GNITS Conducts Sensitization Program on MSME IDEA Hackathon 5.0
The session aimed to create awareness among students about the MSME IDEA Hackathon 5.0, its benefits, and the application process.
The resource person for the session was Sri K. C. Choudhury, Indian Enterprise Development Service (Retd.), Ex-Assistant Director Grade-I, Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME), Hyderabad. His insightful talk provided students with valuable knowledge on the importance of innovation and entrepreneurship and guided them on how to participate effectively in the Hackathon.
The program witnessed active participation from UG and PG students, who expressed keen interest in leveraging the MSME platform for their entrepreneurial ventures.
Dr. K. Ramalinga Reddy, Dean Academics, Dr. N. Kalyani (Dean, I&I) encouraged students to take part in such initiatives to foster innovation and contribute to the startup ecosystem.

UP cabinet meeting: Two policies cleared to boost MSMEs, leather industry
In a bid to give a boost to exports, attract investment and create jobs in the Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector, the state cabinet on Thursday cleared two key policies — the Uttar Pradesh Footwear, Leather and Non-Leather Area Development Policy 2025 and the UP MSME Audyogik Aasthan Prabandhan (allotment) Policy. UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath presided over the meeting of the state cabinet in Lucknow on August 7. The UP footwear, leather and non-leather development policy aims at giving a boost to the state's share in the export of leather and non-leather products and attracting investment. The UP MSME Audyogik Aasthan Prabandhan (allotment) Policy has been worked out for allotment of land to the MSMEs at low rates. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath presided over the meeting of the state cabinet that gave the nod to the two policies. Minister for finance and parliamentary affairs Suresh Khanna and minister for MSMEs Rakesh Sachan briefed media persons about the state cabinet's decisions. The footwear, leather and non-leather policy also aims at technology upgradation and modernisation, launching training programmes to improve quality of products, create a workforce for the industry and provide jobs, the ministers said. Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu are the leaders in the sector. The state government had recently sent teams to China and Japan to attract investment in the sector. It is developing megaleather parks in Kanpur, Agra and Unnao. 'We hope to get investment from China and Japan etc. and nearly 44 lakh jobs are likely to be created in the sector in the next five years. We aim at creating 50% of these jobs, including for women, in Uttar Pradesh,' said additional chief secretary, industry, Alok Kumar. Under the UP MSME Audyogik Aasthan Prabandhan (allotment) Policy, the state government will develop land/sheds for the MSME sector. The MSME department had no clear policy for allotment of land/sheds for MSMEs. Parks for the MSMEs are being developed in a nearly 700-acre area. Allotment of land for the MSME would now be done through a bidding process on the GeM portal. A reserve price of ₹2500 per square metre has been decided for the MSMEs in central UP, ₹3000 per square metre in west UP and ₹2000 per square metre in east UP and Bundelkhand regions. There will be revision of rates with a 5% increase on April 1 every year. Those taking part in the e-auction for allotment of land would have to deposit 10% earnest money. There will be 10% reservation for SC/ST in allotments. 'The state government will be giving a sort of subsidy by developing these areas and providing power . A park has been already developed in Aligarh in a 97- acre area and the state government proposes to develop such parks in all the districts,' said Kumar.

APSRTC Hire Bus Owners' Association's seeks subsidy under SC/ST sub-plan
Vehicle owners from SC, ST and OBC sections have urged the government to release the subsidy amount, at least through the SC/ST sub-plan funds, for their vehicles purchased under the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) scheme. At a press conference in Vijayawada on Thursday (August 7), they alleged gross injustice meted out at them by the previous government, which did not release the subsidies to them from 2020 to 2024. As a result, they were pushed into severe financial distress and were unable to pay their monthly instalments, salaries to drivers and cleaners and meet the vehicle maintenance expenses. Many had to mortgage family gold or take loans against their homes, they said. Owners of contract buses said the YSRCP government's reverse tendering policy had hit them hard. They said while assigning their buses to the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC), they were allotted non-profitable routes, leading to a loss of about ₹50,000 per bus every month due to poor mileage. Moreover, APSRTC used their drivers as on-call drivers, but paid them more than the owners, leading to a shortage of drivers for the owners themselves. They said as a result, when their buses couldn't operate, they incurred losses and had to pay penalties for non-operation, which only added to the burden. They said many among them were now unable to run their buses and were in a state of financial collapse and requested that if at least the pending subsidies are released, they would get some relief. They said the TDP-led NDA government had promised to release the subsidies by May 15, but the commitment had not yet been fulfilled.

The e-conclave brought together key voices from government and industry to deliberate on Uttar Pradesh 's developmental strides in infrastructure, employment and investment. The event focused on Uttar Pradesh's transformational journey, with particular emphasis on roads, smart cities, green energy and industrial growth. The second panel discussion was on the theme 'Creating a Future-Ready Uttar Pradesh by Connecting Infrastructure, Industry, and Human Capital' and was moderated by Sanjay Bhatnagar. The panel comprised of following dignitaries: Amit Mohan Prasad, Ex-additional chief secretary MSME Pulkit Khare, Mission Director, Skill Development Mission, Uttar Pradesh Shashank Chaudhary, Assistant CEO, Invest UP Rahul Ahluwalia, Director, Foundation for Economic Development Vineet Rai, Vice Chairman, Aavishkaar Group Amit Mohan Prasad: MSMEs as growth engines: Opening the discussion, Amit Mohan Prasad emphasized Uttar Pradesh's emergence as a top investment destination due to factors such as improved law and order, progressive industrial policies and a large consumer base. Highlighting the CM Yuva program, he explained the state's flagship scheme aims to support one lakh micro enterprises annually over the next decade. 'MSMEs are the biggest employment generators, contributing 30% to GDP, 60% to employment and 45% to exports,' he noted. Pulkit Khare: Skilling for the future: Pulkit Khare stressed the critical link between infrastructure and human capital, noting that without the right skill sets, physical infrastructure loses its value. He revealed that only 70% of graduates in UP are considered industry-ready, with national figures even lower. The initiative lead by him is providing free training programs in emerging domains like AI and IT to bridge the gap. 'Any kind of physical infrastructure is incomplete if we don't have proper human infrastructure,' he added. Shashank Chaudhary: Changing perceptions of UP: Shashank Chaudhary addressed the evolving investor sentiment, pointing out that UP was once seen as an agrarian state, plagued with concerns over governance and infrastructure. However, initiatives like expressway networks, upcoming airports and electronic manufacturing parks have redefined investor confidence. 'Today, investors appreciate the scale of development. Those who've started operations in UP are running them successfully,' he stated. Rahul Ahluwalia: UP must compete globally: Rahul Ahluwalia offered a broader perspective on ease of doing business, arguing that UP must now aim to compete with countries like China and Vietnam, not just Indian states. 'UP has gone from being one of the most restrictive states to one of the most liberal in terms of business reforms,' he observed. Vineet Rai: A time for introspection: Concluding the discussion, Vineet Rai acknowledged that basic infrastructural needs have been met, but the state must now focus on raising per capita GDP and achieving the aspiration of becoming a $1 trillion economy. He stressed the need for joint action by the government and private sector, saying, 'The ecosystem in UP at this point of time needs a critical introspection of itself.'
