'I've heard every possible permutation & combination about what to expect in J&K tomorrow (August 5) so let me stick my neck out and say nothing will happen tomorrow – fortunately nothing bad will happen but unfortunately nothing positive will happen either.
'I'm still optimistic about something positive for J&K in this monsoon session of Parliament but not tomorrow. And no, I haven't had any meetings or conversations with people in Delhi. This is just a gut feeling. Let's see this time tomorrow,' Abdullah wrote in a post on X.

Ahead of Independence Day, Punjab DGP holds law, order review meetings in state
Agency: PTI Chandigarh, Aug 12 (PTI) Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav on Tuesday chaired a law and order review meeting and outreach sessions with officers of Ferozepur, Faridkot, Bathinda and Patiala ranges ahead of Independence Day. During his day-long tour, the DGP has visited three districts including Ferozepur, Bathinda and Patiala. He issued strategic directives on counter-terror readiness, inter-district coordination, checkpoints, and continuous surveillance to ensure safe Independence Day celebrations and to eliminate the cross-border drug menace through enforcement of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act . Raids at JKLF chief's home over 1990 murder of Pandit woman
SRINAGAR: J&K police's Special Investigation Agency (SIA) conducted raids Tuesday at the residence of jailed Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Yasin Malik and seven other Srinagar locations over the murder of a Kashmiri Pandit woman hospital staffer by terrorists 35 years ago. The action in Sarla Bhatt's murder case came a week after lieutenant-governor (LG) Manoj Sinha vowed reinvestigations into such terror killings. Anantnag's Bhatt, 27, was kidnapped from Sheri Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKICC) in Srinagar on April 14, 1990, by JKLF-linked militants on claims of being a police informer. Her bullet-ridden body was found four days later. Malik is serving a life term in Delhi's Tihar Jail after a 2022 conviction for terror-related crimes. 'These strategic searches at eight locations throughout Srinagar have resulted in recovery of some incriminating evidence, which will help in unearthing the whole terrorist conspiracy with an ultimate aim to deliver Justice to the victim and her family,' SIA said in a statement Tuesday. The searches also spanned homes of former JKLF lynchpins such as Javid Mir, Peer Noor ul Haq Shah alias Air Marshal Noor Khan, Reyaz Kabir, Bashir Ahmad Gojri, Feroz Ahmad Khan, Kaiser Ahmad Tiploo and Ghulam Mohammad Taploo, all residents of Srinagar. This is the second major terror case reopened in J&K. The first was in 2023 when SIA started a probe into the 1989 killing of Neelkanth Ganjoo, a retired Kashmiri Pandit judge. Ganjoo had sentenced JKLF founder Mohammad Maqbool Butt to death in 1968 for killing a police officer in Kupwara. Butt was hanged in Tihar Jail on Feb 11, 1984. Ganjoo was shot dead by terrorists on Nov 4, 1989 in Srinagar. A 2008 J&K police report revealed that 209 Pandits were killed by terrorists since 1989. Community groups insist the number is higher. Last week, Sinha had pledged to have such terror cases reopened. SP Sambhal MP fined Rs 1.35 lakh over building construction

Sambhal (UP), Aug 12 (PTI) Samajwadi Party Sambhal MP Zia-ur-Rehman Barq was fined Rs 1.35 lakh for allegedly carrying out construction without getting the building plan approved, authorities said on Tuesday. Barq, however, told PTI Videos he had not received any notice for demolition. 'It is being said that there is an order to bulldoze my property, but I have not received any copy of the order. However, if our constitutional rights are being bulldozed, then these properties mean nothing,' he said. Barq said he has faith in the police and judiciary, but if that goes, there will be no hope. 'But I still believe the judiciary has some integrity,' he said. SDM Vikas Chandra told reporters that the matter was under consideration, and an order in relation to it was issued on Monday. 'The MP had sought an opportunity to submit a revised map, which was accepted. The compoundable portion of the construction was regularised upon payment of Rs 5,707. However, a penalty of Rs 1.35 lakh has been imposed for carrying out construction without approval or prior intimation,' he said. Chandra said that a portion measuring one metre in length and 14 metres in width that falls in the setback area will not be compounded and must be removed within 30 days.
