the CPI with 2. (ANI)

New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor Ankush Narang has levelled serious allegations of corruption against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led MCD administration, specifically targeting the education department for alleged irregularities in promotions and teacher transfers. Highlighting the significance of education, Narang emphasized that the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government has historically allocated 25-26% of its budget to the education sector, a commitment AAP intended to extend to the MCD after gaining a foothold in the civic body. 'We entered the MCD with the goal of transforming education, but the BJP is obstructing this,' Narang said. 'They fear that an educated population will start questioning authority and demanding rights, which could end their style of politics. AAP does not share this mindset.' Narang pointed to a circular issued by the MCD Education Department on June 4, 2025, which initiated the creation of a seniority list for teachers, move he claimed was happening for the first time in 30 years. 'If this is the first time in three decades, who has been running the MCD all this while?' he questioned, referring to BJP's long-standing control. According to the circular, the provisional seniority list covers appointments from January 1, 1995 to 2002 and was published on the department's portal. Narang alleged several discrepancies in the list, including violations of Supreme Court directives, which stipulate that seniority must be based on the date of joining. 'Teachers with earlier joining dates were pushed down the list, while others with later dates were moved up, a clear manipulation,' he said. Narang explained that seniority is supposed to be determined by three criteria: the date of joining, date of birth, and the DSSSB merit list. However, he alleged that the BJP-led MCD prepared the list based on the date of posting,a move he claimed was intended to accommodate political loyalists. 'Officials are manipulating records to shield those in power,' he said. 'Appointments and promotions are being influenced by favoritism and bribery.' The AAP councillor also slammed the recent transfer of 46 teachers by the MCD's education department. He claimed that 23 of these transfers were done based on personal requests, while others were moved arbitrarily, including a Stage-4 cancer patient and another teacher suffering from spondylitis. 'These individuals should have been given consideration, yet they were pushed out just to make room for the BJP's own people,' he alleged. 'The deputy mayor recently advocated for posting women teachers near their homes. What happened to that promise?'

BJP gets new State chiefs, moves closer to elect national president
The BJP on Monday (June 30, 2025) moved towards rolling out the exercise to have a new national president as the party elected chiefs in some States and is set to announce more on Tuesday (July 1, 2025) that will put the requisite number of State heads at the helm for it to pick the replacement of J.P. Nadda. The BJP's constitution requires the election of its presidents in at least 19 out of its 37 organisational States before the process to elect its national president begins, and the ruling party is set to cross the threshold on Tuesday. V.P. Ramalingam and K. Beichhua were elected BJP presidents of Puducherry and Mizoram respectively on Monday, while single nomination for the post was filed in States like Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, making their election a mere formality on Tuesday. The BJP has now new State presidents, including some who were reelected, in 16 States, a figure that will rise on Tuesday. Some big States like Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh may also follow suit in the next few days. The BJP has picked seasoned organisational men but with low public profile in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in Ramchander Rao and P.V.N. Madhav respectively. Maharashtra BJP working president and four-term MLA Ravindra Chavan is set to be elected pr esident in place of SChandrashekhar Bawankule, a Cabinet Minister in the BJP-led government in the State, while incumbent Uttarakhand president and Rajya Sabha MP Mahendra Bhatt is set to begin a new term. The development has brightened the prospect for the BJP to elect its new national president to replace Mr. Nadda, a Cabinet Minister in the Modi government, in July. The elevation of Mr. Rao, a relatively low profile in the Telangana organisation riven with factionalism, is being seen as a balancing act and also a reward to old organisation hands. The BJP's decision to replace its Lok Sabha MP Daggubati Purandeswari as its Andhra president with a seasoned organisation man is driven by its leadership's wish to build the party in a State where it is an ally of the ruling TDP but remains a minor electoral player. Ms. Purandeswari, the daughter of towering Andhra leader N.T. Rama Rao and sister-in-law of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, enjoys a certain stature due to her family background and long stint in politics during which she served as a Union Minister in the UPA government when she was in the Congress. However, BJP sources said a thorough organisation leader like Mr. Madhav can be more helpful in building the party in the state. While Mr. Rao is a Brahmin, Mr. Madhav is from the Backward Classes, giving the party a toe hold in a community outside the ones that form the bulwark of all major political players in the State. In Uttarakhand, the party, having made a Mr. Thakur leader in Pushkar Singh Dhami as the Chief Minister, has opted for a Brahmin face in Mr. Bhatt as its president. Mr. Chavan is a Maratha, a powerful community in Maharashtra.

Chandigarh: Power bills to shoot up as UT okays hike in MC cess
In some relief for the fund-strapped Chandigarh municipal corporation (MC), the UT administration on Monday approved a 6 paise per unit hike in electricity tax/cess, which will now mean an increased power bill for city residents. The Chandigarh MC has been earning a revenue of approximately ₹ 15-16 crore per annum at the existing rates and with the increase in rate of cess, the revenue under this head will climb to approximately ₹ 22-23 crore. (HT File) The proposal, initially withdrawn by former AAP mayor Kuldeep Kumar Dhalor in November last year, was recently greenlit by the BJP-led House in March, with minimal objections from both ruling and Opposition parties. In a letter addressed to the UT administration, MC officials had in April outlined the necessity of the hike. 'During weekly meetings to review the financial position of the MC, emphasis was laid on enhancing internally generated revenue and curtailing unnecessary expenditures to improve the financial health of the corporation, which is currently passing through a difficult time. Accordingly, a proposal to increase the existing municipal/ electricity cess from ₹ 0.10 per unit to ₹ 0.16 per unit was placed in the General House meeting on March 25. After detailed deliberations, the proposal was duly approved by the House.' The MC has been earning a revenue of approximately ₹ 15-16 crore per annum at the existing rates and with the increase in rate of cess, the revenue under this head will climb to approximately ₹ 22-23 crore. MC to get ₹ 1,000 for every 4-wheeler registration Besides, the secretary of local bodies department of the UT administration also approved ₹ 1,000 for MC, from every four-wheeler registration, sold within MC limits. Earlier, ₹ 500 was being charged by the RLA, which was later transferred to MC in the 'cow cess' head. This comes at a time when the city's infrastructure has taken a severe hit – broken roads, damaged footpaths, neglected parks and poorly maintained public toilets, as the MC continues to grapple with a fund crunch. Needless to say, UT residents are facing the brunt of it. Despite the UT administration releasing annual grants-in-aid periodically, the funds remain insufficient to initiate new projects. Since May last year, no fresh tenders have been floated, effectively bringing the city's growth to a standstill. Essential projects, including re-carpeting of roads, renovation of community centres, improvement of public toilets and cremation grounds, and beautification of markets, have all been stalled.
