Odisha Governor Kambhampati urges citizens to embrace renewable energy
In a strong push for
environmental protection
and
sustainable living
,
Odisha Governor
Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati has urged citizens to embrace
green energy
to reduce pollution, safeguard the planet and save much-needed foreign exchange by reducing the import of crude oil, a release said on Sunday.
Addressing a press conference at Raj Bhavan, the Governor emphasised the importance of transitioning from traditional energy sources to renewable alternatives. Since taking charge, Governor Kambhampati has initiated a transformative shift in the energy infrastructure of Raj Bhavan, Bhubaneswar.
A 150-kilowatt
solar power plant
is already operational within the premises, with an additional 400 kilowatts set to be installed soon. This marks a significant step towards making the Governor's residence a net-zero energy campus. Furthering the green mission, a fleet of Made-in-India
electric vehicles
has been introduced, ranging from official cars to two-wheelers, signalling a decisive move towards sustainable mobility.
"Every ride now contributes to a quieter, cleaner, and more responsible tomorrow. It's more than a choice--it's the path we've chosen to follow," Dr. Kambhampati said, underlining the urgency of adopting eco-friendly practices.
With this pioneering effort, Raj Bhavan is not only setting an example for government institutions across the country but also sending a clear message that sustainability begins at the top.
During the interaction with the media, the Governor highlighted several major schemes introduced by the Government of India to promote
renewable energy
, such as
PM-KUSUM Yojana
, PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.
Kambhampati appreciated the Odisha Government for providing an additional subsidy under the
PM Surya Ghar scheme
, stating that it will encourage more people to adopt solar energy.
He urged citizens across the state to take full advantage of such initiatives and actively transition to renewable sources of energy--not just for personal benefit, but for the greater good of the environment.
He also appealed to people to gradually shift away from petrol and diesel vehicles and adopt electric vehicles, highlighting that this transition is a crucial step toward reducing pollution, cutting dependence on fossil fuels, and supporting a cleaner, more sustainable future. Furthermore, he emphasised that charging electric vehicles with rooftop solar panels enables truly green mobility by eliminating the need for fossil fuels. "It also makes everyday travel significantly more affordable," he noted.
He also stated, "Now is the time to take action. These efforts aim to empower people and build a better, lasting future for the next generations." Dr. Kambhampati also called upon the media to play a proactive role in spreading awareness about renewable energy.
"The objective of today's interaction is to inspire citizens through awareness. The media serves as a crucial bridge in taking this vital message to every household," he said.
Significantly, this is not the first time Dr. Kambhampati has championed renewable energy. As a Member of Parliament in 2014, he had strongly advocated for sustainable energy solutions during his maiden address in Parliament.
While supporting the Union Budget presented by the then Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Dr. Kambhampati had underscored the need to tackle India's trade deficit by reducing dependence on imported crude oil and promoting the use of ethanol-blended fuel and electric vehicles. He had urged the government to offer tax incentives for electric vehicles and improve the domestic power situation through renewable energy like solar generators to reduce reliance on diesel generators, which would in turn help lower the current account deficit and conserve foreign exchange.
His visionary remarks in Parliament a decade ago reflected a deep understanding of the interlinkages between energy policy, economic stability, and environmental responsibility--principles he continues to uphold as the Governor of Odisha. Through both words and action, Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati continues to lead by example, inspiring a shift toward a cleaner, greener, and more energy-secure future.
Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, who was present at the event, lauded the green initiatives undertaken by Raj Bhavan and highlighted the various steps taken by the state government to promote renewable energy. He emphasised the importance of public participation in making Odisha a leader in sustainable development.

Meanwhile, the Israel-Iran truce helped ease geopolitical tensions, and growing optimism over a potential US-India trade deal supported sentiment. Inflows from foreign institutional investors further contributed to the positive undertone. Even concerns around the July 9 U.S. tariff deadline took a backseat, as reports of a likely extension helped calm investor nerves. The Nifty traded below the 25,600 level. In China, manufacturing activity contracted for the third straight month in June. The official manufacturing PMI inched up to 49.7 from May's 49.5, still below the 50-mark that separates growth from contraction. The Nasdaq Composite also reached an all-time high, closing at a record after adding about 0.5%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose nearly 1%. All three indices have made a solid comeback this month after Aprils slump, which was triggered by escalating trade tensions. Adding a political twist to the mix, the US Senate on Saturday narrowly voted 51-49 to begin debate on President Trumps sweeping "One Big Beautiful Bill." This legislation rolls together tax cuts, spending shifts, and border security measures. While the bill still faces a turbulent legislative journey, the vote kicks off up to 20 hours of debate. However, the Congressional Budget Office estimates it could swell the federal deficit by a staggering $3.3 trillion over the next ten years.

