The award-winning 64 Degrees restaurant in Meeting House Lane, Brighton, announced its closure on social media yesterday.
Current owners Michael and Carla wrote in a statement: 'After an incredible run since 2013, we've made the decision to close the doors of 64 Degrees this summer.
'Over the years we've had the privilege of feeding thousands of you, celebrating countless birthdays, big nights, quiet dinners, and everything in between."
They linked the closure to struggles being experienced in the food industry: "The cost of living crisis, rising supplier prices, energy hikes and the ongoing pressures on hospitality have mde it harder than ever for us an independent restaurant, to continue to bring the things we're most passionate about."
Among those values, Michael and Carla outline are their high standards, locally sourced, fresh and sustainable ingredients, whilst investing in staff to bring the best service.
Michael opened the restaurant to provide a focus on social dining, where people could order several small plates to share.
At 64 Degrees, diners were encouraged to sit at the pass and watch the food being prepared in front of them.
It received a number of accolades, including Best Restaurant in the Brighton and Hove Food and Drink Awards in 2014 and 2015, as well as Michael being acknowledged with their Special Recognition Award in 2016.
In 2016 and 2016, 64 Degrees was also voted the Best Restaurant in the Brighton Top 20 Awards, in which Michael also won Best Chef for these y ears.
The restaurant has continually been voted in the National Restaurant Awards Top 100 List each year, reach the height of number 16 in 2016.

In 2017, 64 Degrees was then voted by the public of Brighton as the best restaurant for the BRAVO awards.
The social media post continued: "We're incredibly proud of everything 64 Degrees has achieved and everything it has stood for!
"From earning national recognition, to pioneering an 'open kitchen style' in Brighton, to the weird and wonderful dishes that made it onto 'the pass' it's been an adventure we'll never forget."
They concluded: "This might be the end of 64 Degrees in its current form, but it's not the end of the story.
"Something new is on the way, and we can't wait to share it with you soon."
64 Degrees is not the only restaurant Michael has opened, as following his success he opened another called Murmur in the summer of 2017.
Murmur is also located in Brighton, on the seafront in Kings Road Arches.
It offers a different dining concept, and served fresh, local dishes for lunch and dinner.

I tested GHD's new hair tool against Asda's £141 cheaper version – the winner gave me luscious locks that lasted all day

