Hit and run leaves two women in hospital as driver fled scene
The driver of a white Ford Transit flat left the scene on foot.
Two female pensioners have been rushed to hospital following a hit and run with a van on a busy Scots road.
On Thursday May 29 at around 11.10am, emergency crews raced to the A6094 near to Rosewell after receiving reports of a collision involving a white Ford Transit flat bed and a red Renault Captur.
The driver of the van left the scene on foot and headed north along the A6094 before the emergency services arrived.
Two women, aged 68 and 69, were taken to hospital for treatment to minor injuries.
Constable Stewart Logan has appealed to the driver and anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward.
He said: "We are keen to speak with the man who was driving the van or anyone who stopped at the crash and spoke with him before he left.
"We are also looking to speak with any further witnesses or anyone with information or dashcam who has yet to contact police. If you believe you can assist, please call 101, quoting incident 1162 of 29 May."
Yesterday, in a separate incident, we reported that a Scots schoolboy is in a "serious condition" in hospital after being hit by a car near an school in Edinburgh.
The seven-year-old was struck by a vehicle on Ferry Road in the capital at around 6.30pm on Friday night. It is understood the crash took place near Oaklands Primary School.
He was rushed to the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
Cops remain at the scene and a cordon has been erected while they carry out full enquiries.
An investigation has also been launched into the crash.
Images from the scene show several police cars in the residential area and police tape cornering off the scene.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "We were made aware of a collision involving a car and a seven-year-old male pedestrian which happened on Ferry Road in Edinburgh shortly after 6.35pm on Friday, 30 May.
"The boy has been taken to the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People for treatment. His injuries are serious but not described as life threatening.
"Enquiries are ongoing and the road is currently closed."

Colorado terror attack victims left with 'life-threatening' injuries
The terrifying incident targeted an organised demonstration at a shopping centre. Several people have been left with burn injuries, some potentially life-threatening, after a suspect launched Molotov cocktails at a pro-Israel demonstration on Sunday afternoon. The shocking incident in Boulder, Colorado on June 1 resulted in injuries ranging from "very serious to more minor", according to Boulder Police Chief Stephen Redfearn. The incident has been branded as an act of terrorism by the FBI, with local police advising their investigation is still being carried out. Chief Officer Redfearn added it is "too early to speculate motive". Colorado Governor Jared Polis said in a statement he was "closely monitoring" the situation after criticising the "hate-filled act", which he described as "unacceptable". According to CNN, Donald Trump has already been briefed about the incident. The state's Attorney General, Phil Weiser, a descendant of Holocaust survivors, said the attack seems to be "a hate crime given the group that was targeted." The demonstration had been organised by Run For Their Lives, a global initiative set up following the start of the war on October 7, 2023, to demand the immediate release of Israeli hostages in Gaza. Ex-Livingston star Keaghan Jacobs, 35, faces court over claims he intentionally earned a yellow card in a 2019 match vs Celtic to aid a betting scam. A former SPFL star is due to appear in court accused of deliberately getting himself booked in an attempt to cheat at gambling. Keaghan Jacobs, 35, is alleged to have picked up a yellow card on purpose while playing for Livingston in a Scottish Premiership league match against Celtic. He is said to have 'acted in a manner whereby he would receive a yellow card for the purpose of enabling or assisting others to cheat at gambling ' during the clash at his team's Tony Macaroni stadium on October 6, 2019. The case against Jacobs, from Edinburgh, and McDiarmid, from Bonnyrigg, Midlothian, called at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last week. Proceedings against Jacobs were continued without plea to later this month. McDiarmid's lawyer lodged a not guilty plea. A trial date was set for later this year. The match involved in the alleged betting scam saw Livingston secure a 2-0 win, handing the Hoops their first defeat of the season. Jacobs was shown the yellow card by referee Willie Collum for a foul on winger Jonny Hayes as the game was coming to a close in the 95th minute. Jacobs is a South African national who had two spells with Livingston between 2007 and 2015 and again between 2017 and 2022. The star has played a total of 252 times for the West Lothian club and scored 23 goals. He has also turned out for South African club Bidvest Wits, Falkirk, Arbroath and is currently playing with Lowland League club Gala Fairydean Rovers. Brother of murdered Glasgow taxi boss vows to get justice 23 years on
He believes his brother was killed by three men and has given detectives the name of a fourth – a Glasgow businessman – who sanctioned the hit. The brother of a taxi firm owner murdered 23 years ago has vowed to finally get justice for his loved ones. Businessman Alexander Blue was attacked outside his luxury home in Glasgow's West End in 2002 and died two days later from his head injuries. His older brother Billy, 67, and mum Kathy, 91, are desperate to see the case solved after more than two decades of pain. But they fear they're running out of time as yet another anniversary nears. Billy recently underwent major surgery while Kathy requires constant care. Billy believes his brother was killed by three men and has given detectives the name of a fourth – a Glasgow businessman – who sanctioned the hit. He claims one man lured his brother out of his home while two others were waiting to overpower him. In an exclusive interview with the Record, Billy said: 'Alex needed someone familiar to put him at ease, to distract him, because Alex was a big guy and could look after himself. 'Alex was clearly taken by surprise by someone he trusted. He would not normally have given up without a struggle.' He insists there is enough evidence to bring the killers to justice. Billy, of Robroyston, Glasgow, added: 'It should never have taken this long and the evidence is there. 'The police are quite aware of who was behind my brother's death. There is no mystery about this. The dogs on the street know who killed Alex. 'It's time to bring those responsible to justice.' Alex, then 41, was last seen studying business papers at about 8pm in his favourite coffee bar, just off Byres Road, on the night he was attacked. Police got a telephone call just before 12.30am on June 25. A neighbour had found Alex unconscious in a pool of blood in the drive of his Dundonald Road home. The door of his Porsche was open, as was the door to his home. But nothing had been stolen. His injuries were so bad his mum didn't recognise him when she saw him in hospital. In the early days of the probe, detectives faced major obstacles. Officers hit a wall of silence, with few clues and no eye-witnesses. Police Scotland said: 'This is obviously still a difficult time for the Blue family who have suffered distress and heartache over the last two decades as they seek answers and justice for Alexander. 'Police Scotland never considers cases closed and this case remains under review.'
