AI as a co-creator: How artists and writers are embracing unexpected collaborations

Creativity is no longer exclusively human. Around the world, artists, writers, and musicians are partnering with artificial intelligence to produce works that surprise, challenge, and inspire. These collaborations result in art, music, and stories that neither humans nor machines could create alone, reshaping the creative landscape in ways we're only beginning to grasp.
Digital artist Refik Anadol uses AI to turn massive datasets into visual installations. His project Machine Hallucinations transforms raw data into dreamlike animations. He achieved this feat with AI's ability to recognise patterns and translate them into new forms.
Robin Sloan did a similar experiment in literature for his project, The Sourdough. He used AI to brainstorm ideas and co-write passages, blending human intuition with mechanical creativity. As a result, he got stories that felt familiar while also being refreshingly unexpected.
Musicians are jumping onto the AI bandwagon too. Singer-songwriter Taryn Southern released I AM AI, an album where elements like lyrics and melodies were crafted with AI tools. The project intertwines human emotion with machine-generated sound, exhibiting AI's potential as more than just a tool but as an active collaborator.
These projects spark many important debates and raise several questions in people's minds. Who takes ownership and credit of a piece created as a result of both human and AI efforts? Should you get a chance to file copyright of AI-generated work, or is it reserved for someone who is driving the machine? Some fear AI might overshadow human creativity, while others see it as a way to push boundaries and explore uncharted ideas.
Bias is another major concern. AI models learn from existing data, which can often include stereotypes or limitations. Creators need to stay vigilant, ensuring the works reflect diverse perspectives and avoid reinforcing harmful norms.
The future of AI-human partnerships looks promising, even with these challenges in place. Tools like Midjourney, ChatGPT, ElevenLabs and others are making it easier for anyone to experiment with AI as a creative partner. These collaborations aren't about replacing human creativity, they're about expanding it, unlocking new styles, stories, and sounds that were unimaginable just a few years ago.
As artists and writers continue exploring this front, one thing is clear: the most exciting work happens when human imagination meets machine intelligence, each contributing something unique to the process.

Airtel's Xtelify launches cloud, AI-led software suite for telcos

New Delhi: Xtelify, the digital arm of Bharti Airtel, on Monday announced the launch of 'Airtel Cloud' along with a new suite of AI-powered software solutions designed for telecom enterprises. This "built-in-India" telco-grade cloud platform will deliver Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and advanced connectivity, ensuring secure migration, seamless scalability, reduced costs, and freedom from vendor lock-in, the company said in a statement. "Tailored to handle 140 crore transactions per minute for Airtel's own use in India, this sovereign cloud platform is now being extended to meet the ever-evolving needs of businesses in India. "Hosted on next-gen sustainable data centres , with Gen-AI based provisioning, and managed by 300 certified cloud experts... Airtel Cloud offers IaaS, PaaS and advanced connectivity..." the statement said. The company claims its cloud service can reduce cloud spending for Indian businesses by up to 40 per cent. The software suite includes four core platforms -- Work, Serve, Data Engine, and Airtel IQ -- delivering capabilities such as business process automation, personalization, real-time customer engagement and task optimisation, and AI-powered analytics and intelligence. Xtelify has already secured three global partnerships for the platform with Singtel, Globe Telecom, and Airtel Africa. Highlighting the scale of Airtel's internal usage, Bharti Airtel Vice Chairman and MD Gopal Vittal stated: "We are processing 2 trillion transactions per day. So, it's the real scale that we have. This is the largest cloud that runs in India. There are 10,000 physical servers, almost 7,600 network and security devices ...". These software solutions, he said, have enabled Airtel to maintain high Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) while achieving the world's lowest technology spend as a percentage of revenue.