The winner gave curls that lasted all day long HAIR ME OUT I tested GHD's new hair tool against Asda's £141 cheaper version – the winner gave me luscious locks that lasted all day Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) MERMAID waves are making a splash this summer, from Sofia Richie to Molly-Mae, everyone's after that beachy glow-up. So when GHD launched its new Curve Wave triple-barrel tool, promising beachy waves in minutes for £159, I had to know if it was really worth the hefty price tag. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 8 I tested two hair wavers to see which one gave the best results 8 I began both styles on roughly blow-dried hair Or could a budget dupe deliver the same glam for a fraction of the cost? Enter the George at Asda's hair waver. Tucked away on the supermarket's shelf, I found the George Black Hair Waver for just £14.40 That's £141 cheaper than the GHD and barely more than a posh shampoo. So I put them both to the test to see if this supermarket buy could be the ultimate GHD dupe. George Hair Waver 8 The Asda hair waver gave me a beachy mermaid look that lasted all day long Black Hair Waver, £14.40, available at Asda Starting with the underdog, I unboxed the George hair waver and took it for a spin. I prepped my hair by giving it a quick wash and blow dry and made sure to use heat protectant. I used the same hair wash products and Schwarzkopf Styling Caring Protect & Repair Spray for both tests to give the gadgets an even shot. Once you plug it in and switch it on, there's no indicator to tell you when it's ready to use but I found it heated up in around 30-45 seconds. Can £39 viral split ends cutter replace hairdresser So far, although it looks pretty basic, I was happy - it heated up in under a minute and was light enough to hold without giving me arm ache. With smaller barrels than the likes of the GHD, I had to work in narrower sections. I split my hair in two (mine's thick and long – the kind that makes most tools cry) and worked through it in about 20 minutes. That's quick enough for me to fit into my morning routine. I have to say, the results were shockingly good. It delivered defined, structured waves that looked glossy and polished – like Molly-Mae's signature look on a payday budget. The kind of hair that makes strangers ask what shampoo you use. But here's the kicker, the style lasted all day long. Even the next morning, I woke up with waves intact, which came as a major surprise because my hair struggles to hold a lot of styles. It's basic, yes, there's no cool tip or fancy temperature control but it just works. If you want tight waves that hold their shape, this little tool packs a serious punch. Rating: 9/10 GHD Wave Triple Barrel Hair Weaver– £159 8 The GHD gave me a soft, effortless look Credit: ghd GHD Wave Triple Barrel Hair Waver, £159, available at GHD. Now for the more expensive one. Let's be honest, GHD knows how to do sleek. From the luxe packaging to the premium feel, it oozes designer energy. It even gives a polite chime when it's ready to go and it heats up in a flash. The bigger barrel means you can tackle more hair at once, which sounds great in theory. But the tool itself is very weighty, and awkward to manoeuvre, especially when trying to get round the back. I even caught the side of my neck once, leaving a small burn. But the good thing is you're not holding it up for too long. Once I got into the groove, it took me around 15-20 seconds to do per section. I have to say, the results were undeniably pretty. It gave me soft, loose, beachy waves that were perfect for a soft summer look. But within a few hours, they'd started to fall. By the time I'd reached the dinner table, my 'effortless glam' had turned into 'couldn't find my brush'. On thinner or finer hair, it might've held better. But on my thicker hair, the GHD just couldn't keep up. Gorgeous at first, yes – but it wilted so fast, I had to restyle my hair for my evening dinner plans. Rating: 6/10 How do they compare? Honestly, between the two wavers, the surprise winner was definitely the Asda waver. Sure, it doesn't come with the bells, whistles or luxury aesthetics but it certainly delivers. It gave me long-lasting, camera-ready waves that survived a full day of wear, all for under £15. It was lighter to hold, so no burns or arm aches. It was relatively quick and all around just very impressive for the price point. GHD's tool is undeniably sleek, quick and luxe. It looks a lot better than the Asda waver, that's for sure. But the results were sadly underwhelming. Although it gives you a nice soft, effortless look, the style just didn't stick and when you're spending £159, you want more than just pretty packaging. So if you're after beach-babe waves that'll last all day long on a budget, the Asda waver is your new secret weapon. Proof that sometimes the most expensive tools aren't necessarily the best. 8 I prepped my hair with the Schwarzkopf Styling Caring Protect & Repair Spray Credit: Superdrug 8 I was extremely impressed with the Asda version 8 The GHD gave me a nice, soft wave

