He also drove the wrong way around a roundabout and turned his lights off during the five-minute pursuit in the early hours of the morning.
After hitting a police car, he made a run for it from his Vauxhall Corsa before he tumbled over and was arrested, Cardiff Crown Court heard.
He was chased from Mountain Ash in Rhondda Cynon Taf before being caught in Nelson, prosecutor Elin Morgan.

Buchanan, of Millbrook Road, Pontllanfraith admitted dangerous driving with the incident occurring on Saturday, August 3, 2024.
The defendant has 21 previous convictions for 47 offences and these include dangerous driving, drug driving and driving whilst disqualified.
He was handed a suspended prison sentence last November for a bizarre attempted burglary in Pontllanfraith.
Buchanan, also known as Thomas Bowden, tried to break into a stranger's house by using a brick after drinking four of five bottles of Lambrini.
The court heard on that occasion that when the police arrived to arrest him, he was so drunk he couldn't stand up.
He was jailed for jailed for 21 months, suspended for 24 months, ordered to complete a 24-day rehabilitation activity requirement and made the subject of a 12-month alcohol treatment requirement.
Abdallah Barakat representing the probation service said Buchanan was in breach of the suspended sentence after failing to comply with the rehabilitation activity requirement.
Kevin Seal for the father-of-three said his client drinks four or five bottles a day after overcoming a heroin addiction.
His barrister asked that the defendant be given the full one-third credit for his guilty plea to dangerous driving.
Judge Eugene Egan told Buchanan: 'This was extreme dangerous driving in my view.
'You deliberately sought to avoid the police and you exposed others to the risk of significant injury or worse.'
Buchanan was jailed for 12 months for the dangerous driving and the judge activated a prison term of 18 months for being in breach of the suspended sentence last year.
That latter portion was imposed consecutively, making a total imprisonment term of 30 months.
The defendant was disqualified from driving for four years following his release from custody and he must sit an extended retest.

The victim managed to message a family member on Snapchat, asking them to come over, but out of fear that Howells would see it she sent a follow-up message telling them not to worry. She was left with bruising and red marks on her neck. In her victim personal statement she said she had been struggling to sleep since the attack as she "constantly" replayed the incident, adding: "I am constantly looking over my shoulder when I go anywhere out of fear I will bump into Nathan." Howells, of Tremgarth in Wildmill, pleaded guilty to intentional strangulation, assault and criminal damage. His barrister Jac Brown said he had no previous convictions and that on the morning of the offences he had learned of his aunt's death. "He became deliberately argumentative with the complainant and he recognises he simply lost it with her," said Mr Brown. The probation service assessed Howells as posing a medium risk of harm to the victim. Mr Brown argued this could be managed with a restraining order. "Prior to these offences he was unemployed and a frequent smoker of cannabis, which he used to cope with his unemployment," said Mr Brown. "He has realised cannabis will not help him and has abstained for several months now, while enjoying stability as a permanent contractor in a warehouse." Passing sentence, Judge Paul Hobson told Howells: "People who engage in behaviour of this kind, very often young men, should expect to be severely punished. An act of strangulation is inherently dangerous and terrifying for its victim. You only have to think what it would be like to be strangled and have difficulty breathing to realise why that is so." But the judge also took into account Howells' young age, the absence of previous convictions, and evidence that he had shown "some remorse". He imposed 12 months in a young offender institute suspended for two years. As it became clear Howells would be spared jail, there were gasps and tears of happiness from two women in the public gallery. The defendant himself showed no emotion. Howells was handed a 25-day rehabilitation activity requirement and 180 hours of unpaid work. He must pay £600 in compensation and £100 in prosecution costs. Moment heartless vandal smashes up charity van in late-night attack
Hope Chest Community Project has been forced to pay out of their own funds to hire a replacement van to deal with a stream of referrals coming in. This is the shocking moment a van belonging to a charity was smashed up by a brazen vandal in the middle of the night. The van, belonging to Hope Chest Community Project, was left undriveable after the thug smashed a window of the vehicle that was parked outside Wellesley Parish Church in Methil, Fife. Two people were captured on CCTV at around 1.40am on Monday, August 11, with one spotted delivering the blow that shattered the driver's-side window, in full view of cameras. The charity relies on the van to transport furniture and household goods to people in need, and has been inundated with referrals, with around 100 so far this year. With it off the road until at least the end of this week, they have been forced to cancel or delay referrals. They have also faced additional costs, including a £450 insurance excess and paying out of their own funds to get a temporary replacement van. Assistant manager Freda McIntosh, 52, told the Record: "The number of referrals we get is unbelievable. We had to pay to hire a van to do an emergency pickup, as a lady had passed away. We had been asked to empty her house and it needed to be done urgently." The vandal left the windows shattered and the interior damaged. Pictures shared on social media show the aftermath, with pieces of glass and plastic covering the seats and floor, and even pieces of panelling from under the steering wheel seemingly missing. Freda added: "We're completely staffed by volunteers, and they've all been left so deflated that someone from our community could do this. "However, local people have rallied round asking if they can help us, which has really boosted spirits, and we're very grateful for their support." The charity also claimed their insurance company bizarrely offered them a Vauxhall Corsa as an alternative vehicle. Sadly, this is not the first time the charity has fallen victim to vandalism. The vehicle belonging to The Halliday Foundation had its windows and wing mirrors smashed while parked in the city's Dennistoun area on July 16. The moment was also picked up on CCTV, showing a man riding a bike taking a hammer to the glass. The charity faced similar delays in being able to deliver essential items to vulnerable people.
