Will Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce be at the 2025 ESPY Awards?

USA Today16-07-2025
The sports world is gathering Wednesday night to celebrate the best of the last year with the 2025 ESPY Awards. Some of the biggest names from the court, field, diamond, pool and more are coming together in Los Angeles at the Dolby Theater to hand out trophies and recognize the iconic moments in sports.
High profile athletes like Steph Curry, Ilona Maher, Caitlin Clark, Simone Biles, Josh Allen, Alexander Ovechkin and Saquon Barkley are nominated and expected to be in attendance. The awards ceremony will be hosted by comedian Shane Gillis, and it gets underway at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN.
With such big name stars attending, can fans expect Kansas City tight end Travis Kelce and his pop star girlfriend, Taylor Swift, to walk the red carpet for the event?
While you should never say never, it's unlikely that the The Tortured Poets Department singer makes it this time around. People shared Wednesday morning that Swift's father, Scott, recently underwent major heart surgery, and the singer has been at his side during the recovery process. According to People's reporting, Swift's mother and brother have also been providing support, and the surgery was the result of something caught during a routine check up.
Kelce, who recently played in the American Century Championship out at Lake Tahoe, could be in attendance, but it's unconfirmed.

NFL players, employees fined for selling Super Bowl tickets: reports

More than 100 NFL players and dozens of club employees are to be fined or suspended for selling their allocations of tickets for this year's Super Bowl on secondary markets, US media reported on Friday. ESPN reported that players who sold allotted tickets will be fined one-and-a-half times the face value of the tickets sold and be barred from receiving tickets to the next two editions of the Super Bowl. Players amongst those caught will be given the option of purchasing tickets if their team reaches the Super Bowl in 2026 or 2027. Players who decline to pay the fines face being suspended, ESPN cited league and union sources as saying. ESPN quoted an NFL memo sent to teams which said employees and players had sold tickets to "bundlers" working with a ticket resale site. Tickets to the Super Bowl are consistently one of the hottest -- and most expensive -- tickets in North American sport, fetching as much as $10,000 on resale sites. "Our initial investigation has determined that a number of NFL players and coaches, employed by several NFL Clubs, sold Super Bowl tickets for more than the ticket's face value in violation of the policy," NFL chief compliance officer Sabrina Perel wrote in the memo. Perel cited "long-standing league policy" which "prohibits League or club employees, including players, from selling NFL game tickets acquired from their employer for more than the ticket's face value or for an amount greater than the employee originally paid for the ticket, whichever is less." Perel added that the league will enhance mandatory training before Super Bowl LX for all league personnel to emphasize the rules and "the broader principle that no one should profit personally from their NFL affiliation at the expense of our fans." The league, meanwhile, also planned to improve training to avoid a repeat, with the possibility of stiffer sanctions for future offenses. "No one should profit personally from their NFL affiliation at the expense of our fans," Perel wrote in the memo. rcw/js

Paul Finebaum praises Dabo Swinney, says Cade Klubnik is better QB than LSU's Nussmeier

Finebaum: Swinney is player's coach who has 'transformed' with where college football is now. ESPN's Paul Finebaum has taken plenty of shots at Dabo Swinney through the years, but the veteran college football commentator continued with his apparent about-face on the Clemson coach Friday on "Get Up." Finebaum joined host Mike Greenberg and studio panelists Harry Douglass, Mike Tannenbaum and Damien Woody to discuss some of the top storylines entering the 2025 college football season. In one segment, Greenberg replayed Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik's comments from ACC Kickoff in which the former 5-star recruit from Austin, Texas, recalled how Swinney had stuck with him after a shaky 2023 season that included four losses. "After my sophomore year, when everybody kind of told me I sucked and wasn't very good, a lot of people wanted me out of Clemson," Klubnik said Thursday. "Coach Swinney pulled me into his office and told me, 'Cade, I believe in you and let's go to work.' ... When he could have gone and done what a lot of other coaches would do, but didn't and pulled me in tight and said I believe in you. I'll never forget that moment." Finebaum praised Swinney for sticking with Klubnik and said that the Clemson coach had gradually "transformed" with where the game is now -- and that it might be enough fuel to help a Tigers return to the national championship game this season. "Greeny, I don't think I need to remind you how many times I've been here talking about how Dabo's dynasty is done -- oh, maybe five or six. But what Dabo Swinney has done, he has transformed with where we are in college football. And at the core, he is a player's coach. His players love him, and that moment that we heard yesterday in Charlotte was significant, and it may be the fuel that helps Clemson come back from where they have been to possibly playing for a national championship. And that's the reason (for) the coach-player relationship, and Dabo has it with many others, as well." Finebaum said last week that Swinney had returned Clemson to national title contender status and added: "I think this is his best team since the 2019 title run." What a difference a year makes. Finebaum says Cade Klubnik is better QB than LSU's Garrett Nussmeier In a round of "Fact or Fiction" during Friday's episode of Get Up, Greenberg asked Finebaum whether it was a fact that Klubnik was a better quarterback than Nussmeier. Finebaum's answer: "That's fact, and we're splitting hairs here because these are the two best quarterbacks in the country. Nussmeier is the son of a coach. He is well-prepared, but I like Klubnik better in the clutch. I saw Nussmeier make too many mistakes under pressure, tried to do way too much." Klubnik threw for 3,639 yards and 36 touchdowns to only six interceptions in 14 games last season while leading Clemson to 10 wins, an ACC championship, and the program's first College Football Playoff appearance since 2020. Nussmeier threw for more yards (4,052) than Klubnik a year ago and helped lead LSU to six straight wins and a No. 8 ranking after their season-opening loss to USC. But he had costly turnovers in losses to Texas A&M and Alabama as part of a three-game losing streak that dropped Brian Kelly's team from playoff contention. LSU finished 9-4 after a win over Baylor in the Texas Bowl. Clemson and LSU will open the season at Memorial Stadium on Aug. 30 at 7:30 p.m. ET. The game will be televised on ABC. Prior to their relationship, Swift was romantically linked with a number of other celebrities, including Matty Healy of the band The 1975. On Thursday, Healy's mother, actress Denise Welch, shared some thoughts about the pop star in an interview with "Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen." When asked about the songs that Swift was rumored to have written about Healy for her 2024 album " The Tortured Poets Department," Welch responded, "Obviously, on pain of death can I talk about that episode, but being her mother-in-law is a role that I am glad that I lost.' After the audience gasped, Welch clarified, "Not that I have anything against her at all! It was just ... it was tricky. Look, you're 'not supposed to say anything about it,' but then she writes a whole album about it." According to People, Healy and Swift were linked in May 2023; Healy was spotted attending Swift's Eras Tour concert in Nashville that same month. The pair reportedly broke up the following month. Welch said that her son "has taken it all in completely good grace," adding that Healy is currently "very happy with his amazing fiancee Gabriella ... so, we've moved on." Healy and model-actress Gabriella "Gabbriette" Bechtel announced their engagement in June 2024, according to People.
