Deion Sanders, medical team will hold news conference amid Colorado coach's battle with unspecified issue
As Sanders continues to prepare for his third season as the Colorado football head coach, he offered a positive — albeit brief — update about his health status on Friday.
"Back and Feeling Great!" Sanders wrote on X.
Sanders has elected to keep many details about his personal health private, but he now appears willing to change course.
A press conference with Sanders and his medical team has been scheduled for Monday. Personnel from CU Anschutz and UC Health will join Sanders and are expected to "provide general and team updates," university officials said in a news release.
The apparent health concerns prevented the high-profile coach from being fully involved in the football team's spring and summer workouts this offseason. The issues also forced the two-time Super Bowl winner to miss summer football camps in Colorado, USA Today reported in June.
In recent years, Sanders has contended with blood clot problems and had two toes on his left foot amputated.
Sanders mostly avoided addressing his health earlier this month at Big 12 Media Days.
"I'm already back," the 57-year-old told ESPN July 9. "I'm here today. I'm handling my responsibilities. So, I look forward to it. I can't wait. You've got to understand, some of the young (players) I haven't even met yet. I'm so excited about that."
In a social media video posted July 20, the Colorado coach told his son, Deion Sanders Jr., "You know I'm still going through something," before following up with "I ain't all the way recovered."
Sanders will also face more challenges on the field once the new season kicks off. Colorado will no longer have the benefit of two-way Travis Hunter or quarterback Shedeur Sanders in 2025. Hunter was the second overall selection in April's NFL Draft, while Shedeur fell to the fifth round.
Kaidon Salter transferred from Liberty to Colorado and will likely handle the Buffaloes' starting quarterback duties in 2025.
Colorado opens the regular season in Boulder against Georgia Tech Aug. 29.

Hughes admits Ellis impressed in surprise midfield role
Mark Hughes admits Jack Ellis impressed him in his surprise midfield role for Carlisle United. The Cumbrian defender was given a role in the centre by Hughes for the 2-0 win at Harrogate Town. And 21-year-old Ellis's positive display has given Hughes further food for thought. The head coach says he always felt Ellis's attributes could be worth testing in midfield. He got his chance alongside Callum Whelan on a day summer signing Josh Grant was out injured, while Ethan Robson started on the bench. 'You've heard me mention before that I think we probably lack a bit of physicality in there [midfield], and I thought Jack could come in,' said Hughes. 'I think he's been excellent in pre-season. I believe he's been one of our better players in the pre-season games he's taken part in, so I knew that he could go in there and do a job in terms of just breaking things up and getting us on the front foot. 'He certainly did that in the first half when we were on the front foot and jumping on those second balls. Knicks reserve guard could see increased role next season
New York Knicks guard Miles McBride could be the biggest beneficiary of Mike Brown being hired as the team's new head coach. Per SNY's Ian Begley, McBride could see an increased role compared to his role under Tom Thibodeau. 'We don't know how Knicks coach Mike Brown will deploy his rotation. But it's logical to think that McBride will play significant minutes with Clarkson and Yabusele,' Begley said. In the past, it would appear at times as though McBride wasn't being utilized properly in the rotation. Now with Brown, it's possible that McBride could see an increased role in the offense. McBride has the ability to play in several different types of lineups for the Knicks thanks to his ability to space the floor and defend at a high level. McBride himself spoke with Begley about sharing the second unit with new acquisitions Jordan Clarkson, and Guerschon Yabusele. 'Obviously (Clarkson's) a vet in this league. He's done great things,' McBride said, per Begley. 'Obviously, he can fill up the stat sheet and really score the ball at a high level. And obviously adding Geurschon as well. I think everybody's seen what he did in the Olympics and carrying that momentum into (last season), so we're really excited about him.' 'I feel like we're going to play fast, we're going to be using a lot of different guys,' he added. 'If you saw the Finals, they (Oklahoma City and Indiana) had a lot of depth on both teams, and I feel like we're all NBA guys. So if you're on the team, I feel like you're able to help out.' McBride averaged a career-best 9.5 points per game last season off the bench, and shot 37 percent from three-point range. Next year could be a breakout season for him should he get an increased role.
