Morgan Gibbs-White transfer: Tottenham issue remains after Nottingham Forest's response

Daily Mirror23-07-2025
Tottenham's pursuit of Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White has stalled with the player now featuring in pre-season and his club considering legal action despite his release clause being met
Tottenham's pursuit of Morgan Gibbs-White has slowed down after Nottingham Forest were left fuming by their approach for the player - who is continuing to play for them during pre-season.

It looked as if the north Londoners were going to get their man after matching the £60million release clause in his contract. Forest were frustrated that the confidential figure in his deal was met by Tottenham and reacted angrily, threatening legal action.

The progress of any potential deal has stalled and Gibbs-White played for Forest in their friendly against Monaco this weekend. He was due to be part of the Forest squad that went to Portugal for a pre-season camp this week, but did not travel at the start of the week for personal reasons, reports the Athletic.

Gibbs-White's team-mate Ola Aina recently said: 'At the end of the day, we're all professionals - we've got a job to do and that's what Morgan is doing right now. He's keeping it professional."
Forest maintain they never gave Spurs permission to speak to Gibbs-White, who is thought to be keen on a move to north London. They are considering legal action regarding Tottenham's interest and want to see whether a confidentiality agreement regarding his release clause has been breached.
Forest have already lost Antony Elanga, who moved to Newcastle for more than £50m, and will be loathed to lose another of their key attacking weapons in Gibbs-White. The club's impressive season was always going to see their top players attract attention from rivals.
The City Ground outfit do appear to be making moves should they lose Gibbs-White with Manchester City star James McAtee identified as a target. Several clubs are keen on the playmaker, who is valued at £35m, with Forest potentially advancing their interest in the days ahead, reports the Telegraph.
Tottenham meanwhile have already spent £55m to sign Mohamed Kudus from West Ham with new manager Thomas Frank wanting more forwards to arrive in the capital.
Spurs have also been linked ex-Fulham star Joao Palhinha. The 30-year-old Bayern Munich midfielder is available this summer, but the Premier League's side preference would be for a loan rather than a permanent move. Mathys Tel's loan move from Bayern Munich has also been made permanent.

Dele Alli looking for new club after being told he is not in Como's plans

Dele Alli has been told he no longer features in the plans of Serie A side Como and is looking for a new club. The 29-year-old former Tottenham Hotspur and England midfielder did not travel with his team-mates to Marbella, Spain for a pre-season camp and has reportedly been training instead at Como's base in Mozzate, northern Italy, with other players who have been advised their futures lie elsewhere. Reports in Italy suggesting that he is considering retirement are understood to be wide of the mark, with Dele keen to continue rebuilding his career at a new team. Dele joined Como, who are coached by the former Arsenal, Chelsea and Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fàbregas, in January on an 18-month contract after his release by Everton. He has struggled with fitness issues but returned as a substitute in March, during an away game at AC Milan, after more than two years without a competitive appearance. However, he was sent off ten minutes into his return for a challenge on his former England team-mate, Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Dele initially received a yellow card which was upgraded to a red after a VAR review. When the referee, Matteo Marchetti, eventually showed Dele the red card, Milan's Kyle Walker, who played with Dele for both England and Tottenham, pleaded with the official not to send him off. That match has proven to be Dele's one and only appearance for Como. Dele's previous competitive appearance came for Besiktas in February 2023. He had moved to the Turkish club on loan from Everton, but the deal was impacted by injury. That summer, he checked into a rehabilitation centre in the United States, in an effort to overcome an addiction to sleeping pills. JONATHAN MOSCROP/GETTY IMAGES In July 2023, he spoke bravely about the childhood traumas that had later impacted his career and his life in a raw interview with The Overlap. He revealed that, as a child, he had been sexually abused and that at the age of eight, he had been dealing drugs. Dele expressed his ambition to return to playing and confirmed he was receiving off-field support. He spent six weeks in the United States and returned to Everton, where he continued his rehabilitation from a groin injury. His contract expired in July 2024, although he continued to train with the club as he worked his way back to full fitness. Dele began his career at MK Dons and then spent seven years at Tottenham, where he made 269 appearances and scored 67 goals. He has been capped 37 times by England, scoring three goals.

