Delhi CM Rekha Gupta requests Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to rename Old Delhi Railway Station

India Gazette01-07-2025
New Delhi [India], July 1 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday wrote to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and requested him to rename the Old Delhi Railway Station as Maharaja Agrasen Railway Station.
CM Gupta wrote, 'I am writing to respectfully request your kind consideration for renaming the Old Delhi Railway Station in honour of Maharaja Agrasen, a revered historical figure whose legacy has had a profound impact on the socio-economic development of India, particularly in Delhi.'
She mentioned that Maharaja Agrasen is regarded as a symbol of social justice and welfare, and has played a pivotal role in shaping Delhi.
'Maharaja Agrasen is widely regarded as a symbol of social justice, economic foresight, and community welfare. His countless followers and descendants continue to play a pivotal role in shaping Delhi's economic and cultural landscape,' she wrote.
Calling it a fitting tribute to the Maharaja Agrasen, she added, 'Renaming the Old Delhi Railway Station as Maharaja Agrasen Railway Station would serve as a fitting tribute to his enduring contributions and would deeply resonate with the sentiments of millions of Delhi residents who hold him in the highest esteem. I would be truly grateful for your personal intervention in facilitating favourable and expeditious consideration of this proposal by your esteemed Ministry.'
According to the website of the Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Corporation, the Old Delhi Railway Station in Delhi, that is, the Delhi Junction Railway Station, was built like a fort, with two opposite sides, namely Kashmere Gate and Chandni Chowk. The two localities are linked by an elevated pedestrian bridge called Kodiya Pul.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Jal Board, under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, has rolled out a 45-point action plan aimed at enhancing the capital's water infrastructure, upgrading sewerage networks, increasing transparency in tanker services, and rejuvenating the heavily polluted Yamuna River. The comprehensive plan, backed by a budget of Rs 9,000 crore, is targeted for completion by next year, a senior official confirmed. (ANI)

Online gaming companies move to shut paid operations as gaming Bill gets Rajya Sabha nod

The Rajya Sabha's approval of the online gaming Bill Thursday has drawn the final curtain on India's booming real-money gaming industry. What was once a bustling digital arena of wagers and winnings now stands eerily silent, as leading platforms suspend paid play and others fold entirely. Lawmakers hail the measure as a shield against harm, but to thousands of workers and millions of players, it feels like the lights have dimmed on a once-thriving stage. Opinion trading platform Probo, in a message displayed on its app, said that 'in light of recent developments, we have paused all recharge activities in your best interest,' while requesting users to withdraw funds. Dream11, the country's biggest fantasy sports app and the Indian cricket team's main jersey sponsor, also communicated to its employees that it will wind down its real money operations. Zupee, another gaming platform, said it was discontinuing paid games, with users able to play free titles. 'Everyone will shut down paid operations for now, as the industry prepares a legal roadmap to challenge the law,' a senior gaming industry executive said. The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025, now passed by both houses of Parliament, outlaws online money gaming services and penalises their celebrity endorsers. The Bill has been drafted over national security concerns related to online gaming platforms, including the use of digital wallets and cryptocurrencies for money laundering and illicit fund transfers, these platforms serving as potential messaging and communication grounds for terror organisations, and offshore entities circumventing Indian tax and legal obligations, among others. The government will prohibit any person from offering online games in India, failing which they could be imprisoned for up to three years, and penalised Rs 1 crore. Those promoting such platforms, such as social media influencers, will also face jail time of two years, and a penalty of Rs 50 lakh. The government will also prohibit banks and financial institutions from facilitating financial transactions on such platforms. The Bill applies to all online money gaming platforms irrespective of whether they are games of skill or chance, a distinction the industry had lobbied hard for in the past. The Bill said that the unchecked expansion of online money gaming services has been linked to 'unlawful activities including financial fraud, money-laundering, tax evasion, and in some cases, the financing of terrorism, thereby posing threats to national security, public order and the integrity of the State'. The parallel proliferation of online money games accessible through mobile phones, computers and the internet, and offering monetary returns against user deposits has led to 'serious social, financial, psychological and public health harms, particularly among young individuals and economically disadvantaged groups,' it said.