Indian stock market: 5 key triggers that could drive Nifty 50 to 26,000 in the short term
The Nifty 50, the benchmark of the Indian stock market, is hovering near 25,600, eyeing a reclaim of the 26,000 mark. The index is now about 3 per cent down from its all-time high of 26,277.35, which it scaled on September 27 last year. Amid global turmoil, tariff-related concerns and weak earnings, the domestic market has performed well in the first half of the calendar year 2025 (H1CY25). On a monthly scale, the Nifty 50 has been in the green since March this year. "Nifty has managed to absorb most of the negative news in the last two months, from wars and geopolitics to the tariffs. While that was happening, global liquidity was rising. Whether you consider US M2 (measure of the money supply) going higher or the rate cuts in Europe and India. This has kept markets elevated and hopeful that the earnings slowdown will revive into the year-end," Rohit Srivastava, the founder and market strategist at observed. The index is expected to scale fresh record highs in the second half of the year, as the medium-term outlook for the market remains positive, supported by the country's healthy macroeconomic fundamentals and expectations that tariff-related uncertainties will recede. Let's take a look at five key factors that could drive the Nifty 50 to 26,000 or even to uncharted territories in the short term: Investors are focusing on the India-US trade negotiations as the 9 July deadline approaches. So far, only two countries—China and the UK—have signed trade deals with the US. India and Japan are expected to be the next countries that could strike trade deals with the US. On Friday, Trump said that the White House was looking into an agreement with India that would give it the 'right to go in and trade' with the country. Meanwhile, a PTI report, quoting sources, suggested that India-US trade negotiations for an interim trade agreement are progressing well. A favourable trade deal could boost market sentiment, propelling the Nifty 50 to fresh highs. "One big kicker for the market is the long-awaited US-India trade deal. A lot is expected, and more than anything else, expect the uncertainty to die. Business will be back to normal," said Arun Kejriwal, Founder of Kejriwal Research and Investment Services. Q1FY26 earnings are expected to be better due to lower inflation, three successive rate cuts by the RBI and healthy macroeconomic growth. "The larger section of companies is expected to benefit from three successive rate cuts by the RBI. The impact of the first two cuts will be felt on corporations' bottom lines, which should help in better earnings," said Kejriwal. Healthy earnings of Indian corporates will ease the concerns over elevated valuations and drive the market to the 26,000 mark or even beyond. The IMD has predicted an above-normal monsoon this year, which is expected to keep food inflation under control. Lower inflation would raise the prospects of further rate cuts by the RBI and reduce input costs for corporates, thereby augmenting their profitability. A healthy and evenly spread monsoon will also underpin market sentiment. G Chokkalingam, the founder and head of research of Equinomics Research Private Limited, pointed out that cumulative rainfall is also in surplus so far. "As of this morning, cumulative rainfall as of yesterday in June is 8 per cent above the long-term average rainfall. This is a highly positive development for the markets. It can help the output of the agricultural sector to grow significantly and thereby help the overall GDP to grow faster," said Chokkalingam. "A successful monsoon helps in moderating or keeping in check crop prices, and therefore inflation rates tend to remain modest. Already, both retail and wholesale inflation rates are at record low levels. Therefore, a good monsoon would help in the continuation of the reversal of the interest rate cycle in the economy. The same would help both the economy and corporate world to gain from improvements in aggregate demand in the system," said Chokkalingam. The dollar index is hovering near its 52-week low. If it remains in this lower range for an extended period, it could potentially trigger healthy foreign capital inflows into the Indian market, driving it to new highs. "We are looking at 28,000 by the year-end with the potential of upward revisions as markets price in a move to a dovish Fed in 2026. The falling dollar will drive better inflows into emerging markets, and India stands out as a winner there as well. A good monsoon and lower interest rates should create the growth momentum for this year," said Srivastava. Experts say if the index holds above 25,700 decisively, it may reclaim the 26,000 mark soon. According to Jigar S. Patel, Senior Manager of Equity Research at Anand Rathi Share and Stock Brokers, the 25,700–25,900 zone is likely to act as immediate resistance. "A convincing breakout above this range could pave the way for a new leg higher. However, any close below 25,300 would signal a failed breakout," said Patel. Kejriwal said that the Nifty 50 index won't climb to the 26,000 mark quickly without supportive news flow. On the support side, Kejriwal said the 25,200 mark would act as strong support.
