Hyundai Alcazar officially priced as ‘facelift' Grand Creta
Name change not only represents a more upmarket push, but also as a means of separating the Alcazar from the now Indonesian-made Creta.

Teased for the first time last month, Hyundai, this past week, officially unveiled the facelift Grand Creta that finally adopts the Alcazar name it has been sold under in India since debuting in 2021.
Facelift means 'new' name
Approved for South Africa last year, the name change, according to Hyundai, represents a more upmarket product than the Grand Creta, with no inherent relation to the standard Creta which, since 2022, has been sourced from the Cikarang Plant in Indonesia rather than the Chennai facility in India.
Stylistically, the Alcazar's updates comprises the H-shaped LED headlights from the Exter, a lower mounted grille, central light bar connecting the light clusters, a redesigned front bumper and skidplate, new bonnet, wider wheel arches and silver roof rails.

At the rear, a complete restyling has taken place to include a new bumper and skidplate, H-shaped light clusters also connected by a horizontal LED light bar, stacked light reflectors on the flanks of the bumper itself, and a new tailgate.
Compared to the Grand Creta, Hyundai has reworked the colour palette to offer six hues: Atlas White, Abyss Black, Starry Night, Titan Grey, Fiery Red and Titan Grey Matte.
New inside
Again furnished with seven-seats as standard, and without the optional six as in India, the Alcazar's interior restyling consists not only of improved materials, but also a new dashboard which, surprisingly, omits the pair of 10.25-inch displays offered in its home market.
Instead, all South African variants come standard with a 4.2-inch TFT display and an eight-inch infotainment system, the latter equipped with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for the first time.
Carried over from the Indian Alcazar are the new air vents, the new climate control panel with an LCD display and physical switchgear, and a USB port in each row.
Spec
On the model front, the Alcazar range spans three variants compared to the Grand Creta's five, which has involved the removal of the entry-level Executive manual and the petrol Elite fitted with the automatic transmission.
The line-up, therefore, kicks-off with the Executive automatic, whose specification sheet includes 17-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, folding electric mirrors, imitation leather upholstery, a wireless smartphone charger and a multi-function steering wheel.
Further additions include:
cruise control;
rear parking sensors;
reverse camera;
keyless entry;
tyre pressure monitor;
LED headlights;
Hill Start Assist

As the range's flagship once again, the Elite replaces the 17-inch alloy wheels with new diamond-cut 18-inch wheels, the manual air conditioning with the mentioned climate control, and the standard cruise control with Adaptive Cruise Control.
Included further are the following:
electric driver's seat;
front parking sensors;
ventilated front seats;
panoramic sunroof;
push-button start;
rear window blinds;
LED mood lighting;
Lane Keep Assist;
Blind Spot Monitoring;
Driver Attention Alert;
Forward Collision Avoidance Assist;
Lane Follow Assist;
Rear Cross Traffic Alert;
drive mode selector (Eco, Normal, Sport, Sand, Snow and Mud)
Same engines
Up front, and as previously alluded to, Hyundai has retained the same engine options as the Grand Creta, meaning option of either the normally aspirated 2.0-litre petrol or the 1.5-litre turbodiesel.
As before, the latter remains an auto-only affair with the six-speed self-shifter sending its 84kW/250Nm to the front axle.
In place of the newer 1.5 T-GDI also used by sister brand Kia in the Seltos, the Alcazar's petrol develops 117kW/192Nm directed to the front wheels through the six-speed automatic 'box now that the manual has been dropped.
Price
Priced lower than the Grand Creta in the case of the Executive despite the three-pedal option's departure, the Alcazar's price tag includes both a seven-year/200 000 km warranty as well as a three-year/45 000 km service plan.
Alcazar 2.0 Executive AT – R499 000
Alcazar 1.5 CRDI Executive AT – R599 900
Alcazar 1.5 CRDI Elite AT – R669 900