First pics of rare Chilean flamingo chick born in Scotland – and it's the ONLY one in UK

The new flamingling is currently nameless, as it will be several weeks before it is old enough to be sexed BIRD JOY First pics of rare Chilean flamingo chick born in Scotland – and it's the ONLY one in UK Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) The young "flamingling" was born late last week at Bird Gardens Scotland, located in Oxton in the Scottish Borders. It was born to seven-year-old flamingos, Moana and Joy, who were hand-reared at the centre by owners Owen Joiner and Mark Halliday - who say they are "very proud" of the first-time parents. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 2 The first photos have been taken of the UK's only Chilean flamingo chick Credit: SWNS Owen said: "The flamingos we have here hatched seven years ago and they're now physically mature - we had some tentative nesting behaviour last year, but we think that was just a practice run. "Flamingo mating isn't the most gracious of affairs and it's a bit tricky to get the balance of things. "This year, they nested and had the most amazing, elaborate courtship dances that the whole flock were involved in. "It's only four or five days old, and within the first month, a lot can go wrong - but the parents are being amazing. "They were hand-reared, so they have no experience of being reared by a flamingo. "They're falling back on their instincts, and they're doing a really remarkable job." The couple's flock hatched five eggs, all of which were taken into an incubator, with Mark crafting ceramic eggs to take their place in the nests. After around 30 days in the incubator, one of the eggs began to hatch, and was quickly returned to its nest. Owen said: "Mark is a potter, so he made some ceramic flamingo eggs that we gave to mum and dad to keep them interested in the nest." "When the eggs started to pip, we transferred them back to mum and dad, and it hatched that night." Mark added: "It was to protect the eggs from crows, or rats, or stoats, or herons, seagulls - all these things can come over and look for eggs. "We thought we'd be extra cautious and put their eggs somewhere we knew they'd be safe. "It also meant we could keep an eye on if they were fertile or not - sadly, some of them weren't." The new flamingling is currently nameless, as it will be several weeks before it is old enough to be sexed - but its parents are doing a "fantastic job" say Mark and Owen. 2 A five-day-old flamingling is being housed at Bird Gardens Scotland, in the Borders Credit: SWNS "We're really pleased that we've managed it this year, and the one baby they're rearing at the moment, they're doing a really good job with," said Mark. "Instincts have kicked in and they know exactly what to do. "They do it in pairs - so when he's off feeding, she's on the egg, and vice versa. "We've noticed sometimes that when one of them stands up to stretch their legs, their partner goes up to them and chastises them until they sit back down on the egg - it's quite funny to watch." The couple, who say their flamingo flock is one of the key draws to the Bird Gardens, hope this achievement is the first of many - one which could open doors to further conservation efforts. Owen said: "It's a real success story. "We've only been open three years, so for us as a young institution, it will help us get involved with an ever-increasing number of conservation breeding programmes. "As far as I'm aware, this is the only Chilean flamingo chick in the UK at the moment. "Flamingos are one of our key attractions - regardless of their status in the wild, they have quite a local following in the community. "We hope the community will come to visit, celebrate with us, and enjoy the journey of watching this little baby grow up." And for the flamingos that didn't have chicks this year - they say there's still time before the summer ends. "We're hoping that the flamingos that weren't successful will try again this year," said Mark. "Hopefully there's still enough summer left for them to lay some more eggs - if they do, it will be around three weeks from now."

