Bengaluru basks in the vivid colours of The Real Van Gogh Immersive Experience
Many of the works by the Dutch Post-Impressionist are in museums around the world or in private collections, so a show such as this is an eye-opener to his oeuvre.
The Real Van Gogh Immersive Experience begins when you step into the cafe with its wooden benches and bright, yellow sunflowers to await your turn. The walls are dotted with a few of the artist's popular prints and a photo corner that is a replica of his Bedroom in Arles.
Shows are slotted every half hour and the first stop is the Education Room where sections of the artist's life are set against the backdrop of his art works, followed by a stint in the Infinity Room.
The Infinity Room, with thousands of serial lights strung up from the ceiling, pays homage to two of Van Gogh's most recognised works — The Starry Night and Starry Night Over the Rhone. Swathes of yellow and blue cover the floor, while distorted mirrors line the walls and ceiling, resulting in a swirl of colour and light.
A sense of illusion is complete as you wander around and you do lose track of time, in this fittingly named room. But, since re-entry into each space is not allowed, you really do not mind the amusingly contorted images that show up all around. However, seen as a window into the artist's despair it can be quite sobering.
The Immersive Room is where the magic unfolds and visitors can experience Gogh's art up close. Brush strokes and vivid colour come alive and the organisers have taken care to include some of his lesser known works such as Courtesan from his Japanese series and portraits of acquaintances, among the 70 hand-picked pieces on display.
After the 30-minute show, you exit via The Store where some of Van Gogh's most popular works adorn keychains, mugs, totes and t-shirts. Prints and postcards of his works are available too.
The Real Van Gogh Immersive Experience is at Bharatiya Mall Of Bengaluru till July 13, 2025. Tickets starting at ₹499 for children and ₹899 for adults available on District. From 10am to 9.30pm on weekends, from noon to 9.30pm Monday to Friday. Last entry at 9pm on all days.

King for a reason: Bollywood filmmaker still gushes over Shah Rukh Khan's kindness during Chak De, ‘He got it for me'
Director Ashima Chibber worked closely with Shah Rukh Khan during Chak De! India. She was an assistant director for the sports drama. The filmmaker recalled a touching memory from the Australia shoot. She was at the airport while the team waited for the players' flight. To pass the time, the then-budding filmmaker browsed books at a store and found an astronaut book she loved. But, it cost ₹ 6,000, so she put it back. For the contest, the book cost ₹ 6,000 in 2007. If we account for an average inflation rate of about 6% annually, the same book would cost more than ₹ 17,000 now. The next day, during the 'man-to-man marking' scene from the movie, King Khan called her. 'He was like, 'Look, what's lying here'. It was the book. He had obviously seen me reading it. He knew that I really liked that book. He knew that it was too expensive for me to afford at that time. He went there and got it for me,' an excited Chibber told Zoom. 'I still have that book. It's on my, like, you know, one of my prized possessions,' she added. The Bollywood filmmaker also recalled a dinner in Australia. During the shoot, Don was released. The entire team went to watch the film and then had dinner. With a massive group of cast and crew, the dinner bill was huge. Unsure how to handle it, Ashima nervously asked one of her colleagues. 'Please, not me. I don't even have that much in my account,' the colleague told her. 'Then, Shah Rukh sir said, 'Give it to me.' He took it from me. And, I was like, 'Sir, we'll go Dutch',' Ashima said during an interaction with Zoom. 'He looked at me. I think nobody had ever told him, 'Let's split the bill'. So, he was like, 'No. I am paying the bill.' And, I said, 'Okay, sir.',' Chibber said while laughing at the incident. Ashima Chibber is basking in the glory of Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway. After all, it earned Rani Mukerji her first National Award. SRK also got his first this year for Jawan.

Hundreds of historic tall ships heading for Amsterdam for maritime festival
Agency: Amsterdam, Aug 20 (AP) A flotilla of hundreds of historic ships was heading into Amsterdam on Wednesday, kicking off a five-day festival celebrating the Dutch capital's maritime history. Vessels from all over the world, their masts and rigging decorated with flags, left the North Sea coastal town of Ijmuiden to begin their hours-long journey up the North Sea Canal and into Amsterdam's Ij waterway for SAIL 2025, the first edition in a decade. A puff of orange smoke erupted into the sky and ships' horns sounded as the replica three-masted clipper Stad Amsterdam passed through a lock to mark the official start of the event. Each ship is greeted with two cannon shots and its country's national anthem as it enters the harbour. Hundreds of smaller vessels packed the waterways to watch the ships pass. The event, which draws hundreds of thousands of visitors, is held every five years. The 2020 edition was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Wednesday's parade culminates in an evening fireworks display. The ships will remain in Amsterdam, many open for visitors, through the weekend. The first event was first held in 1975 to celebrate Amsterdam's 700th anniversary and this year's edition coincides with the city's 750th birthday.
