Prithvi Shaw smashes hundred in debut innings for Maharashtra in Buchi Babu Trophy 2025
This is the 25-year-old Shaw's first tournament for the side, having moved from Mumbai in July. Shaw is looking to reignite his career in top-level cricket after a torrid season last year in which he was dropped by Mumbai due to issues with his fitness and discipline.
Shaw had been granted a no-objection certificate from Mumbai to change teams in June. 'At this stage of my career, I believe joining the Maharashtra team will help me grow further as a cricketer,' Shaw said in a statement. 'I am deeply grateful to the Mumbai Cricket Association for the opportunities and support I have received over the years.'
Widely rated as one of the most exciting young talents in the world during his teenage years, Shaw's international career petered out after five Tests, six ODIs and a T20I, with his last match for India coming in July 2021. He remained prolific in the domestic scene for a couple of years after that as well before his sharp decline last season.
Shaw has 4556 runs in 58 first-class appearances at 46.02, scoring 13 centuries and 18 half-centuries with a highesgt score of 379. In List-A games, he has 3399 runs at 55.72 and a strike-rate of 125.74. In T20s, his 2902 runs have come at a strike-rate of 151.54 and average of 25.01. He was unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction. Shaw was captain of the Indian team that won the 2018 Under-19 World Cup, with current Test captain Shubman Gill being the player of the tournament.

Official: Pakistan won't travel to India for Hockey Asia Cup due to ‘security concerns', Bangladesh named replacement
Pakistan won't be travelling to Bihar for the Hockey Asia Cup, the continental body confirmed on Tuesday, ending months of speculation. Bangladesh have been named as Pakistan's replacement for the tournament, which will be held from August 29 to September 7 in Rajgir. Oman, originally a part of the eight-team competition, too, withdrew with Kazakhstan taking their spot. The winner of the Asia Cup will earn a direct spot for the 2026 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the Netherlands and Belgium. Hosts India are in Pool A along with Japan, China and Kazakhstan. The Harmanpreet Singh-led side will open its campaign against China on August 29, before taking on Japan (August 31) and Kazakhstan on September 1. Pool B comprises defending champions South Korea, Malaysia, Bangladesh and Chinese Taipei. The second stage of the championship — called Super 4s, comprising the top two teams from each group — will begin on September 3, with the final on September 7. Bangladesh and Kazakhstan were named replacements based on their performances in the AHF Cup, a qualifying competition for the Asia Cup. Bangladesh finished third in the tournament after losing to eventual champions Oman 5-4 in the semifinals in Jakarta on April 25. The two finalists, Oman and Chinese Taipei, had already earned direct berths for the main championships. However, after Oman, too, pulled out, fourth-placed Kazakhstan were offered a spot. Pakistan's participation in the World Cup qualifying tournament had been in doubt ever since the Pahalgam terror attack. In the aftermath of the attack, which claimed 26 lives, the Indian government revoked visas for Pakistani nationals. However, the government later underlined that the hockey team won't be stopped from travelling to India to ensure the Olympic charter wasn't violated. Days later, though, the Pakistan Hockey Federation informed the International Hockey Federation (FIH) and Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) that it would be 'difficult' for them to send a team to India for the Asia Cup because of 'security concerns', despite being given assurances by their Indian counterparts. Soon after, Pakistan's sports board ordered that the federations should not 'commit to participate in any sporting event in India', according to reports. The Pakistan Sports Board cited 'security situation' as the reason for issuing the directive last month. 'In view of the current security situation, no national federation shall make any commitment or agreement regarding participation in sports events in India without prior permission from PSB,' the circular said, as per Dawn. Pakistan's withdrawal from the Asia Cup also raises question marks over their participation in the Junior World Cup, which will be held in Chennai and Madurai from November 28 to December 10.

India Women ODI World Cup 2025 Squad: Harmanpreet Kaur to lead as BCCI announce 15-member team in Mumbai
India Women's Squad for ODI World Cup 2025: Harmanpreet Kaur will lead India for the first time in a 50-overs World Cup as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the Women's ODI squad for the showpiece event. Star opener Smriti Mandhana was appointed as Harmanpreet's deputy as India are marked to open their campaign against Sri Lanka on September 30. The venue for the tournament opener, however, is yet to be decided after a Karnataka government-appointed commission deemed the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru unsafe to host large-scale events following the catastrophic stampedes at the venue following Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL 2025 victory parade and celebrations. Meanwhile, opener Shafali Verma missed out from both the World Cup squad as well as the team for the Australia ODI series. India have had a rather flawless run against most oppositions, barring arch-nemesis Australia, since the start of 2024. Harmanpreet's side wiped out South Africa, New Zealand, West Indies and Ireland at home while trumping England 2-1 in their recent series away from home. India also clinched the recent tri-series trophy held in Sri Lanka, beating the hosts and South Africa to firm up their 50-overs squad. However, their final set of rehearsals will be held during the forthcoming ODI series against world champions Australia, to be played in Mullanpur and Delhi between September 14 and 20. Additionally to the World Cup team, the India squad for the aforementioned Australia series was also announced. Harmanpreet Kaur (Capt), Smriti Mandhana (VC), Pratika Rawal, Harleen Deol, Deepti Sharma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Renuka Singh Thakur, Arundhati Reddy, Richa Ghosh (WK), Kranti Gaud, Amanjot Kaur, Radha Yadav, Sree Charani, Yastika Bhatia (WK) and Sneh Rana ODI squad for Australia series: Harmanpreet Kaur (C), Smriti Mandhana (VC), Pratika Rawal, Harleen Deol, Deepti Sharma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Renuka Singh Thakur, Arundhati Reddy, Richa Ghosh (WK), Kranti Gaud, Sayali Satghare, Radha Yadav, Sree Charani, Yastika Bhatia (WK), Sneh Rana
