Speaking to the media here on Saturday, Joshi said that the way Shivakumar has expressed his opinion on the ongoing investigation into the Dharmasthala cases has shown his helplessness in the government. Moreover, Shivakumar admitting the conspiracy, being in the government, itself has led to confusion about whether the Congress government is in connivance with the anonymous person in tarnishing the image of Dharmasthala, Joshi said.
Further attacking the State Government over its approach towards the SIT investigation, the BJP leader charged that it seems Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is influenced by the ultra-leftists surrounding him. 'The forces, which were relentlessly trying to undermine the sentiments of the majority of Hindus, are behind the entire issue. The government should stop the digging and submit an interim report before the House,' he demanded.
'Before initiating the investigation, the police should have inquired about the anonymous person by arresting him immediately,' he said, taking serious exception to the police letting the anonymous person speak to the media.
Also, raising the doubt over the identity of that person, he said, if he was belonged to another religion, it could be a systematic effort to hurt the Hindu sentiments. 'Before the Hindus get angry over this entire drama, the government should take appropriate action,' he said.

Hours after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced Maharashtra governor CP Radhakrishnan as the Vice President candidate, a number of INDIA group parties pitched for an eminent person, who adheres to Constitution and democratic values but does not belong to any major party, as the Opposition candidate. Congress president Kharge has called a meeting of Opposition floor leaders on Monday. In the previous election, former Congress minister Margaret Alva was fielded against NDA's Jagdeep Dhankhar. The move irked the Trinamool Congress (TMC) — then the second largest Opposition party, and it decided not to support Alva. To avoid any such mistake, top Congress leaders have indicated that the pick for the upcoming election will be a 'INDIA bloc' candidate and not a party's candidate. A senior floor leader of a non-Congress Opposition party told HT, 'We prefer an eminent person as the candidate and not a politician. But, that person would adhere to the values of the Constitution and democracy.' A Congress leader also said that it is open to fielding a non-politician nominee. 'We will have a detailed discussion with all the leaders of the INDIA bloc. It is not necessary that the candidate must be a politician,' he said A non-Congress candidate who doesn't belong to any political party also makes for a better strategy vis-à-vis parties such as Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) or TMC and fence sitters such as Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) or Biju Janata Dal (BJD). At least eleven AAP MPs (barring Swati Maliwal) might have reservation for politicians from other parties but might vote if some eminent personality is fielded. Even as AAP quit the INDIA group, it joined the Opposition's march to the Election Commission last week. On August 8, after the dinner hosted by Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi at his residence, 14 senior Opposition leaders including former Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, former CMs Akhilesh Yadav, Uddhav Thackeray and Farooq Abdullah, TMC's Abhishek Banerjee and Derek O'Brien and CPI(M)'s MA Baby joined Rahul Gandhi for another round of meeting where the issue of Vice President election was briefly discussed. Many leaders supported the idea of fielding a non-politician for the September 9 polls. In 2017, the Opposition had fielded Gopal Krishna Gandhi, ex-diplomat and former West Bengal governor, as its candidate against NDA's Venkaiah Naidu. According to functionaries, Kharge has already discussed the Vice Presidential polls with Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, and Congress general secretary KC Venugopal. On Monday, Kharge has called a meeting of Opposition floor leaders. The VP poll issue might be discussed there, too.

Rahul Gandhi had on August 7 addressed a press conference in New Delhi, in which he presented Congress's research on voting in the Mahadevapura Assembly in Karnataka, a part of the Bangalore Central parliamentary constituency. Gandhi alleged "vote chori" (vote theft) of 1,00,250 votes, including duplicate voters, invalid addresses, and bulk registrations of votes at single locations. Rahul Gandhi further pointed out an instance of 80 people registered in a single address in Mahadevapura. Rahul Gandhi had alleged that the poll body is "destroying evidence" through the directive deleting CCTV footage from polling booths. He alleged that the EC was only preserving CCTV and webcasting footage of the election process for only 45 days after the whole process is completed, unless the election result is challenged in court.

Steps being taken to frame state-specific education policy
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday said steps are being taken by the state government to frame a comprehensive "Karnataka-specific" education policy which will lead to holistic development of the youth. A commission constituted for this purpose has recommended a two-language policy in school education and that Kannada or the mother tongue be the medium of instruction up to Class 5. In his address during the 79th Independence Day celebrations here, the chief minister also said the government was upgrading first-grade colleges and polytechnics in the state, and establishing 13 new technical education institutions. "Recently, the State Education Policy Commission, chaired by Prof Sukhadeo Thorat, submitted its report," Siddaramaiah said. The Commission had submitted its report to Siddaramaiah on August 8. It was constituted in October 2023 following the Congress' poll promise to replace the National Education Policy (NEP) of the BJP-led Centre. This year, the government is setting up 500 Karnataka Public Schools (KPS) at a cost of Rs 2,500 crore, Siddaramaiah said. 'My Career, My Choice' Pointing out that providing skill training and employment opportunities to youth is a top priority for his government, the CM said that under the motto "My Career, My Choice", vocational guidance programmes are being implemented in 150 government schools for students from grades 8 to 12, benefiting 35,000 students so far.