Maha counter to US tariff: 100 tweaks to boost biz

Mumbai: At a meeting on Thursday to discuss challenges posed by US tariffs to exports, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said the state should make 100 amendments to improve the Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) in the state. He also said a War Room will be set up to improve the EoDB policy, which will be reviewed every month. Fadnavis said the state should find alternative markets for its goods. He also said imposition of tariffs should not be treated not as a disaster but as an opportunity to improve the EoDB. Of the state's exports to the US, the bulk is gems and jewellery (38.9%), followed by Electronics and ESDM (17.6%), chemicals (8%), engineering goods and auto components (7.7%), textiles and apparel (7%), plastics (5.2%) and agro and marine products (4.9%). Besides, we are focusing on clearing the backlog on incentives given to industrial units and Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)," said a senior official who attended the meeting. The state has already cleared incentives worth Rs 1,300 crore to MSMEs recently and the clearance of incentives worth another Rs 2,500 crore is on the cards. Since MSMEs work on limited capital, the state is focusing on helping them cope. Fadnavis also said entrepreneurs should be encouraged to set up private industrial parks for which the MIDC should come up with a plan. The single window portal for industry licenses should be made more efficient so that no permission is required for agro-based industries over an area of five hectares in the state. The pollution fines for industries that do not harm the environment should be revised and additional fines should not be levied anywhere, Fadnavis said. Arrangements should be made to reduce time taken to obtain permissions. The process of calculating the land required for the industry should be expedited, he added. The state plans to create a land bank to arrange plots for setting up industries immediately. It plans to make the plot distribution process transparent and fast, and make arrangements for issuing environmental permits within 60 days. It also plans to create a 'Dedicated Export Portal' to increase exports. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). CM: Mughals, British looted India, SP & Cong erased nation's identity

1 2 Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday accused the Congress and the Samajwadi Party of pushing the country into an identity crisis after centuries of Mughal loot and British exploitation. Speaking at the inauguration of the Rs 750-crore Shree cement plant in Etah, he said the two parties never worked for inclusive development, serving only their families while leaving traders and women unsafe. In contrast, he said, the double-engine govt's clear policies and zero tolerance for crime have taken UP to new heights of development. The Etah cement plant will generate 500 direct jobs in the area, a sign of progress in a region which, before 2017, was only known for crime and mafia, the CM said. Yogi said when Congress was in govt at the Centre, even cement was rationed and could only be procured through connections, which made a huge dent in the construction sector. "How could development happen with such intent and policies? Contrasting this with today's growth, India, which fell to the 11th place in the world economy by 2014 due to Congress and SP policies, has now risen to the 4th place under PM Modi and is set to become the third-largest economy within two years," he said. He alleged that the two opposition parties only worked for their families and never thought about inclusive development, leaving traders and women highly unsafe in the state. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Etah district, once synonymous with crime and mafia, land encroachment, and harassment of the poor, is now a hub of investment and industry, he added. Yogi outlined that the Jawaharpur thermal power plant near the new cement plant generates 1,500MW of power, while Shree Cement's unit created 500 direct jobs and more than 3,000 indirect jobs. He called this the real foundation of an Atmanirbhar and Viksit Bharat, where investment was leading to not just jobs but also strengthening trade, transport, and distribution networks. He credited this turnaround to strict action against mafia and rioters, which restored investor confidence in the state. "UP has received investment proposals worth Rs 45 lakh crore, out of which Rs 15 lakh crore have already been grounded, creating employment for 60 lakh youth. In addition to this, 60,244 youths, including many from Etah, were recruited into the police on merit. Under Mukhyamantri Yuva Yojana, 70,000 young entrepreneurs have received interest-free, guarantee-free loans to establish their own enterprises," he said. The CM highlighted Etah's traditional craft, praising the bell and 'ghunguru' industry for remaining an integral part of temple worship and music gatherings. He linked this cultural heritage with modern development, stating how this would become the basis of a Viksit UP-2047. "In the Assembly and Legislative Council, a 24-hour discussion was held on key sectors, and experts will now visit every district to train youth and prepare district-level roadmaps with public participation," he said. The CM assured full cooperation from govt to investors, adding: "The state will honour every promise made under its industrial policy. With modern infrastructure, four-lane connectivity, and welfare schemes, Etah will soon scale new heights of development." Praising Shree Cement, Yogi said the company was not only generating employment but also fulfilling its social responsibility. The Etah unit has so far provided free cement to 183 families of martyrs. "When our soldiers showed courage in Operation Sindoor, it was possible because the nation stood united. Shree Cement's contribution strengthens this national spirit," he noted. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
