Prep talk: Bellflower basketball team celebrates first league title since 1978

Zach Carter, a 34-year-old walk-on head coach, has guided Bellflower High to its first league basketball championship since 1978 in his second season as a head coach. That's impressive.
Carter was a protege of Patrick Roy, having been an assistant at Inglewood and St. Paul. The team is 20-8 and won the Mid-Cities League title with a 50-47 win over Downey on Tuesday night.
'It was crazy,' Carter said of the reaction in the gym. 'The fans, the principal.'
Senior point guards Deacon Botts and EJ Andrews and 6-5 senior Derrick Martinez have led the Buccaneers.
'The kids just worked hard,' Carter said. 'I've always preached culture.'
Huntington Beach has named former Loyola offensive coordinator Matthew Hatchette its new football coach.

Money in the Bank 2025 date: WWE Money in the Bank match card and predictions

Want to see two WWE wrestlers become future champions in 10 easy steps? Even less if they're tall. It's Money in the Bank weekend and the men and women of WWE are ready to put on a show full of bumps, bruises and falling off ladders. Advertisement This year's show has four matches featured, including a huge tag team all-star match, a Women's Intercontinental championship match and the two Money in the Bank clashes. It should be fun. Here's everything you need to know about the show. When is Money in the Bank? WWE's Money in the bank will be held Saturday, June 10. What time does Money in the Bank start? Money in the Bank starts at 7 p.m. How to watch Money in the Bank In the United States, WWE Money in the Bank will air live on Peacock. It will also be available on traditional pay per view for $44.99. Where is Money in the Bank? WWE's Money in the Bank will be held at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California. Does Money in the Bank have a kickoff show? A kickoff show will begin at 6 p.m. Eastern, one hour before the show. It will likely begin after WWE Worlds Collide. It will air on WWE's Youtube page and on Peacock. How long is Money in the Bank? While it's impossible to say, it looks like the card will be about three hours. It's starting at 7, and TKO won't have Money in the Bank air the same time as UFC 316. Will Steve Austin be at UFC 316? If he's not, he should be. WWE Money in the Bank match card Men's Money in the Bank match: Solo Sikoa vs. LA Knight vs. Seth Rollins vs. Penta vs. Andrade vs. El Grande Americano Women's Money in the Bank match: Giulia vs. Stephanie Vaquer vs. Naomi vs. Roxanne Perez vs. Alexa Bliss vs. Rhea Ripley Lyra Valkyria vs. Becky Lynch, Women's Intercontinental championship match Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso vs. John Cena and Logan Paul Money in the Bank predictions There are four matches on the card, which is one less than normal, but that could be thanks to the length of the ladder matches. Here's how we see it playing out. Men's Money in the Bank match Everyone has Seth Rollins as the favorite, but I think he has too many enemies to win this. Sure he has friends, but so many are out to get him. He's a longshot, but I'm sticking with my boy Solo Sikoa to grab the briefcase. He needs it. He's done a lot to make other people look good, he's built other guys, he's been everything WWE could want. Put the belt on him and let him go toe to toe with Jacob Fatu. I'm predicting Solo Sikoa wins. Women's Money in the Bank match Once again, I'm going with the wrestler who deserves it the most. All are deserving, all are capable of big things, but Naomi is who I'm going with. She helped Jade Cargill look great at WrestleMania, and while she held up her end of the bargain, Naomi was the veteran leading that match. She's been a pretty entertaining bad girl, and I'd like to see her with some gold. Naomi wins. Lyra Valkyria vs. Becky Lynch Becky Lynch has helped make Lyra Valkyria a star. And Valkyria is doing her best to hang right there with one of the best women in the world. Guess what? She doesn't at all look out of place. Not in the ring, not even on the microphone where Lynch is one of the best. I thought Valkyria was the star last month and she was great leading up to this rematch. I think she does it again. Valkyria wins. Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso vs. John Cena and Logan Paul This match has two of my favorites (Jey Uso, Logan Paul) and two of the biggest stars in the world. But I have little interest in it. It will be fun, and I'm looking forward to what this match leads to, so that will be cool, but I have little interest in who wins. I'm banking on the bad guys winning, and I think Uso and Paul will make the match fun. Cena's matches haven't been good during this championship run. I hope he somehow wins without kicking someone low. Prediction: Logan Paul and John Cena win. Mid-American Canoe and Kayak Race a tradition that draws people every year to the Fox River

The annual Mid-American Canoe and Kayak Race on Saturday drew people from all over to the Fox River, including Steve Aydt of Arlington Heights and his 16-year-old daughter Abby. 'This is something my dad has done, but for me it's my first time,' Abby said with a big smile on Saturday morning along the river in St. Charles. 'I'm not sure how this is going to go but I think it will be fun.' First held in 1961, the event sponsored by the Fox Valley Park District included both competitive and recreational divisions. Launch points were offered in St. Charles for a 10-mile course and Batavia for a six-mile course, with both courses ending in Aurora. Facility manager at the Fox Valley Park District's Prisco Community Center Lynn Piotrowski, the coordinator of the event, spoke Thursday before the race and said some recent rain helped the event by increasing water speed on the river without causing any danger. 'With the race we have inched back up to comfortable speeds as we're at 760 cubic feet per second which is low but not painfully low,' she said. 'Earlier we were down in the 400 range and we popped up a bit.' She said the event remains a popular one. 'We have a total of 292 participants and 200 boats, which is right on target where we were last year. We're excited about that as our numbers came up a lot in the last week,' she said. 'Our numbers actually doubled in the last week and a half. I think a lot of people were holding out to see what the weather would do after the crazy weather of last year.' A steady stream of participants were gathered in bright sunshine at the launch point at Mt. St. Mary Park in St. Charles on Saturday morning. Steve Aydt said he has participated in the race for a few years. 'We signed up for the competitive race but we're going to go at our own pace and enjoy the day,' he said about his daughter and himself. 'I'm not here to break a record. This is a great way to spend time with my daughter and a day on the water.' Jerry Grimes of Aurora said that he had participated in the annual local race 'over 40 times.' 'More than that, we started in 1981. It's a family event. I've got my nephew here and his dad. We're in the adult-youth division,' he said. 'We've won our division a number of times but there are other canoes out here that are just unbelievable.' Jeff Grimes, 16, who said he would be competing with his uncle Jerry, said this was his third year doing the race and that the hardest part of racing 'is going out by the dams.' 'You have to avoid the dams and then getting out and going back in,' he said. Peter Leonard of St. Charles said he has come to the race 'a dozen times.' 'This is the only race I go to because it's local,' he said. 'I like that this is traditional and it gets people from all over and is put on very well by the park district.'
