Abe Lucas talks about first impressions of Sam Darnold
I'm not sure if you've heard, but the Seattle Seahawks have a new quarterback for 2025 and his name is Sam Darnold. While Darnold may be new to the organization and the Pacific Northwest, he's not an unknown to all of his teammates... including those tasked with keeping him upright.
Following Seattle's OTA practice on Wednesday, right tackle Abe Lucas took to the media to talk about the team. He was asked about his new quarterback and what his first impressions were. Lucas actually went back to his college days and used one example in particular that will surely excite Coug fans everywhere in the state and around the country.
The Cougars were hosting No. 5 ranked USC in Pullman, and it became another classic edition of Pac-12 After Dark. Washington State helped spoil the Trojans' playoff hopes by handing them a 30-27 defeat... their first loss of the season, and their only conference loss. It became one of the defining victories in the Mike Leach era, showing the Cougars were here to stay as a legitimate opponent in college football.
Darnold did not enjoy his only visit to the Palouse, as he completed only 15-of-29 passes for 164 yards and an interception. Darnold did rush for 25 yards and scored two touchdowns on the ground, but overall, not a stellar outing. He was also sacked five times, adding another example of how pressure can truly affect his game.
This is something Abe Lucas, his former rival from that day, will now have to find a way to avoid for his new signal caller. There are no more Cougars or Trojans, only Seahawks.

Kyle Hendricks earned the 100th win of his career, Ryan Zeferjahn, Reid Detmers and Kenley Jansen combined for three innings of scoreless relief, and the Los Angeles Angels held on for a 5-4 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Friday night. Hendricks (3-6) gave up four runs and eight hits in six innings, striking out two and walking two. The 35-year-old right-hander escaped a jam in the fifth inning. Taylor, the veteran utility man who was signed after the Dodgers released him on May 18, also singled with two outs, stole second and scored on Zach Neto's RBI single for a 1-all tie in the third. Travis d'Arnaud followed Jorge Soler's two-out single with a two-run homer for a 3-3 tie in the fourth. The Mariners scored once in the third on J.P. Crawford's RBI single and twice in the fourth on Rowdy Tellez's sacrifice fly and Leody Taveras' RBI groundout. Key moment Julio Rodriguez jumped high above the wall to rob Taylor of a potential two-run homer to end the sixth. The Seattle center fielder teased Angels fans who thought the ball was gone by taking several steps on the warning track before flipping the ball from his glove to his throwing hand. Key stat Detmers, the converted starter who had a 10.05 ERA through 12 appearances this season, has allowed one earned run in 12 innings of his last 11 games, striking out 17 and walking seven in that span. He has lowered his ERA to 5.81. Up next RHP Luis Castillo (4-3, 3.03 ERA) will start Saturday for the Mariners. RHP Jack Kochanowicz (3-7, 5.34 ERA) will pitch for the Angels.

Seattle man charged with string of burglaries at homes of NFL and MLB stars originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia A Seattle man was charged Friday with a string of burglaries at the homes of prominent current and former football and baseball players, marking the latest example of well-known athletes being targeted in home thefts. Earl Henderson Riley IV, 21, was charged with several counts of residential burglary in both occupied and unoccupied homes, along with first-degree robbery, according to the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office. Prosecutors say Riley was the ringleader in a series of burglaries that started in February and involved stealing more than $6,000 in Louis Vuitton bags from Seattle Mariners pitcher Luis Castillo's home and over $194,000 in high end purses and jewelry from the home of the team's center fielder Julio Rodriguez. The thefts also involved taking several watches worth more than $100,000 from former Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman's home and a burglary at the home of Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Blake Snell, who is from Washington, although nothing was stolen in that instance, according to court documents. Prosecutors say there was also an attempted burglary at baseball Hall of Famer Edgar Martinez's home. 'All people deserve to feel safe in their homes, and our office will continue to hold people accountable for criminal behavior,' King County Prosecuting Attorney Leesa Manion said in a statement. There have been a slew of burglaries at the homes of well-known professional athletes across the U.S. in recent months. The players have been targeted because of the high-end products believed to be in their homes and sometimes the thefts happen when they are away with their teams for road games. The FBI has warned sports leagues about crime organizations targeting professional athletes. The NFL and NBA have also issued security alerts after burglaries at the homes of such star athletes as Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. In a memo obtained by The Associated Press in November, the NFL said the homes of professional athletes across multiple sports have become 'increasingly targeted for burglaries by organized and skilled groups.' Riley is being held in the King County Jail on $1 million bail. It was not immediately clear whether he has a lawyer. The King County Department of Public Defense did not immediately respond to an email from The Associated Press and a spokesperson from the prosecuting attorney's office did not know whether Riley had a lawyer. The charges were the result of a monthslong investigation in which the county's prosecuting attorney's office worked with six police jurisdictions. Senior Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Gary Ernsdorff said in a statement that their work is not over. 'We still want to go and identify everybody who was involved and see if there are additional people that we can have sufficient evidence to charge,' he said. Riley is expected to enter his initial plea in court during his arraignment June 16. He has another pending case in King County Superior Court in which he is charged with attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle and unlawful possession of a firearm in the first degree.

The 34-year-old veteran utilityman scuffled at the plate like he had when wearing Dodger blue — and joined the Angels at the front end of a five-game losing streak. Friday night at Angel Stadium, Taylor put together his best game so far — going two for three with a game-tying RBI double in his first multi-hit performance of the season (his first since Sept. 27).