Thomas Partey set to join new club two days before appearing in court over rape charges

Thomas Partey is due to pen a two-year deal with Villarreal after seeing his Arsenal contract expire as the Ghanaian also prepares to appear in court after being hit with several charges Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey is due to join Villarreal this summer after his contract at the Emirates expired, leaving him free to seek pastures new. The 32-year-old Ghanaian has undergone a medical and is expected to sign a two-year deal with the Spanish club, which will see him play with the Yellow Submarine until 2027. It will mark his return to La Liga having played there during his Atletico Madrid days. Partey was keen to remain in the Champions League and that was a major factor in him choosing Villarreal, who finished fifth in Spain last term. The midfielder had been linked with moves to clubs in Europe and the Middle East throughout the season. The Athletic reported that the ex-Atletico man was in talks over staying at the Emirates but an agreement could not be reached on the terms of a deal despite the two parties trying until late in the day. Partey joined the club from Atletico for £45million back in 2020 and has been part of their rise to title challengers under Mikel Arteta. All in all he made 167 appearances for Arsenal, scoring nine goals, including one in a north London derby win. Shortly after the Ghanaian's Arsenal exit was confirmed he was charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. He denies all charges. He had been the subject of an investigation that began in February 2022. He is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on Tuesday August 5. Arteta was asked for his reaction to the news of Partey's charges and said: "The club was very clear in its statement. There are a lot of legal matters that are very complicated so I cannot comment on any of that. Quizzed further on whether he was confident the club has followed the right process he replied: "100%." Arsenal have made several additions in the middle of the pitch with Martin Zubimendi among their key signings. The Spanish midfielder joins from Real Sociedad after being on the club's radar 12 months ago and will assist the likes of Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard. Christian Norgaard has also joined from Brentford with the Dane adding more depth to the team's midfield options. Arteta has also captured more firepower in Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon and Noni Madueke from Chelsea. Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. Enzo Maresca makes shock U-turn and tries to block Chelsea transfer

Enzo Maresca has held fresh talks with Christopher Nkunku in a bid to convince the misfiring Chelsea forward to stay at Stamford Bridge. Nkunku was expected to be sold by Chelsea following another disappointing season at the Premier League club. Chelsea spent £52m to sign Nkunku from RB Leipzig in 2023 but the France international missed most of his first season in west London through injury. Nkunku was back fit last season but still endured a disappointing campaign, contributing just three goals in the Premier League. Chelsea fans have been hugely underwhelmed by Nkunku's form at the club considering he was named the Bundesliga Player of the Season in 2021-22 and was the league's top goalscorer before his arrival. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. The Blues were open to offers for Nkunku during the January transfer window and were expected to cash in on the 27-year-old this summer. Chelsea have bolstered Maresca's squad with several new signings this summer so the sale of Nkunku would give them a chance to make room for the new additions and raise some funds. However, according to L'Equipe, Maresca recently held talks with Nkunku and made it clear that he could still be part of his project at Stamford Bridge. Maresca appreciates Nkunku's profile and knows squad depth will be needed as Chelsea look to challenge Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City for the title while competing in Europe. It is unclear whether Nkunku will settle for a rotational role in Maresca's squad as he has aspirations of making France's squad for next summer's World Cup. Appearances: 65Goals: 6 Assists: 2 His representatives are also aware of interest from several possible suitors, recently holding talks with Serie A giants Inter Milan. French outlet L'Equipe say clubs in the bottom-half of the Premier League have also expressed interest in a deal but Nkunku intends to play for a top-level club. Nkunku was linked with Bayern Munich and Manchester United earlier in the summer but those two clubs appear to be focusing on other targets. In an exclusive interview with Metro back in April, former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf urged both the club and Nkunku to 'cut their losses' and go their separate ways this summer. 'I think they need to cut their losses and go their separate ways,' the ex-Chelsea centre-back said. 'It's best for the club but also the future of the player. Careers are pretty short so you have to react quickly if it doesn't work. More Trending 'And it can happen like this – sometimes the chemistry doesn't work. I was very happy to see him come to Chelsea, but it's never worked. 'He's never been able to settle down, maybe because the position he's been offered wasn't the right one. 'It's always difficult to come from a family club like Leipzig to a club where you have to perform and the pressure is one you always. I had that when I moved from Strasbourg to Chelsea and it's a big task if you're not able to cope with the situation. 'It's never worked for him but he's still a good player. He will have to rebound but we've seen that before with players like Kevin De Bruyne and Mohamed Salah when they left.' Chelsea have two pre-season friendlies against Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan next weekend before their Premier League campaign starts on August 17 against Crystal Palace.