Makers announces the re-release with new climax In July 2025, Eros International, the production banner, announced the re-release of Raanjhanaa /Ambikapathy with a new ending powered by AI. The movie was announced to re-release on August 1st, 2025, in cinemas. Aanand L Rai opposed the act while disassociating himself from the movie Aanand L Rai, who directed the movie, strongly opposed the strategy. In a statement, Aanand told PTI, 'I'm heartbroken that this is the future we're heading toward, where intent and authorship are disposable. All I can do is dissociate myself from such a reckless and dystopian experiment. Raanjhanaa didn't need a new climax.' 'To see its ending altered without a word of discussion is a gross violation not just of the film, but of the trust of the fans who've carried the film in their hearts for 12 years,' the filmmaker said. Eros responded and called it a creative reimagination While responding to Aanand L Rai's comment, company's CEO Pradeep Dwivedi said, 'This is a creative reimagining, not a replacement, and is consistent with global industry practices including anniversary editions, alternate cuts, and modernised remasters." The company further stated that Eros holds the sole and exclusive copyright and producer rights of Raanjhanaa, including the legal and moral rights under Indian law. An excerpt from the caption reads, 'To watch Raanjhanaa, a film born out of care, conflict, collaboration, and creative risk, be altered, repackaged, and re-released without my knowledge or consent has been nothing short of devastating. What makes it worse is the complete ease and casualness with which it's been done.' 'I do not support or endorse the AI-altered version of Raanjhanaa. It is unauthorised. I had no role in it. Neither did the team that made the film. And whatever it claims to be, it is not the film we intended, or made,' wrote the filmmaker on Instagram. Anurag Kashyap, Neeraj Panday, Varun Grover and others condemn the AI-ending Industry people stood in favour of the creators and condemned the new practice. Anurag Kashyap shared a couple of social media posts which criticised the AI-ending of Raanjhanaa. Varun Grover opposed the production banner with a short story of his film Masaan and his uncle's demand of making it a happy ending. Neeraj Panday also reacted on the same and stood firm with the creators. In an interview, he said, 'If Eros says, 'We have the rights, we can do anything,' that's still no excuse. A little communication wouldn't have hurt. If they had just spoken to Anand and the other creators involved in birthing that film, it would have been the right thing to do," the director told NDTV. Dhanush released an official statement against AI-altered ending of Raanjhanaa On August 3, 2025, Dhanush, who played the lead character in Raanjhanaa, released an official statement. He wrote, 'The alternate ending has stripped the film of its very soul, and the concerned parties went ahead with it despite my clear objection. This is not the film I committed to 12 years ago.' He further stated, 'The use of AI to alter films or content is a deeply concerning precedent for both art and artists. It threatens the integrity of storytelling and the legacy of cinema. I sincerely hope that stricter regulations are put in place to prevent such practices in the future.' Eros responded to Dhanush's statement Eros reverted back with a reply to Dhanush. On August 4, the company released a statement and said, 'We would like to respectfully clarify that an Eros representative had engaged in direct communication with Mr. Dhanush's team regarding the proposed revisions, and no formal objection was communicated to us prior to the AI-enhanced re-release of Ambikapathy.' The production banner also raised questions on Aanand L Rai and Dhanush using title, themes, characters, and music of Raanjhanaa in the promotional assets of their upcoming movie, Tere Ishk Mein. (Bloomberg) -- The age of ever-bigger AI data centers is leaving cloud companies with a question: What do with older, smaller facilities? Broadcom Inc. is offering a possible answer, at least for operations located with some proximity. A new version of its Jericho networking chip announced Monday can transfer larger volumes of data at higher speeds. That means customers can link up several smaller data centers to create one big system for developing or running AI models, said Ram Velaga, senior vice president and general manager of the company's core switching group. The Jericho4 product is capable of connecting more than 1 million processors across multiple data centers and can handle about four times more information than the previous version, Broadcom said. Broadcom has been benefiting from demand for gear that can be used to build out AI systems. Its networking components, such as routers and switches, direct traffic between graphics processing units, or GPUs, the pricey chips used to create AI models. While some of the Broadcom gear is used to move data within parts of the same rack or data center building, there is also a need for components that work across buildings or even greater distances. Moreover, the power consumption of giant GPU clusters is getting too large to keep them all in the same location, Velaga said. 'When they try to do a cluster of 200,000 GPUs or even 100,000 GPUs, you soon hit 300 megawatts, and 300 megawatts is not available inside one physical building today,' Velaga said. The Jericho family of networking chips will help that work, he said. Companies also are trying to move data center capacity nearer to customers, helping speed up the answers users get from AI models. That means cloud and AI businesses will need to make use of data centers located in congested metropolitan areas, where it may be more practical to connect several smaller setups, Velaga said. Broadcom's Tomahawk line can connect racks inside a data center, but those distances are usually under a kilometer (0.6 miles), Velaga said. The Jericho equipment can handle distances of more than 100 kilometers. The Jericho4 will start shipping Monday to early customers such as cloud providers and network gear makers, which will build it into their products, Velaga said.
