The New York Giants signed Jermaine Eluemunor to replace right tackle Evan Neal in 2024. He did so successfully, but in the process, he became a leader in the Giants locker room. Further, he became a mentor to Neal.

Now, Neal is embarking on a new journey. Pushed out of a starting job, Neal is hoping to save his career by moving to guard.
Finally healthy, New York has granted him that opportunity in the offseason. While he isn't necessarily challenging for a starting spot any time soon, his transition seems to be going well.
On Wednesday, Eluemunor previewed Neal's position change.
'I think that he's truly bought into it, and it's been cool for me to just watch the tape and just, he's a humongous dude,' Eluemunor told reporters. '… Obviously him going from tackle to guard is a big transition. And I've done it myself a couple times in my career, so to see him buying into it and to see how serious he's taking it is really cool to see.

'And I think that he can be a really good player. I was telling him, I was like, if you lock in and you truly buy into this, you can be a really good guard just from seeing how he's done in the spring. I'm excited to see him in the summer and putting pads on.'
The writing has been on the wall for the second first-round pick of the Giants' 2022 NFL Draft. But inside, there's reason to believe he could find more success. Rather than facing off against uber-athletic edge rushers and having to operate in space, Neal can rely more on his anchor to win between the tackles.
Even so, the speed of the game is a bit different at guard. Perhaps that will allow Neal's aggressiveness to shine. That timing, Eluemunor says, will be paramount.
'I'd say the speed,' Eluemunor said. 'Everything at guard is bang, bang. At tackle, it's more patience and you have to be willing – you have to know when to strike at tackle essentially. At guard, those big guys like Dexter (Lawrence) they are on you within a millisecond and you got to be able to figure out what you need to do and how you can defeat them when you are blocking and ultimately win the block within a matter of seconds because if not, then they're going to be on the quarterback.'

Neal has been much better in the run game than pass protection as a pro, and kicking inside should emphasize that strength. If he can win with the same skills that made him a top-10 pick, there's room for him to make up ground on a rookie contract that's underwater.
He already has Eluemunor's seal of approval.
'The sky is the limit for him, he's a talented kid and I think that he can be a really good player.'

Advertisement Mason has already been seen catching touchdown passes from Justin Fields at OTAs and minicamp, so it appears he is settling in quite well to Tanner Engstrand's offense. Yes, it's against the air, but Mason is showing the potential to not only be a good blocker for the offense but to be a genuine passing option for Fields. With only Garrett Wilson seen as a genuine threat, having Taylor working the underneath routes to help keep the chains moving could be the ace up Engstrand's sleeve. Once training camp begins, we will be able to truly evaluate Taylor as a member of this offense, but one NFC coach already seems sold. The Jets landed Membou with the No. 7 overall selection in the draft, solidifying their offensive line. Advertisement The former Missouri Tiger joins a youthful and fortified line, flanked by young stars such as Olu Fashanu and Alijah Vera-Tucker. Membou has been highly lauded by draft and college analysts for his technique, athleticism and potential. On top of his All-Pro potential, Membou is expected to make an instant impact, already penciled in as the starting tackle opposite of Fashanu. Gennaro Filice compiled his All-Rookie team of 11 rookies who he thinks will make an instant impact on offense. The lead tackle on the lead? Membou. "Entering this past April's draft, the Jets' offensive line boasted a capable starter at four of the five slots." Filice wrote. "So, one year after the old regime used its last first-round pick on an athletic left tackle (Olu Fashanu), the new regime used its first first-rounder on a mauler to man the right edge." Filice feels confident about Membou's physical tools and technique. Membou isn't all flashy in athletic and physical tests, but he's a legit protector in the pass game. Advertisement "At a touch over 6-4 and 332 pounds, Membou put on an impressive athletic display at the NFL Scouting Combine." Filice wrote. "But the 21-year-old's no simple 'workout warrior,' as he spent the last three years making a name for himself in the SEC. Taking over as Missouri's right tackle midway through his true freshman season back in 2022, Membou ultimately played 36 games (with 30 starts) for the Tigers, giving up a grand total of three sacks, including zero this past season." Membou has high expectations as a pass protector. But that's not his only job. As a tackle, he has to be able to lay down blocks and protect his running back or a scrambling quarterback. And Filice thinks he's well equipped for the job. "And in the ground game, he was a violent road-grader who routinely climbed to the second level to bury overmatched defenders -- this undoubtedly caught the eyes of new head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey, who are looking to build a stout rushing attack around quarterback Justin Fields." "Fields can pass the eye test with flying colors; he looks the part with his athleticism, which once helped him clear 1,100 rushing yards (!) as the Bears' starter," CBS Sports writes. "Still, he's now on his third team in five seasons, and neither of his previous clubs could figure out how to prioritize ball protection while maximizing his gifts." The physical gifts are clear to see, but can Fields "play" quarterback to a high-enough level when he can be the driver for Tanner Engstrand's offense?
