Rape accused harasses survivor, threatens her to withdraw case and marry him

Time of India03-05-2025
Vadodara: Months after filing a rape complaint, a woman has alleged fresh
harassment
from the accused, who has been pressuring her to drop the charges and marry him. She approached
Gorwa police
after he reportedly threatened her in public.
According to police sources, the accused, identified as
Ajay Rathod
, was booked in the
rape case
approximately four months ago and was arrested at that time.
However, on March 15, Rathod allegedly resumed contact with the complainant, repeatedly calling her and sending messages via WhatsApp and Instagram, urging her to drop the charges and agree to marry him.
The situation escalated on April 19, when Rathod allegedly confronted the woman in person. She had gone to a pharmacy when Rathod approached her and, according to her complaint, issued a chilling threat — demanding that she withdraw the case or he would strip and parade her in public.

HC upholds life imprisonment of 6 men convicted of double murder

Cuttack: The Orissa high court on Monday upheld the life imprisonment of six men convicted for the killings of Sankarsan Sethy and his brother-in-law Babuli Sethy in 1996 over a loan dispute of Rs 1,000 in Kendrapara district. A division bench of Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo and Justice Chittaranjan Dash dismissed the criminal appeals filed by the convicts against the 1998 trial court verdict, observing that the prosecution had successfully proved its case through credible witness accounts and corroborating medical evidence. The incident took place on June 19, 1996, at Indupur village under Kendrapada police station limits. According to the prosecution, the victims were attacked in broad daylight on a village road using deadly weapons — including a crowbar, spear and bhujali (a type of dagger) — following a quarrel over non-repayment of a loan of Rs 1,000 allegedly given by Sankarsan. Both men succumbed to their injuries at the district headquarters hospital in Kendrapara. The additional sessions judge, Kendrapada, had on Sept 22, 1998, convicted nine persons and sentenced them to life imprisonment. The convicts had challenged the verdict in the high court the same year. However, during the pendency of the appeals, three of them died and the proceedings against them were abated last year. "The case in hand depicts a painful and distressing event of double murder committed in front of the relations on the village street just in connection with non-payment of paltry loan amount of Rs 1,000," the bench observed. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The boy meets a dog on the street - no one expected what happened next. "We are of the humble view that the learned trial court has rightly found the appellants guilty," the bench said, confirming the convictions and life sentences of Chandi Sethy, Karunakar Sethy, Bulu Sethy, Basanta Sethy, Premananda Sethy and Suratha Sethy under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code. All six convicts were out on bail since March 18, 2010. The high court has now cancelled their bail and surety bonds and directed them to surrender before the trial court within 15 days. "In case of failure to surrender, the learned trial court shall take appropriate steps for their arrest and send them to judicial custody," the HC ordered. Rakshabandhan horror: Dog walker accused of raping five-year-old girl in Rajkot apartment

Rajkot: A five-year-old girl was sexually assaulted, allegedly by a 17-year-old boy in a residential apartment on the 150-ft Ring Road on the day of Rakshabandhan. The heinous crime came to light on Monday when the accused, a native of Nepal, was detained following a complaint lodged at the University police station by the survivor's father, who works as a watchman in the apartment. Preliminary investigation revealed that both families, the girl's and the accused's, are originally from Nepal and have been working in Rajkot for many years. On the night of Aug 9, the girl's father went to his cousin sister's house for Rakshabandhan. However, he rushed home after receiving a call from his wife, who told him that their daughter was missing. They searched for her, but she was nowhere to be seen. After a while, the teenager brought the minor to their house, saying he had taken her to his employer's house for dinner. However, the girl was crying and traumatised. Upon asking, the minor told them that she was subjected to misconduct. On Monday, the girl was rushed to the hospital after she experienced severe pain in her abdomen. Investigation officer Haresh Patel told TOI: "The accused boy has been living with the current employer for the last 13 years. He has been taking care of the employer's dog and working at a grocery store." The complainant has three daughters; two live in Nepal, while the youngest lives with them. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Prince William & Kate Met Princess Diana's Secret Daughter.