It's no 'poor man's Defender': New Hyundai Santa Fe lands in SA, with hybrid power
The new Hyundai Santa Fe is now available in South Africa. Image: Supplied Flaunting a boxy new look that's a far cry from its curvy predecessors, the all-new Hyundai Santa Fe has landed in South Africa. While some speak of Land Rover inspiration in the design, it's not quite a 'poor man's Defender', with Hyundai announcing a price tag of R1,249,000 for the single derivative on offer, the Hybrid Elite AWD. This makes the new, and somewhat lavishly appointed, SUV more expensive than the larger Palisade 2.2D, which costs R1,204,500. Yet it's not the most costly Hyundai on offer as the range-topping Staria retails at R1,263,900. The new Santa Fe is Hyundai's first hybrid product to be offered locally, with the drivetrain combining a 132kW 1.6-litre turbopetrol engine with a 44kW electric motor for total system outputs of 175kW and 367Nm. Image: Supplied Although some might miss the diesel option, there is some consolation in the hybrid model's claimed fuel consumption figure of 7.5 litres per 100km. Customers can also adjust the level of regenerative braking. At 4,830mm, the new Santa Fe is 45mm longer than its predecessor, while the wheelbase has grown by 50mm, increasing space for second and third-row occupants. In keeping with its bolder stance, 20-inch alloy wheels are fitted as standard. Interior features include a dual-screen infotainment system with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, Bose sound system, 360-View Monitor, Blind Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist and Lane-Follow Assist. The seats are upholstered in a synthetic leather called H-Tex, with seat heating for the first two rows and ventilation for the front perches. Squared off design theme continues inside. No longer boxed as Hyundai prices all-new, hybrid-only Santa Fe
For the first time in South Africa, Hyundai offers a hybrid powertrain and, in the case of the Santa Fe, minus a turbodiesel engine. Revealed nearly two years ago, Hyundai, after a number of delays, have finally announced pricing for the all-new Santa Fe ahead of its South African market launch this month. Dramatic new look The most radical iteration in the moniker's now 25-year history, the fifth generation Santa Fe, known internally as MX5, adopts a distinct boxy appearance similar to the Defender 130 and the erstwhile Ford Flex, while also becoming the first Hyundai model in South Africa to use a hybrid powertrain. ALSO READ: New box ticked as Hyundai debuts radically new Santa Fe Slimmed down to a solitary model, the four-wheel-drive Elite with seating for seven, the Santa Fe conforms to a styling concept known as 'Open for More' and, aside from taking styling inspiration from the Exter at the front, boasts a rear facia with wraparound light clusters mounted above the bumper not to dissimilar to the much-criticised second generation Ford Scorpio. Wider and longer than the previous Santa Fe, but with the same width and a longer wheelbase, the newcomer's ground clearance decreases from 205 mm to 177 mm. Boxy styling has elements from the Defender 130 and, at the rear, the controversial Ford Scorpio in the look of the light clusters. Image: Hyundai Due to its design, space ranges from 413-litres with all seven seats up, to 725-litres with in five-seat guise. Dropping the middle-row sees this increase to 1 148-litres. Although no tow rating was released, Hyundai reports an approach angle of 17.4-degrees, breakover of 15.3-degrees and departure of 17.4-degrees. Boxy inside Inside, the boxy theme continues in the design of the dashboard that houses a pair of 12.3-inch displays for the instrument cluster and infotainment system. Exterior's boxy design continues inside. Image: Hyundai Also fitted is a 6.6-inch panel with physical buttons and dials for the climate control and a floating centre console with dual cupholders, a pair of smartphone charging pads, type-C USB ports and armrest-cum-storage area. Spec Riding on 20-inch alloy wheels, the Santa Fe's list of standard amenities include the following: LED headlights; side window blinds for the second row; ambient lighting; dual-pane panoramic sunroof; leather upholstery; 12-speaker Bose sound system; heated and ventilated front seats; keyless entry; push-button start; rain sense wipers; heated second row digital rear-view mirror; wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto On the safety and driver assistance side, Hyundai has left little out from the European model by equipping the South African-spec Santa Fe with the following: 360-degree camera system; tyre pressure monitor; front and rear parking sensors; Adaptive Cruise Control Rear Occupant Alert; Forward Collision Avoidance Assist; Lane Keep Assist; Road Edge Detection; Blind Spot Monitoring; Rear Cross Traffic Alert; Driver Attention Alert; Lane Follow Assist; Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist; Reverse Automatic Braking; Safe Exit Assist Goodbye diesel Up front, the Santa Fe's biggest departure from previous generations, as mentioned, is the lack of a turbodiesel engine the MX5 never received development for. Instead, it now derives motivation from a self-charging hybrid consisting of a 1.6 T-GDI petrol engine and a 270-volt battery that powers an electric motor integrated into the housing of the six-speed automatic gearbox. While the former produces 132kW/265Nm on its own, the electric hardware outputs 44kW/264Nm, which, in combined form, develops 175kW/367Nm – 27 kW more but 73 Nm less than the outgoing Santa Fe's 2.2-litre turbodiesel. According to Hyundai, the setup results in a top speed of 190 km/h, 0-100 km/h in 9.5 seconds and a claimed fuel consumption of 7.5 L/100 km. In total, three modes are fitted: Eco, MyDrive and Sport, plus three off-road or Terrain settings: Sand, Snow and Mud. At the same time, three levels of brake regeneration can be selected from by using the paddle shifters which seemingly don't function as the manual override for the transmission. Colours and price On the colour front, six hues have been selected: Creamy White Pearl, Electronic Grey Pearl, Abyss Black Pearl, Pebble Blue Pearl, Typhoon Silver Metallic and Earthy Brass Matte. Priced at R1 249 900, the Santa Fe's sticker includes a seven-year/200 000 km warranty, a six-year/90 000 km service plan and an eight-year/160 000 km battery pack warranty.
