Section of Devanahalli farmers meet CM, seek ₹3.5 crore compensation per acre, jobs for children of landlosers
This development comes even as farmers, civil society activists, and Dalit leaders have launched a protracted agitation criticising the decision to acquire nearly 1,777 acres of fertile land in 13 villages of Devanahalli for this purpose. The Chief Minister is set to meet the farmers opposed to the project on July 15.
Four conditions
On Saturday, the farmers who met Mr. Siddaramaiah imposed four conditions for the acquisition of land. They demanded ₹3.5 crore per acre and jobs as per the qualification for the children of landlosers. They also demanded that the government should not convert the land into a 'green zone'. The other demand was the conversion of land in nearby villages into a 'yellow zone'. They also demanded that the acquisition process should be done transparently to ensure hassle-free compensation for landlosers.
Ministers K.H. Muniyappa and B.S. Suresh, Chief Minister's legal adviser A.S. Ponnappa, and senior officials were among those who attended the meeting. Mr. Siddaramaiah had met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh a few days ago, seeking a defence corridor each for south and north Karnataka.
'Malicious intent'
Meanwhile, the farmers and their supporters opposing the land acquisition process, released a statement questioning 'the malicious intent of the pro-land acquisition team to break the unity of the people' from 13 villages in Channarayapatna hobli. 'The people who toil and sweat in the fields are with us,' said Karalli Srinivas, convener of the Channarayapatna Land Acquisition Protest Committee.
'The farmers' protest against forced land acquisition, which has been ongoing for 1,195 days, has reached its final stage, and Mr. Siddaramaiah has announced that he will declare his decision on July 15,' he said, adding that a section of people stating that they are in favour of land acquisition at this point in time has caused anxiety among genuine protesters and farmers.

He argued that the absence of a dedicated financial mechanism was discouraging young entrepreneurs from these communities from entering the industrial there is no separate fund to bolster young industrialists from these communities, they are staying away from the industry sector. Thus, it is mandatory to institute a separate fund at the government level,' the minister wrote. He called for immediate action, saying such a fund could bridge the gap in representation and opportunity in the state's industrial April this year, the state's caste census commission recommended increasing the OBC reservation quota in education and employment from 32 per cent to 51 per cent. BJP predicts ‘Diwali dhamaka' amid ‘vertical split' in ruling Congress
Bengaluru: Karnataka BJP President B Y Vijayendra on Wednesday claimed a 'vertical split' within the ruling Congress over the Chief Minister change issue and predicted 'Diwali dhamaka' as all is not seemingly well in the grand old party. He alleged that the CM is struggling to retain the confidence of the legislators, who have lost faith in him. The BJP leader's remarks come amid speculation in the state's political circles about a leadership change later this year, fuelled by a power-sharing agreement between incumbent CM Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM D K Shivakumar. 'There is a completely vertical split between Congress MLAs in Karnataka. Most of the legislators who are unhappy with CM Siddaramaiah due to lack of development activities are not being taken into confidence. MLAs are upset and publicly attacking the Chief Minister on various issues,' Vijayendra said in response to a question. Speaking to reporters here, he said, 'Shivakumar is seen as Chief Minister in waiting. Few MLAs want Shivakumar as CM, few want Mallikarjun Kharge (AICC President), and some want Siddaramaiah to continue. -This confusion has created a vertical split within the ruling Congress party in Karnataka. We have been saying that this Diwali, I think there will be a big dhamaka within the Congress party.' The saffron party chief claimed differences not only between the CM and his deputy, but also among legislators in the ruling party, who 'have lost trust' in the Chief Minister. 'The CM who is perturbed by this is trying to take the legislators into confidence by announcing Rs 50 crore to each ruling party MLA for developmental works in their constituency, which has not been released yet....' he said. Reiterating that there will be Diwali dhamaka in Karnataka, Vijayendra said, 'We have been saying it for a long time. The information that we are getting from corridors of power is that all is not well within the Congress party. Russia-Ukraine war may stop, but this much is true that the war here (in Karnataka Congress) is beginning.'
