Havildar Hangpan Dada made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in Kupwara district, Jammu & Kashmir, in May 2016 at the young age of 36. His extraordinary act of valour and unwavering dedication to duty proved instrumental in foiling a major infiltration attempt and preventing enemy forces from creating disturbances in the sensitive border state. In recognition of his supreme sacrifice and gallantry, he was posthumously awarded the Ashok Chakra, India's highest peacetime military decoration, in August 2016.
During the ceremony, Lt Gen Pendharkar personally interacted with the martyr's family, offering reassurance of the Army's and the nation's continued support. He also addressed ex-servicemen from Tirap and Longding districts, acknowledging their persistent commitment to national service.
"The sacrifice of brave soldiers like Havildar Hangpan Dada serves as an eternal reminder of the price of freedom and security," Lt Gen Pendharkar said.
MLA Wangling Lowangdong highlighted state govt's initiatives in honouring the martyr's memory.
"We have taken pride in renaming the CM's Trophy to the Hangpan Dada Memorial Trophy for both football and volleyball over the past eight years," Lowangdong said.
The MLA made an appeal to the state administration, urging consideration for naming important institutions after the decorated soldier.
"I appeal to the state govt to consider naming significant establishments — such as a Sainik School or other important institutions in the Capital Region, Itanagar — in honour of martyr Hangpan Dada," he said.
The ceremony concluded with a poignant presentation narrating the life and heroic deeds of martyr Hangpan Dada.

Gautam Adani visits Chinese equipment makers as US legal woes linger

Indian billionaire Gautam Adani traveled to China last week to meet industrial equipment manufacturers, marking what appears to be his first overseas trip since the US unveiled criminal and civil cases against him in November. The visit, including to a solar module maker, underscores Adani's continued efforts to maintain momentum in renewables even as he faces heightened scrutiny abroad. Sagar Adani , who oversees the green arm of the conglomerate's sprawling empire, accompanied his uncle on the trip, according to a social media post by one of the companies he visited. The trip to China could signal a renewed push for international engagement as Gautam Adani tries to shake off controversies, from US legal troubles to investor concerns about corporate governance practices, following a bruising short-seller report in early 2023. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Prices of Solar Panels Might Actually Surprise You Solar Panels | Search Ads Get Info Asia's second-richest person, along with his nephew Sagar, face criminal and civil charges in the US over their alleged involvement in a $250 million bribery scheme to pay regional officials in India to lock in solar-power contracts. — BROAD_ltd (@BROAD_ltd) Live Events The Adani Group has denied the claims, though both Gautam and Sagar have curtailed their international travel since the indictment was announced. The Indian conglomerate is building one of the largest renewable energy parks — five times the size of Paris — near India's western coast with solar panels and wind turbines. The billionaire visited a Jinko Solar Co. manufacturing plant, inspecting the facility's automated production lines, the Shanghai-based company said in a statement on June 4. Its energy storage solutions are well-suited to India's high-temperature conditions and will be integrated into Adani's projects to bolster grid stability and renewable energy absorption, it said. Adani also visited Broad Group's facilities, the Chinese firm said in a post on X. The company has a range of subsidiaries that includes a wind turbine manufacturer. A spokesperson for Adani didn't immediately comment. The group's renewable energy ramp up plans are crucial for two of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi 's policy pledges — making the country carbon neutral by 2070 and self-reliant, especially in manufacturing. India is one of the biggest markets for China's solar modules and Adani's visit could also signal room for better business ties between the two countries. While relations between the nuclear-armed neighbors remain fraught, there have recently been signs of a thawing. In January, they agreed to resume direct flights, facilitate visas and restart sharing data of trans-border rivers. A few months later, the nations announced the resumption of an annual pilgrimage to the Tibet Autonomous Region, organized by India's foreign ministry, that had been suspended for years after border clashes erupted.

Delhi cop held for taking Rs 10,000 bribe; caught red-handed at Govindpuri Police Station, tea stall owner also detained

File photo used for representational purpose. NEW DELHI: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Delhi Police , stationed at the Govindpuri Police Station in the South East district , was arrested on charges of accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000. The officer, whose identity has not yet been disclosed officially, allegedly accepted the bribe in return for providing undue relief to a man and his family members in connection with a criminal case registered against them. According to officials from the Delhi Police Vigilance Unit, the arrest took place at the Govindpuri police station itself. As per the initial investigation, the incident stemmed from a scuffle that erupted between the families of two brothers. This altercation led to the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) in which certain members of one family were named as accused. Following the registration of the FIR, the ASI allegedly demanded a bribe amounting to Rs 50,000 from the complainant in exchange for providing some form of relief, possibly in the form of leniency or influence over the investigation process. After some negotiation, the bribe amount was reportedly settled at Rs 10,000. Out of this agreed sum, Rs 5,000 was already paid to the police officer earlier. Interestingly, the money was not handed over directly to the ASI. According to a senior officer familiar with the case, a woman who runs a tea stall in the vicinity was acting as an intermediary and was entrusted with the task of collecting the bribe money on behalf of the policeman. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Buy Brass Idols - Handmade Brass Statues for Home & Gifting Luxeartisanship Buy Now Undo This woman also came under the scanner during the vigilance operation. The complainant, troubled by the illegal demand for money and possibly fearing further harassment, decided to approach the Delhi Police Vigilance Unit and reported the matter. Based on his detailed complaint and preliminary inquiry, vigilance officers formulated a plan to catch the corrupt officer red-handed while accepting the remaining Rs 5,000. A trap was laid for the second instalment of the bribe. The complainant was instructed to proceed as planned while being closely monitored by the vigilance team. As soon as the bribe money was handed over vigilance officers swiftly entered the station and apprehended the ASI. Alongside him, the woman who had been acting as a conduit for the bribe collection was also detained. An official investigation is now underway to gather all evidence and determine whether other individuals may have been complicit in the crime.