Trolls call me a ‘visa vagina' for having a Gambian lover who's 21 years younger – but men my age are like coleslaw

Her family are not convinced that the Gambian lover has her best intentions at heart MIND THE GAP Trolls call me a 'visa vagina' for having a Gambian lover who's 21 years younger – but men my age are like coleslaw Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A 65-YEAR-OLD Brit gran has been labelled a ''visa vagina'' after finding love with a younger man she met on holiday. Zena, 65, from Oxted, Surrey, was on holiday in The Gambia two years ago when she met Ebrima, a waiter working ay her resort who is 21 years her junior. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 3 Zena was delighted when Ebrima showed his interest and asked her out on a date after gifting flowers Credit: Discovery plus UK 3 Her family are not convinced that Ebrima has her best intentions at heart Credit: tiktok/@discoveryplusuk Zena was delighted when Ebrima showed his interest and asked her out on a date after gifting flowers. The mother-of-four appeared on the programme 90 Day Fiancé UK, where her love story with her now-man, Ebrima, 44, was told. ''I thought he's rather nice, he's tall, he's handsome, we've had a few dates and we've had a relationship ever since,'' the gran said. The 64-year-old admitted that the age-gap relationship is ideal as she doesn't ''really fancy'' blokes her own age. She added: ''Men in their 60s, I'm not attracted to. They're all bald and have big fat guts. They're like washed-up coleslaw. I don't fancy young men, I like an in-between.'' But although Zena seems to be happy that she has finally found her one and only Romeo after three failed long-term relationships, her family are not convinced that Ebrima has her best intentions at heart. The suspicions only intensified after her relatives discovered his secret social media profile. Since dating, Zena has bought him a brand new iPhone, a mattress and sent him more than £1,000 for occasions such as birthdays, Christmas, and some cash to help his struggling family. The Gambian waiter has also asked her for extra £3,000 so he can set up a taxi business. She said: ''He's extremely fit and I am so attracted to him. When I put a few posts up on my social media, a lot of people said 'You're just a visa vagina' or 'You're just a sex tourist'. I make £360k a year as a model and sugar baby and everyone judges me but men loving splashing their earnings on me ''No, I'm not a sex tourist because if I wanted [to have] sex in England I would, even at my age.'' Zena hit back at the critics: ''I am a generous person and if I think someone needs money, I will give it to them because you can only keep so much for yourself.'' However, while Zena may have fallen head over heels for Ebrima, her elderly mother, 95, disapproves of their relationship, adding that she hopes the pair do not end up marrying. It's not just Zena's mum who's not too keen on the entire situation - Zena's granddaughter Tillie believes the fairy tale romance may all be too good to be true. ''He could have four ladies exactly like you all sending him money,'' she speculated. Zena's daughter, Zoe, said: ''I don't think she's thinking straight but I hope for her sake he's going to prove us all wrong. If he does ask for money that is definitely a red flag.'' Ebrima - who also appeared on the show - told Zena that he ''really, really wants to get to England'' after speaking about how poorly workers are paid in his country. ''The income is very low so it is dependent on tips,'' he said. ''Everyone is struggling to have English people because English people give tips. ''Zena is very good for my family. She usually helps me with money and clothes, now I don't buy clothes.'' A-list age gap relationships that have stood the test of time Kris Jenner & Corey Gamble - 25 years The Kardashian matriarch, 69, met her younger man, 44, at a mutual friend's 40th birthday party in Ibiza. They've been together since August 2014. Sam & Aaron Taylor-Johnson - 23 years The director, 57, and actor, 34, reportedly met at a film audition in 2009, and were married by 2012. The pair share two daughters and Sam has two children from a previous marriage. Rosie-Huntington-Whiteley & Jason Statham - 20 years The model, 37, started dating actor Jason, 57, in 2010. They were wed in 2016 and have since welcomed a son and a daughter together. Catherine Zeta-Jones & Michael Douglas - 25 years Catherine, 55, was introduced to Michael, 80, a film festival in 1996 and engaged three years later. Shortly after their engagement, the couple welcomed a son and married in 2000. Ebrima has always told Zena that he does not have any social media, but after her friend Lisa told her to do some digging, the Brit gran was shocked to find out that she had been lied to. After Tillie found his profile on Facebook, Zena said: ''What a cheek. I'm furious really. He said he never had one.'' The waiter also claimed he was single on his Facebook account, with Tillie and Zena then uncovering heaps of scantily-clad women on his online friends list. ''I feel sick, he's totally deceived me,'' Zena said, adding that her intention is to confront him about the lie during her trip to The Gambia, which will be the first time the two will reunite in eight months. ''[I'll say] 'You're supposed to be a Muslim and they're not supposed to do things like that'. ''He's always telling me 'Don't wear this, don't wear that, don't drink this, don't drink that'. ''Well I'm sure his w****s on his social media drink.,'' the nan was fuming. 3 The age-gap couple have also had heated arguments over his social media presence - which the resort water initially denied ever having Credit: tiktok/@discoveryplusuk Upon arriving at the West African country and being greeted at the airport by her younger lover, Zena was anything but impressed with the hotel they were staying in, calling it ''a f***ing building site''. She said: ''I sometimes feel a bit gutted that he hasn't got anything for me. ''At least there's one thing he can give me that's priceless. I just want to have one good night together before I have it out with him.'' But the following morning, the Gambian lover irritated Zena when he made her brew ''too milky'' and she attempted to get the answers she desperately needed. When she asked whether he had social media, Ebrima explained: ''It's been deleted for a long time. It's not there now.'' But then Zena said he was ''lying'' and showed him his Facebook profile, adding: ''You've put single. Are you single?'' He responded: ''It was a joke, I like joking.'' The 65-year-old then asked why he had not accepted her friend request and said: ''I don't really think it's that funny. ''I'm not going to waste all my time getting over here, buying you things and buying things for your family and then, lo and behold, you're playing me. ''I don't think it's a joke because I'm taking our relationship seriously. ''You're going single on here, you could get other women approaching you to join you as a friend, what would you do then?'' The 44-year-old said he was an ''entertainer'' and that he would often delete friend requests from women rather than accepting them. The argument soon turned heated, with Zena saying: ''This isn't a f***ing joke and I'm not happy about that.'' She added: ''Who does he think he is? He has trouble making conversation so I don't understand how he thinks he's an entertainer. ''He's lying straight to my face because I know he's got women on there because I've seen them.'' But Ebrima maintained he was joking by setting one up and said that he only used it for a month or so. In the preview for the fourth episode, Ebrima takes Zena to the house he has been building, but the Brit nan is far from impressed when she sees that her bedroom barely has four walls and no roof. ''Finances were the main issue,'' he said, while saying that he still needs approximately £2,000 to help with the cost, but Zena is reluctant to take out a loan to help out her new boyfriend. The brand-new series of 90 Day Fiancé UK is available to stream on Discovery+ now.
