Bihar: Two brothers take advantage of 'PMFME' scheme, set up Kurkure factory in Motihari
The 'Prime Minister Formalisation of Micro food processing Enterprises' (PMFME) scheme is a Central government scheme to address the challenges faced by micro-enterprises and also support their growth. Two brothers in Bihar's Motihari district have emerged as role models in their vicinity for starting and running a small-scale enterprise successfully. They started a Kurkure factory, taking help from PMFME and today, they are earning money as well as creating employment. PMFME scheme supports and facilitates the aspiring youth in starting their small-scale enterprise, and also helps them tap the potential of local youth and co-operatives. Vijay and Sanjay Jaiswal, two youths from Motihari, obtained a loan and subsidy under the scheme, and today they are shaping not only their future but also that of those looking for employment. They set up a Kurkure factory by taking a loan under the scheme. They worked hard, and today their Kurkure is being exported to other countries. Jaiswal brothers have given employment to dozens of youth in their factory. Factory operator and younger brother Sanjay Jaiswal said, "After completing my intermediate studies, I went to look for work in big cities, but could not find work anywhere. After this, I came to know about this scheme run by the government. I understood this scheme well and then decided to set up a Kurkure factory.' Elder brother Vijay Jaiswal said, "We started planning to set up this plant six-seven months ago. It was not easy for an ordinary family to raise the capital required for the plant. We applied for a loan of Rs 10 lakh 88 thousand under the PMFME scheme, which was approved.' 'We are running the plant well. I would only like to tell the youth that they should not waste their time on jobs and rather join a business. No business is ruined, and can grow from a small one to a big one. We thank the Prime Minister for this scheme," he added. Sanjay Kumar, a factory worker, said, "Earlier, I used to do the same work in Delhi, but now I am doing it in Motihari. The advantage of this is that I take leave every month or two and go to my home in Saharsa. We request the Prime Minister to keep giving such small loans. This will prove to be very important for the future of Bihar."

BJP's Sanjay Jaiswal slams Mahagathbandhan, predicts NDA win with over 220 seats in Bihar
Senior BJP leader and four-time Lok Sabha MP from West Champaran, Dr Sanjay Jaiswal, mounted an attack on the Congress and the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) on Monday, labelling them 'brainless,' 'unbalanced,' and 'corrupt.' Addressing the media in Patna, Jaiswal accused the Congress of being influenced by foreign powers. 'Congress has neither brains nor balanced people. They take funding from abroad and speak the language of foreign powers,' he alleged. Targeting the Mahagathbandhan, Jaiswal dismissed its political efforts as ineffective and lacking direction. 'Their meetings are meaningless. They only want to grab power and divide it among themselves. Nothing will come of their alliance,' he said. Most of the corrupt politicians come from the INDI alliance, he said. He downplayed the significance of the Grand Alliance not projecting a chief ministerial face, remarking, 'How does it matter if they have or haven't finalised a face?' Expressing confidence in the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), Jaiswal predicted a decisive mandate in the upcoming Bihar elections. 'Our alliance is fully united. With the people's support, we will secure over 220 seats and a three-fourths majority,' he asserted. Jaiswal also targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his comments on the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, demanding that the party take full responsibility for the violence. 'The 1984 riots and the killings of Hindus and Sikhs in 1947 are dark chapters in our history. Congress bears full responsibility for these shameful events,' he said. Jaiswal's remarks reflect the BJP's intensifying campaign posture as the electoral contest in Bihar gathers pace. Responses from the Congress and the Mahagathbandhan are awaited, potentially setting the stage for a heated political face-off. With the Assembly election due in Bihar later this year, the INDI alliance has said that it will contest the election unitedly in all 243 seats.

Ex-BJP MLA, 4 others get 3-yr jail in 2003 ballot loot case
A special MP/MLA court in Basti on Tuesday sentenced former BJP MLA Sanjay Jaiswal and four others to three years' imprisonment in connection with a 2003 case involving the looting of ballot papers and vandalism at a government office during MLC elections. The court also rejected their bail pleas, following which all five were taken into custody and sent to the district jail. Circle officer (CO) Satyendra Bhushan Tiwari confirmed that the convicts were immediately remanded following the court's decision. The verdict was delivered by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Parmod Giri, presiding over the MP/MLA court. The judgment came after the court had already convicted the five under various sections of the Indian Penal Code in 2023, including charges of rioting, assault on public servants, theft, and obstructing official duty. The case pertains to events that unfolded during vote counting for the 2003 MLC elections from local bodies in the Basti and Siddharthnagar districts. Officials said tensions flared after independent candidate Manish Jaiswal took a lead of 124 votes over BJP-backed candidate Kanchna Singh, wife of then BJP MLA Aditya Vikram Singh. Following this development, Sanjay Jaiswal, then Block Pramukh Trambak Pathak, Ashok Singh, Irfan Maik, and others allegedly forced entry into the counting centre. They were accused of misbehaving with assistant returning officer Anil Kumar Diwedi and looting ballot papers while demanding a recount. A case was registered (FIR No 1398/2003) under IPC Sections 147 (rioting), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 353 (assault on public servant), 332 (causing hurt to deter public servant from duty), and 381 (theft by clerk or servant), along with provisions of the Criminal Law Amendment Act. Of the eight originally named in the FIR, two died during the trial, and one turned government witness. The remaining five were convicted in 2023, and their bail pleas were dismissed on April 29, 2025. Notably, Sanjay Jaiswal served as an MLA from 2013 to 2017.
